“Serbia in EU by 2018”

thank you. Serbia is Europe and vice versa. Any study of European history puts Serbia at the forefront of European culture and history. There is no real Europe without Serbia.

I think that Serbia will probably begin accession negotiations for membership in 2012.

The negotiations will probably be finished in late 2016. This means that Serbia could sign the Accession Treaty in 2017.

The Accession Treaty will have to be ratified by the parliaments of the EU Member States during the course of 2017 and 2018.

This means that Serbia could join the EU on
1 January 2019.

I would change the title of the article to "Serbia in EU in 2019"

Until then, Serbia must play the EU game until the dominoes finally tumble.

There is that IF again.
Keep giving us all these promisses with ifs attached to them and we will surely keep electing Tadic and towing the western line.

How long are Serbs going to believe all this? Isn't it time for them to get something concrete before we give any more concessions?

OK, that could be true. But Hungary is in EU since 2004 and after my return from US in 2008 I did not see a single benefit of that EU thing. And with all disrespect to many things we did find in the US being bizarre... EU is pretty pathetic compared with America. The only country in Europe which has a potential comparable to America begins with the "R" letter, I am sorry, with "Р" in the native script. And I was speaking very mildly. In any case I regard myself more-less competent in that question because I happen to know both "A" and "R"... kind of. Probably more, than you ever can imagine.

EU is a nice place for vacation or to retire tough. Provided, you have your private (401K) and not private (S.Security) US pension. But don't worry, around 3019 EU may catch up with America and Russia. ;-)

By reffering to European culture and history you were thinking most likely about Italy. While Italy florished during the renaissance the whole Balkans up to and including most of Hungary was a black hole under Turkish occupation. Nothing could florish in that black hole.

By reffering to European culture and history you were thinking most likely about Italy. While Italy florished during the renaissance the whole Balkans up to and including most of Hungary was a black hole under Turkish occupation. Nothing could florish in that black hole.
