"As for selling MALÉV to Russians: this decision was made because of EU requirement that the governments should not be involved in keeping majority in key infrastructure elements like airlines, railways, etc. "

Ataman, in Romania Tarom and CFR are state owned and they're not doing better themselves, but nobody said they have to be privatised because of EU. Actually, most people say they should be, cause the state is such a bad manager (i.e. private interests of the politicians in the rulling parties).
We were served with the BS of privatisation of public utilities.
So, to begin with, my guess is that you should look behind the interest of the Hu gov. that privatised Malev in the first place.

It's incredible to see how many mistakes have been made in the last years in Hungary by the leftist governament...
This one is just another one !

That government has precisely as much to do with the "left" as their opponents to "conservative" ideas. Sadly, the "alternative" ( = Jobbik ) are an other kind of losers. Or maybe not, they actually are "clever": why not use the "power" of enraged lemmings and preach about Gypsy and Jewish danger and Great Hungary... all that just to get more money as a party.

As for selling MALÉV to Russians: this decision was made because of EU requirement that the governments should not be involved in keeping majority in key infrastructure elements like airlines, railways, etc.

Genial decision - it was not a single transportation company in human history which made profits long-term. Leaders of lesser importance than EU bureaucrats (like Persian kings Cyrus, Chosrow, emperors like Khublai Khan and so on) knew that, but EU knows better.

Here you go - no private company was willing to pay MALÉV as much as Mr. Abramovic from Russia a while ago. And now Mr. Abramovic decided, screw MALÉV, he has no interest in that anymore, he has fun with other things, run out of spare change in his wallet or maybe has an other (one more) girlfriend. Bad luck.

IMO - not he is to blame. Why would an eccentric billionaire play the role of Cyrus the Great, Chosrow II or Katharine II? He is not interested into investing in infrastructure long-term and besides, what has Abramovic to do with Hungary? At the moment the economic situation is a bit worse or an other girl got his attention: bye-bye MALÉV.

It's stupid EU regulation to blame and boneheads in Budapest and Bruxelles. They spanked themself...
