“Slowing down EU enlargement is wrong”

It would be a mistake to slow down EU's enlargement to the Western Balkans, said President Boris Tadić, during his visit to Berlin.

"Get judges that cast verdicts in one month. Thats Europe!"
petervandergaast

You mean judges like the ones in the Hague who have kept Seselj for over 2 years without a verdict. While at the same time the Hague released the albanian warcriminal Ramus Haradinaj in a matter of months. You mean that Europe! No one is forcing you to accept Serbia into the European union. I'm a Serb living in Sweden but I'm against the EU. The policies of the EU have destroyed the great societies we once had. Muslims are taking over, the crime rate is horrendeous, no jobs etc. I'm not saying that Serbia is better but look at our resent past, sanctions, war, minorities trying to steal our territory. However, we will survive even without the EU. No one would be happier if Serbia never joined the EU and NATO, than me.

Personally I like all Balkan states to join the EU. Mind that Kosovo is not a state!

But the reality is that it will take a lot of years before all Balkan countries are part of the European Union.

A lot of people in the West are sick of paying for poor, corrupt, instable countries.

But I hope you all will join eventually!

Michael C , who doesnt dare to mention his own name makes fun of my name "krasnici" as if I am an Albanian. I am not I am Dutch and I am one of the very few people pleading the Serbian cause. You ask me if Europe needs Serbia. Yes Europe needs each country that can keep its own trousers up & Respects citizens rights enshrined in the Treaty of Lisbon. A great good. For that Serbia needs the rule of law to implement these obligations. Look at the facebook site Sacuvajmo Beogradske Platane, what happened today.
Instead of talking policeagression and tycoons cutting trees for al sorts of businesses. Lending money from IMF without any tycoon paying taxes, and the new rulers stealing the public goods. Then you hope joining Europe to ask the Germans for money in the future? Make sure you get decent government, we have one Greece one Bulgaria and one Romania. A Croatia, Serbia, Albania fighting and stealing amomg each other nobody wants any more. It can't work. Stop bullying your own people. Get judges that cast verdicts in one month. Thats Europe!

Tadic and the Serbian Government are high if they truly believe they will join the EU without recognizing Kosovo Independence. That is all I have to say about that.

"We do'nt need that in Europe any more."
Peter van der Gaast

By saying you don't need them anymore, does that mean you needed them at one point?
By the way, you seem to have a different opinion then the majority of europeans. No country has critisized Serbias legal system, heck even Croatia has confidence in it. Serbia has white schengen and everyone, especially the USA, are begging Serbia to join NATO. Not to mention the extended autonomy given to Vojvodina and albanians in Presevo.
So, Peter van der Krasniqi, try and fool someone else.

Looks like to me that President of the Bundestag Norbert Lammert has been quite reserved concerning Serbia's EU aspiration.

How will Mr. Tadic manage to chew this fact for the Serbian public...is to be seen. Reading this B92 article it is everything but reassuring.

Man would ask then: why hassle? Try looking for alternatives.
Just dump T.I.N.A : There Is No Alternative (to EU).
Real answer is T.A.T.A : There Are Thousands Alternatives.

Starting with it,starting now and being sure to stop selling out our basic national interests particularly in return for nothing as it was the case till now due to the "skillfulness" of our political establishment.

After what Greece, Bulgaria and Romania did t EU, get ready to wait for 10 years, or forever.

Simply put the Balkan mentality doesn't belong in EU. Greece has been leeching of EU for 30 years, Poland is already booming and get less than GReece from EU, despite having 3-4 times more people and having been in EU for a few years!!!

And then Does Tadic's words imply that Romania and Bulgaria must not be part of EU ?
(luigi, 26 February 2010 13:09)

Of course not. The problem is that the magic "EU Integration" seem to be the indicator of the progress. The gap between all these countries are and where they should be or where the population does expect them to be is very big. Unfortunately the only strategy the most progressive forces can produce is the endless repeating of "EU Integration" phrase. What the not-so-progressive ones can is better not to mention at all.

"EU Integration" has some benefits, probably the most serious ones is the access to certain founds to rebuild the ancient infrastructure.

Unfortunately all the involved countries are sunk into corruption and the abuse of EU-sponsored monies is rampant. In most of these EU members the (ex)communist nomenclatura cleverly turned around and managed to stay at the top. The record is dismal so I do not expect any miracle in future members.

"EU Integration" has some few negative side-effects and unlike the benefits, these are being felt strongly by the population.

What is sad in Serbia: it is one of the very few involved countries where the government largely has no or little connection to the criminal past. Beats me, what is going on there - probably lack of professionalism? Naivity?

These words could be said by a Croatian or Makedonian president as far as their countries are waiting from many years to join EU but Serbia...
Not SAA neither Candidate status are in vigour so !!!

Slowing down European accession would be a mistake says the President, but slowing down could also be a consequence of internal Serbian failure to comply with Human rights and other European regulations. The way how local tycoons can bully their population cutting trees not talking but using policeforce etc. Serbia has now leaders with other political names but they do'nt behave any better than Milosevic. We do'nt need that in Europe any more.
