The content of almost all the comments posted here clearly show that Slobodan Milosevic had done his work for Serb nationalist authoritarian ideas very well.

Stipe Mesic, once again, is right in his remarks. Bosnia, differently from the federal, multi-republican Yugoslavia, was always a unitary state were people from all religions lived side by side for centuries. RS is a gerrymandered aberration created by Milosevic and his clique (Ratko Mladic, Radovan Karadzic, Zeljiko Arkan Raznatovic and Vojslav Seselj) between 1992-1995 and consolidated into that appeasing piece called the Dayton Agreement.

And anyway, nowadays Croatia is a member of NATO (an attack against one country is an attack against all). Serbia is not.

Mesic is at it again threatening to use the mighty Croat army to bring the Serbs to heel. Poor old man who thinks that Croatia really matters in the big scheme of European politics. Unfortunately Croatia suffers from a “small country” syndrome, constantly trying to prove it can run with the big boys.

As the old saying goes “there is no fool like an old fool”. Isn’t it always the way? Those that can, do, while those that can’t talk about and this guy just can’t shut his trap.

The Capitan talks about preparing the Croat army to take the land outside Brcko. Just how is he going to do this without anyone noticing is interesting or maybe he has a portal that moves his army through time and space. However, first he has to overcome his budget shortfalls then once that’s resolved move on to this project.

You see late last year the EU told, not asked, but told Croatia to slash its budget because the EU is having financial difficulties and the aid is being reduced. It’s interesting to note that the EU’s aid to RS is certainly not being slashed for fear of Dodik called the real referendum. You might have also noticed that Dodik has been making statements that there is no referendum about breaking away from Bosnia. It not out of fear but it seems that the US/EU have thrown a pile of cash at RS on top of its normal aid.

Now this austerity measure in Croatia involves, amongst other things, the Croat armed forces. The equipment they were to purchase, with EU money, has all been cancelled – armoured personnel carriers, light arms, automatic assault rifles, war planes etc. In addition to make ends meet the Croatian Defence Ministry decided to close numerous military bases over the winter period i.e starting December 2009 to end of February 2010, because they could not feed nor pay for fuel to keep the barracks warm. So these soldiers were given leave to go home for that period.

Now around March you can expect to have an army with some corn bread in their nap sacks ready for the invasion of RS.

BIG DEAL.

I really cannot understand why Mesic insists of making a fool of himself when he doesn't count for anything any more. Not much time left and here he is talking about war. Josipovic is not of the same opinion and that's the only thing that matters now.

Mesic, please go quietly.

RE: Mesic comments are perplexing

On the one hand, Stipe Mesic was directly responsible for helping destroy Yugoslavia more so than any other politican at the time.

On the other hand, he wants to maintain "Mini Yugoslavia" or Bosnia & Herzegovina?

Bosnia and Herzegovina needs to be peacefully split up.

Its clear that recent memories are too strong and it's better not to risk another conflict.

Either way Dodik will be stupid enough and take the bait. Boris will be in the Serbian background urging him on and then pretending hes not. Serbians have a hard time as usual avoiding disaster for them selfs they always have to push it over the limit.

So it was okay for Croatia to declare independence from honorable Yugoslavia, yet Republika Srpska has to be forced to stay in Bosnia.

He's just scared of Serbian territories surrounding Croatia and attacking it in a future war.

INDEPENDENCE FOR THE SERB REPUBLIC!

Stepping down and not a moment too soon. This is the heart of problems surrounding the former Yugoslav states, and hopefully a new era of cooperation between Serbia and Croatia may exist. I'd say the first round of business is the dismantlement of Bosnia.

The old, worn-out needle, got stuck in the same old track. Never was sharp enough, even when it was new, to move smoothly to another one.
Mesic won't shut up, no, not him: being unhappy with his unaccomplished destruction desires, he will desperately continue throwing around his useless, blood thirsty "what-I- would - do" opinions and advises hoping for reaching some lunatics of the same kind but in power to implement his ideas. Will he succeed? He hopes so. Especially if he read the recent (Ben, January 19) promising posting on this site: "Mr. president Mesic, you have the support of Eight million Albanians.God bless you and Croatian people1"

As for Mesic and afterlife: that fire-proof is certainly a major challenge he needs to worry about, not the military intervention in Srpska.

I am sick to death of your smart remarks about the ustase, if it wasn't for what you call Ustase your beloved Slavonia would be no more.
