It's all good, both Serbia and Kosova are in a much better place today than they were 11 years ago. These are some small post war hiccups , let's move on , let's enjoy freedom like we Kosovars finally do. Same thing goes for Serbians currently living in Kosovo. We will be negotiating soon, but today is still to early for many Kosovar families whos love ones are still missing.

There is a simple answer to your question they all need Serbia, but Serbia does not need them – that’s why!
The “ex-yugoslav repuplic” can scream as much as they like and look who is talking about “we are sick and tired of your useless complaining” - tell that to someone that cares. And no Serbs are not interested in joining anyone because we hold all the cards in our hands – Kosovo is going nowhere fast; the other so called new countries would not survive if not for EU funds, so who cares what you or anyone else thinks.

Do I understand right? He would like to attend the meeting, but can´t because he think he would loose anything?

You are your own obstacle! The obstacle is only in your minds.

Everyone knows, he will not recognize Kosovo, this doesn´t change if he attend them meeting.

But everyone outside expect the start of dialog. Start finally!!!!

Actually to Michael R. Spain is a pretty powerful member of the eu. And Serbias opinion does count on the matter of "kosova" attending because the eu doesn't want trouble and needs a neutral way to represent Kosovo I metohija which would be unmik-Kosovo

sigh... i dont understand why serbs are happy that eu officials would not attend... it is not an EU event...It was never meant to be. It is a balkan summit held by balkan countries.

I love how no eu officials are attending just because Serbia isn't. Kosovo I metohija isn't going to be attending the OFFICIAL eu conferences without being represented as Kosovo-UNMIK. Sorry "kosova" you can't go anywhere official without Serbian, Spanish, Greek, Romanian,Slovak, or Cyprus permission.

It is certainly interesting that one of the six countries you mentioned above is not even yet a candidate for the EU. We all know that to be Serbia. The remaining five countries have marginal membership in the EU. The relatively strongest member of this decidedly weak group, Greece, is in dire financial straits and is begging the EU to be bailed out. What does that say for the four weakest members: Spain, Slovakia, Romania and Cypress. Does anyone care?

Hahaha...I cannot stop laughing. When me and my neighbours have a small summer barbecue party in my backyard, this is more important than this gathering. I mean come on... The main country do not participate and the one who have anything to say about future decisions, EU, is not attending. What will they discuss?! Who has the most colourful tie or what?

Actually, the title of the article is not true.

Serbia could attend and still not recognise the udi. Don't be confused by ideas about 'diplomatic signals'. These little diplomatic conclusions about behaviour are a bit silly and are not really the main point.

As I have said before: this is not a big deal.

Serbia is too significant a player for the issues to go unaddressed. Meetings that have to be made with Serbia will just be made elsewhere - often outside of any publicised forum.

Tadic is right not to attend.

This is not (just) a 'diplomatic signal'; it is a practical shut-out which will serve to ensure the marginalisation of the udi.

Serbia will probably boycott many other meetings in the future.

The significant work will be done elsewhere. The effect of conferences involving a mis-represented Kosovo will therefore diminish. It won't be worth the bother.

Considering all the misfortunes and suffering that came from a country responsible for so much bloodshed all over the Yugoslavia it amazes me that Slovene and Croat officials went to such great lengths to bring Serbia on board.

The regional participants should send a clear message to Serbia: Your hands are full of blood, your victims on every ex-yugoslav repuplic are still screaming for justice..... and we are sick and tired of your useless complaining. You(Serbia) have lost whatever your nationlists desired so either join us in plotting a bright future for our children or stay isolated for as long as you desire.

Two "ground-zero" points are to be underlined after this little "diplomatic exercise" by Serbia:

-whatever it may be the result of future negotiations on the status of Serbia's southern province, Serbia must and will NEVER "recognize" Kosovo as an independent state. That will as well understand that we will not block Kosovo economical development and possible "prosperity" of their population though membership in any of economical and trade institutions and organizations which would possibly indicate the elements of "statehood" for Kosovo will be vigorously blocked.

- as per second: Serbia must not involve itself in the process of political negotiations at the present with the criminal figures like Thaci, Haradinaj or any other of Kosovo-Albanians notorious mafia and war-crime individuals who are suspects or potentially on our criminal "wanted" lists.
To be entitled to negotiate Kosovo Albanians must decide to depart themselves from their war-criminals and drug-mafia past and "representatives".

The decision of the Serbs Officials is understandable.
Why do the other countries officials would be sitting with the (fake) prime minister of a (fake) criminal country without any chance to produce any kind of richness in a legal way as kosovo is?
Maybe this summit will turn into a seminar about smuggling, weapons-drugs and organs trafficking and corruption with "prof." thaci as the main teacher.

“The President cannot sit in front of a name plate that would only state his name or state nothing at all,” Stefanović said, referring to the proposal for conference participators not to have any denotations of what countries they represent"

That proves outright that Serbia has never had or has any intention about any compromise solution. It is all about TERRITORY.

Serbia with its stance has only damaged itself in front of international community. It changed nothing when it comes to assert its authority/sovereignity over Kosovo/a. Absolutely nothing. What it has done making Kosovo more and more independent from than before.

What's the point of attending when the Spanish conference in Sarajevo will have a full house minus fake "Kosova"?

On the agenda today:

10:00 to 12:00 : Morning "Simon Says" practice.
12:00 to 14:00 : Lunch
14:00 to 17:00 : Afternoon "Simon Says" practice. This is to ensure all participants are efficient at following US instructions.

Anyway, it is becoming ever more obvious that this "Kosova" initiative has set the whole region back 10 years.

No it doesn't. Does Egypt recognise Western Sahara since they both participate in the African Union? No. Does Saudi Arabia recognise Israel since they both participate in the UN? No.

The decision of the Serbs Officials is understandable.
Why do the other countries officials would be sitting with the (fake) prime minister of a (fake) criminal country without any chance to produce any kind of richness in a legal way as kosovo is?
Maybe this summit will turn into a seminar about smuggling, weapons-drugs and organs trafficking and corruption with "prof." thaci as the main teacher.

sigh... i dont understand why serbs are happy that eu officials would not attend... it is not an EU event...It was never meant to be. It is a balkan summit held by balkan countries.

there are only 2 things serbia has truly succeeded in doing. It has been and continues the be the source of problems in the balkans.

Actually to Michael R. Spain is a pretty powerful member of the eu. And Serbias opinion does count on the matter of "kosova" attending because the eu doesn't want trouble and needs a neutral way to represent Kosovo I metohija which would be unmik-Kosovo
