Balkan donkey, and "world's priciest cheese"

A nature reserve north of Belgrade is home to a herd of some 100 Balkan donkeys, while their milk is used to make "the world's most expensive cheese".

Hmmm, sounds like it will go well with the buried fungus (truffles) that pigs find in France and a side of Beluga Caviar. In other words, why not? Crazier stuff is out there!

I've been there a few times. Its a really nice place. They have heaps of animals. 1000EUR is a little pricey, but there are always people who are willing to throw money around.

Good luck to them

Am I the only one to realise that his buisness plan is flawed; 25 lites to make a kilo, 40 euros for each litre, 1000 euros to produce, and its being sold for 1000 euros per kilo, that means no profit...

They should be offering beauty treatments with daily bath in the milk - 25 liters per bath would suffice. Same amount of milk needed for 1kg. of cheese. (Think of recicling!)

Ataman, that liver thing of yours... Remember Slovenian "Merkator"? Well, they usually have lamb liver (raw) nicely wraped in maramica, ready for short roasting, charcoal grilling even better. And if you talk to the nice Fleischmeister he'll be happy to prepare for you all parts needed for jagnjeca sarmica with instructions for preparation. You don't have to invite him for the lunch. A big, happy smile will make him happy, too.

Now I hear this I wonder if there's anything else left to make money of, never thought that donkey milk was useful let alone expensive, does anybody here tasted the cheese? I love cheese and I would like to know if it taste good.

Thanks for showing up and I am not giving up that liver thing... maybe you can answer it.

Srek is definitely not Sreck, from erschrecken in german (to be scared). If Fiona is milking the beast then the productivity will be better and the price should then go down....
As to the liver, boiling it must be awfull...., just grilled the dam think, add some soya sauce, ginger and herbs and you'll be delighted and if your wife refuses to do so, then.... your choice :))

Don't be so erschrekt, a few ml of milk per day and a few kicked to the milker is worth that price :))

It's probably Fiona who is milking anyway. Wonder, what Shreck with kids doing... cyber-ogring on B92?

Milking a white-muzzled donkey is not a laughing matter.

Yes, besides the voice of the talking donkey in Shrek does belong to Eddie Murphy, so there is a gender problem. I put "c" before the "k" by mistake in my previous posts, it's "Shrek", not "Shreck" (at least in movie, otherwise "Schreck" of course).

Asses may be plentiful in the Balkans, but they certainly don't come cheap. Interpret it how you will.

But as long as it doesn't drive up the price of burek sa sirom, I'm ok with that.

And yes, I got my Ataman, village-bey AND Swiss fix :)

You’d need a couple of milking jugs, a firm grip on you hands,, and above all, have to pretend you are a five legged donkey to approach the bleeding thing.

Are they talking donkeys?
If I look at the price tag... ich bin erSHRECKt!

EUR 40 for the liter of that milk? Well elaborated idea Mr. Simić, must admit.

Or better : I would not call it monkey-business, I would call it donkey-business.
