Anyway a quasi-state is a state not a province. Who gave you the right to change the name and the status.
(MJ, 17 March 2010 14:39)
Quasi state is nothing. Is only "dust in the wind". Investors will afraid to invest in territory without final status. Province of REAL state - is much better territory for invest money.

its pretty simple, I dont understand how these kangaroos can make this so complicated. Serbia is asking for Legalities to be respected which would mean that Kosovo-UNMIK is indeed the name of this quasi-state.

So what choice does Serbia have? To do this within the framework of international law or to succumb to "might is right"?

Well, Serbia has chosen international law so if this conference fails (as expected), then we will certainly attend the conference organised by Spain as EU president in BiH. (Zoran, 16 March 2010 13:10)

Really? Serbia chose intl law? Is it what it chose in 1999 when it killed, cleansed and slaughtered thousands of K-Alb? You have a twisted idea of what intl law is. And yet you choose to obey to it when it is convinient for you and to ignore it when it fits your interest. Well it doesn't work that way.

Eventually Serbia might have some influence now as this is the first meeting and everyone is cautious on these moves just like they were towards the recognition of UDI which they eventually did accept.

But there will be other meetings, not organized by Spain or minority EU states which do not recognize Kosovo as ind. state, and Serbia's objections will be considered till one day one of them will get bored and continue without Serbia and the others will follow suit.It is only a matter of time.

Thaci will soon visit Estonia and slowly but surely the door is being open and the independence reality will be accepted by all nations.

Gojko

Tadic and Serbia are recognizing Kosovo if they are a prt of "unmik" or without the unmik label. Is vojvodina going to the meeting? Serbia should insist that Kosovo not be allowed at all regardless of their status.

'attend of lock itself out of the world'. Now that is the richest thing i've read in a while. this tiny, bottomless useless european peninsula of the balkans makes not the world. the importance of this area is only, and has only every been as a trading crossroads. however nowadays trading can be done by air, or sea for an acceptable markup. serbia choosing to attend or not attend will be a large issue for the region, but not the world, or europe for that matter.

".. would not be good if Serbia was absent from such dialogues. Still, Belgrade’s position that it must not recognize independence of Kosovo either explicitly or implicitly must be understood,” Kovačević stressed."

Why? You fail to give the reason why is this a MUST Mr. Kovacevic. Frankly the 22 members of EU could give a damn about that so there is no "MUST" to them as they wouldn't have recognized in the first place if that was the case. Now the vast majority of the region have recognized also, so there is no "MUST" for them either, otherwise they would not have recognized in the first place. So where does this "MUST" come from. At the end of the day its all about choice. You are given a situation and each makes a choice. So there is no obligation for anyone, there is no phrases such as "MUST". One chooses what to do. In this case you choose whether to attend or not. Its not a "MUST" a attend and its definitely not a "MUST UNDERSTAND" case. They can choose to understand but its all up to them.

Let's cover the facts:

1. Representatives of Kosovo are going as "President" and "Prime Minister", not as "UNMIK-Kosovo".

2. The conference will go on, with or without Kosovo and Serbia.

3. Serbia will not be attending because Kosovo will be represented as an equal Balkan State.

4. Kosovo will be going, and Serbia will not be attending.

5. Serbia is isolating itself.

"Neither position that Kosovo is absolutely unrecognized, because many states have recognized it, nor that Kosovo is a completely sovereign country can be sustained,” he explained.

Exactly that. And that's why Tadic insists that Kosovo should be represented as UNMIK-Kosovo, which is already a compromise. Some hardcore Serb posters could argue that Kosovo cannot participate at all, because it's a part of Serbia.

Wrong. Article “the” has nothing to do with tenses; it is simply used to refer to specific or particular nouns.
(pz, 16 March 2010 15:45)

do you know the difference between a participle and a verb? participles often derive from verbs, but share grammatical properties with adjectives.

look at the following:

(the) "UN governed Serbian province of Kosovo"

as opposed to

"UN governed the Serbian province of Kosovo"

the former is a noun phrase and the latter is a complete sentence. now, as a proper expert on the grammar of english you should be able to tell which role each word plays in both cases, but you can't deny that inserting the article in a particular place actually changes the meaning of what was written?

MJ

Of course its easy to accept when someone else has their territory taken away from them. I could easily accept that RS becomes independent and then tell the federation of croats and bosnjaks to accept it and move on. And to tell albanians that Northern Epirus becomes independent and returns to Greece. Serbia is being bullied. Everyone is trying to have their way with Serbia and then demand we accept it. Wrong. Article “the” has nothing to do with tenses; it is simply used to refer to specific or particular nouns.
The past tense is used to talk about actions that happened at a specific time in the past. You form the simple past of a verb by adding –ed or d onto the end of a regular verb, while this rule does not apply to irregular verbs.

Let's face it, this whole conference on Western Balkans is meant to push Kosovo's "independence" down Serbia's throat. Of course if Serbia does not attend, the organisers will cancel it. They may as well just send the money directly to Kosovo, as "aid".

But it is crucial for the success of the planned conference in Slovenia if the hosts respect UNSC Resolution 1244.

i.e. Kosovo-UNMIK

its pretty simple, I dont understand how these kangaroos can make this so complicated. Serbia is asking for Legalities to be respected which would mean that Kosovo-UNMIK is indeed the name of this quasi-state.

We will checking in future who is more important for EU - Serbia, the biggest Western Balkan state, or "black hole" pseudoindependent Kosovo.

The bottom line is that; either Serbia attends the meeting or decideds to lock itself out of this world. Anyway, who cares if they attend or not. PM Thac/qi will be there and most certanly he will not represent UNMIK, but KOSOVA.
(Kosova-USA)

Kosova? Wheres is this place,, oo you meant the NATO occupied land of Kosovo, which is now Kosovo-UNMIK according to ALL legal documents ... :)

Everyone agrees with this?
(Ron, 16 March 2010 13:17)
If everyone agreed with that there would be no dilemna, no article and no comments.

Where did you get the perception of "black hole" Kosovo.
(Milan, 16 March 2010 22:00)

Have you turned to the Crime & Corruption, Economic crisis in Serbia, and War Crimes tabs on the right of this very website?
Do you know that the prisons in Serbia are filled three times their capacity?
Saric didn't run his business in Kosovo. The King of Balkans for human trafficking is Serbian just arrested. Mladic is roaming free in Serbia. Belgrade was blasted just yesterday. How many more people got killed because of crime related vendettas in Serbia?

Tell this to the "Snake" in Pristina and to its supporters like Slovenia. It's Kosovo-UNMIK or No Show of Serbia.

Respect UN Resolution 1244!!
(PRO-SERBIA, 16 March 2010 13:38)

No show of Serbia would be just fine, thank you.

Wait a minute, I thought Kosovo Metohija was the name indeed.
Anyway a quasi-state is a state not a province. Who gave you the right to change the name and the status.

".. would not be good if Serbia was absent from such dialogues.

(MJ, 17 March 2010 14:39)
Quasi state is nothing. Is only "dust in the wind". Investors will afraid to invest in territory without final status. Province of REAL state - is much better territory for invest money.
