"It will be very humiliating for the Greeks and will punish the Greek people with mass unemployment and savage public spending cuts unprecedented in their history."
(Leonidas, 7 February 2010 18:25)

Oh no, no more 5 hours a day siestas in Greece, while being paid by the government for drinking coffee. It was one of the main tourist attractions of Greece too, large numbers of greek men drinking frappe' in bars :). It is a cultural conflict if you ask me; Northern-European-like way of life, German way of working vs. Southern-European-like way of life, Balkan and southern Italian way of working, of being lazy actually, because the word "working" might be misleading. Do you know what word they use for "work" in Sicily? "travaglio", which in the rest of Italy means "suffering like a woman giving birth to a child".
The European north is winning for now, but the stubbornness of the south and their attachment to coffee drinking and gossiping in the bars should not be underestimated.
Finally, to get back in the topic of the article, nothing new from the western front.

"Same like Northern Cyprus - this is no problem for EU. Cyprus is EU member, and pseudoindependent Northern Cyprus - is "black hole". Same will be with Serbia and Kosovo - Serbia will be EU member, and Kosovo - european "black hole".
(Milan, 7 February 2010 17:05)"

Don't think so. Cyprus has been a big problem for the EU, one they don't plan on repeating. Štefan Füle (a Czech) said at his parliamentary hearing to become the new Enlargement Commissioner that the Kosovo issue remains a significant hurdle for Serbia and "in light of previous experience (= Cyprus) he will not push the EU to admit accession candidates with unresolved territorial disputes."

Once burned, twice shy, as they say.

Not likely Milan. Your comparison is way fo mark. The most powerfull countries of this planet earth have embassies in Kosova/o, which I can't say the same for northern Cyprus. There are embassies in Greek Cyprus, just like in Greece and the same as in Belgarde and Pristina. I hope you know what I mean.
(Kosova-USA, 7 February 2010 19:07)

No my friend. Embassies of some states located in Priština is any argument for joining EU. EU as organization - don't recognized Kosovo's pseudoindependence - same like don't recognized Northern Cyprus pseudoindependence. From other hand - Republic of Serbia have much, much more chances to join EU (with or without Kosovo). If Serbia will join EU without Kosovo (like Cyprus - without Northern Cyprus) - will be no chance to integrate Kosovo with EU.

P.S. Some of "The most powerfull countries of this planet earth" - don't recognized this illegal state, so You can't find embassies of these powerful countries in Priština. Only USA (UK, France or Germany - are political dwarfs compared to China or Russia - real powerfull states).

As long as Serbia does not recognize Kosovo, Kosovo will always be a black hole in europe. It will never get into the un nor the eu, not even in HATO. It will remain a failed experiment while Serbia gets into the eu. Why Serbs want to get into the eu has always been a mystery to me. Right now, Serbia can trade with any country in the world instead of being limited to the countries that the america (excuse me, eu) favors. It seems that european politicians always wanted Kosovo to be a jail to contain the albanians instead of letting them roam europe under a Serbian passport. This is why they are bribing the Tadic government. And the K-albos are too blind and dumb to see this while their leaders take the bribes too.

Tomorrow Vuk will go on TV say I told you Kosovo is no issue. Yes it is not since they have different path, i dont here Sebs any longer talking about mighty Greece saving Kosovo i bet 2Billion in bonds will buy a recognition now and say 500Mill in 6 months when no bail out from EU and it turns to IMF :).

Germany, France, UK are the leaders of this Union and the rest are just sheep along for the ride. So please get ready for more recognitions. Not saying today but very soon.
(Allez, 7 February 2010 16:31

In fact Greece will be better
off getting out of the eurozone now.The same thing happened with the UK when it came out of the ERM euro's predecessor 20 years ago.

As soon as Greeks are out of the euro they could restore competitiveness by reducing interest rates and lowering the value of their currency.

However, the Greeks ,Spanish and Portugese will be bailed out because there is too much at stake for the Brussels machine. If those countries pull out of the eurozone their cherished Lisbon treaty will die.So they will do anything in their power to keep those countries within the block.

The caveat for Greece to remain in eurozone will be to hand over its economic policy to Brussels. That means the country becoming EU
protectorate. It will be very humiliating for the Greeks and will punish the Greek people with mass unemployment and savage public spending cuts unprecedented in their history.

We'll learn in the coming months whether can continue in present form or fail.My guess is it will fail because the EU is totally detached from democracy and its people.

BTW Not even $50billion will buy kosovo's recognition.

Why haven't these more recognitions happened yet? Why are your "powerful friends" resorting to recognitions by irrelevant scattered pacific island nations that cannot be located on a map.

Pathetic, remember Hashish Thachi and his 100 instant recognitions, what happened? He was probably high that day.

'Chief of the European Commission delegation in Serbia, Vincent Degert, said that Kosovo would not be a problem in Serbia’s EU membership negotiations.'

This is a lie.

Kosovo has been used as a sinister tool to manipulate Belgrade at every stage of negotiation with Brussels.

I do know that the EU's denigration of and disrespect for International Law will return to haunt it.

I'm sure now that many officials in Brussels are asking themselves;'what was it all for'? - 'why did we go along with this fiasco'?

Serbia MIGHT have lost KiM but the EU has definitely lost a hell of a lot more.
