Its just possible guys that Nikolic and company did not want to be in an abnormal party run by diktat of one leader. Can you begin to understand what it would mean to have principles, but to see that constantly and without question one always must refer to the divine leader. That leader has his favourites (quite often giving him wrong information) and is persuing policies from the 1990's.

That leader has little real idea of how things have changed in Serbia. And things have changed, not a great deal, but they have. Using a hardline nationalist populist message is not going to get you elected. As things (life, people) have changed so must SRS.

Nikolic tried this from inside, but Seselj prevented it at every turn. Nikolic presided over the party when it popularity that Seselj could have only dreamed of.

Yes SNS have decided on a course to power. All responsible parties (if such a thing exists) desire to get into power because they believe they can do something to improve the country.

Irresponsible parties (such as SRS and to an extent DSS) want to oppose - because they don't really want the responsiblitiy of government.

How else can you explain SRS snatching defeat from potential victory by letting Nikolic go?

The parties of the extreme right always had self destructive policies. Now they are well out of power, they can only destroy themselves, and not the country.

Seselj returning will not mean he will be in office. It will ensure that the moderate right in Serbia remain in opposition for another decade.

If that is what you want, good luck to you.

@Nikola

I think argumentation in article bellow was clear.
If I need to vote for pro-EU party then Tadic DS is there and they've been there ever since.
For a God what sake, I would look for my fictive EU future with "Progressives". They just have spinned not only 360 degrees, but 360 million degrees from their founder Šešelj and only following one bare reason: to have themselves staying on political power.
They have none of political platform and agenda, nothing of political ideology, but they represent one bitter, untalented, useless, ego-driven bunch blind in their wish to get on power. That's more then dangerous base to allow anyone to give them their legitimate votes.

What do they have to offer fundamentally different on hypothetical Serbia's road to EU then DS? Nobody knows that and most pathetically they themselves not too.
If I need a President to bring Serbia to EU then Tadic is doing his job well as it can be done in international political circumstances and Nikolić is just sad alternative in intellectual and charismatic way and particularly for international scene.
If I need pro-EU FM to fight our case I sure go for Harvard kid then for, God forbid, Vučić and his "Balkan retarded style of argumentations". Do I care for his personal trip was he a British spy or not or whatever, btw? With him as possible FM we are lost and we are lost very big time.

Šešelj is coming and he is coming soon. After his right political liquidation of Nikolić and Vučić (and why?...because nobody and ultimately does not like traitors), if he decides to play the role of semi-socialist populist with anti-EU agenda he is having great chance to become again second largest party.
Bunch of useless wingers called "Progressives" are no option for legitimate vote.
Either one or another?
Šešelj or Tadić?
On the other side, if Šešelj, after his long unjust prison sentence, now decide to be only crasy loony then there is only Tadić left...how good or bad it may sound.
Dear countryman, make no mistakes with "progressive" waste.
They are alternative for nothing.

Vote Progessive! Napred Srbijo
(Nikola, 26 February 2010 18:45)
Napred Srbijo, out of your mouth into God’s ear. However, I have a feeling that this is only manipulation to create the same political scenario as in the west – two parties constantly in power but nothing changes. Have a look at the US; only two parties for the last 220 years, but it has become even more insidious in the last 50 years where there is no noticeable difference.
You see Nikolic wanted to transform SRP similar to the Socialists and grab some of the gravy being offered by the west to the current toadies in power. He was getting tired of living off scraps and wants room at the tough with the rest. What gave him away was when asked the question “would you bring the people onto the streets if Mladic was arrested?” His answer was a simple No!
Seselj seems to be a thorn in all sides; I don’t live in Serbia and at times it’s difficult to sense what is going on, but every piece of information I get points to a fear of Seselj on a big scale. However, the other question is will they free Seselj at all? He is a big worry for the US/EU – who knows they might slip a little medicine just like did to Milosevic.
If history is right, and it usually does repeat itself, then Serbia you’re in real trouble; more borrowings until the IMF takes over and really makes you slaves in a very, very small Serbia and this is no exaggeration.

I have generally agreed with your comments on b92. However you are very delusional if you believe Seselj is not the past and Nikolic and Vucic are not the future.

What are you basing your theories of Seselj coming back and taking Progressive votes from? Why would voters do that? Seseljs supporters vote for the SRS today. Remember, that is why Nikolic left the SRS, because it was still clearly Seseljs party, and voters know that.

The SRS will be a party of extremism in Serbia. Capitalizing on voter apathy and getting a few more votes than they actually deserved when the economy is in the dumps. This usually happens throughout Europe when extremist parties preach populism. However none of them are very effective and just the SRS, will never join government again.

It would be ultimate for the image of Serbia that this seriously morally...challenged figure of Ilić get advised to remove himself from the political scene.

And the Šešelj's "come back" will be one ultimate show for the public to watch...looking forward.
Of course his first legitimate targets will be "Judas" figures of Nikolić and Vučić. He will dismental them and will not be stopping before he sees them politically burried.
Consequently collateral winner will be Tadic DS- Democratic Party as per fact that Šešelj will win back min half of the ex-supporters from so called Progressive's.
Starting with 15%, Šešelj will rise to 25% or more of the vote and all to the account of Nikolić and Vučić.

Consequently at least for the Serbian electorate there will be one clear anti-EU alternative.
With Tadic DS we are more less clear what to expect: conditioned bumpy road direction EU with not granted success and not clear vision with what they are ready to gamble in order to reach EU goal and concerning Serbia's basic national interests.
After political "salto mortale" by Nikolić and Vućić man does not have a slightest idea what is in their agenda and what they are standing for, apart of their own desparate wish to get on the power once and finnaly. That is exactely the worst posible "drive" from polititians to expect so Serbian electorate should be careful not to support this despareate bunch. Once Juda always Juda: only that now they may get in chance to sell Serbia's basic interests for the glory of their short stay on power.

Anyhow don't think that will happen.Šešelj will finally bring clearance in Serbian political scene and that's what we need: pro-EU parties and anti-EU parties.

"Progressive's" somewhere in the middle for the short time before they go under the census. They are certanly the worst option to choose, with their pall Ilic.
Serbians instead can do much better then "progress""with them.

Don't think that Šešelj will need anyone of Ilić style political t-rexes.

He can sure do his own "thing": enough of charisma and 7 years of principle fight with that Kangaroo Court in Hague will bring him minimum 15% of electoral vote if not more.
Kinda predicting his cooperation and semi-coalition with DSS.
If he decide not to be too populistic I may see my vote there.

Hmm a shot across Kostunica's bows to let him know that if he thinks of forming an election coalition with SRS, that Ilic will not stand for it...

But I bet that Ilic would quite happily enjoy a drink with Seselj. They are a similar mentality.
