So using your logic then If Kosovo rejoined Serbia, that would seal the fate of Serbia never joining the EU. We know that what jobs that have opened up in Kosovo since the Milosevic closed everything down would vanish. We also know that Serbia has no plans to ever develop an economy for the Albanian population, or they might stay.

How many years has past since 1999? I’m most interested to know where Opal has opened its factory or perhaps Ford, or maybe Microsoft, BMW, Mercedes Benz, Allianz……hmmmmm???? I really am curious.
So you think Serbia will not develop Kosovo, then why the hell will the west when there is nothing to develop – it was a financial sink hole during the old Yugoslavia and you guys think that the west is that stupid to throw good money after bad. Wake up and smell the roses and stop trying to defend the indefensible!
The west will spent only the minimum in Kosovo to control the population and little else. Every now and then they will put on a show like “integrating the north” for the Albanians and when the situation heats up they’ll disappear until the next show time as at Universal Studios or Warner Bros.

Kosovo is a PROVINCE. Only states can join EU!

And also: you really think a 'country' with 50 % unemployment can join EU? Get real! We in Western Europe want to pay less to EU. Not more!

"This conflicts with the following piece on Kosovo and the EU...

"The head of the FPO delegation to the European Parliament Andreas Melzer said that “Kosovo [is] far from being an independent and functional country” and instead Kosovo is “a de facto international protectorate which is a burden to the international community and especially the EU”."

Ouch.
(Jason, 20 February 2010 21:14)"

You don't recognize the initials? (FPO = Freiheitliche Partei Österreichs = Austrian Freedom Party) Maybe the name of its founder Jorg Haider - extreme rightist, if not a neo-Nazi - is more familiar? When he entered a coalition government in Austria, other governments refused to recognize it.

I'd only be worried if FPO members started praising Kosovo.

Thats what we wanted to hear Ashton, thank you!

Pejoni - ms Ashton can tell You more similar words - but this words have any power, becouse for EU as international organisation - Kosovo is not "independent", becouse some of their members dont recognized illegal UDI.

The region belongs to Europe, Kosovo, like Serbia too; but not this government.

Why did the meeeting takes so long time? For small talk? No! Thaci gots clear words and tasks for a European perspective.

For diplomatic reason the official statement sounds in a better way.

As things are going it looks like Kosovo will join EU before Serbia.

Ashton: Kosovo’s future in EU

-- Yes, but under who's auspices? The current path leads to nowhere as 5 states refuse to recognize its sovereignty, so we can all but forget about any SAA being signed. Second, the sweet talk Ashton gave Hash is no different from the pied-piper talk every SE European government hears "(Insert country or protectorate) has a European future". But there seems to be no forward movement for Bosnia, FYROM, or Kosovo in the absence of real negotiations between contesting members - negotiations which run counter to what those imposing the current untenable conditions want. Without this, Kosovo can only get into the EU if it is a virtual mandate of the EU. Officials can prolong the drive as long as they want, but the road ultimately ends in a cul-de-sac.

exactly that's all she was trying to do is to make you happy but in the end very sad

Kosovo before the EU???? Read the accension criteria first. Serbia already has an SAA. Kosovo doesn't have recognition from five EU countries. Be realistic in your comments.

If the "future"" is to be defined like one abstract category, something like the next stage in development of Earth surface or the last moment in the expansion of the Galaxies, then the Kosovo future is in EU indeed.
