"Kosovo among EU priorities"

There are differences over recognition but there is agreement on the substantial program of help that EU is putting in place in Kosovo, says Catherine Ashton.

"It's not called compromise when Serbia gets its way. As for peace and stability, is already achieved. Don't you read the comments from your beloved leaders? They will do nothing outside diplomatic efforts, not that I can't blame them since they have no power either way. Or are you suggesting that those mere thousands or so families in the K-North will able to overturn the reality to Serbia's favor? It strikes as very childish to me.

And its compromise to you when Serbian doesn't get her way?

As for the "mere thousands" in the K-north, they form the overwhelming majority there who want nothing to do with Pristina. And shouldn't you respect their wishes even if you consider them lesser mortals than the Albanians?

'......substantial program of help that EU is putting in place in Kosovo, says Catherine Ashton.'

I wonder how much 'EU help' is being offered to the Serbs and Roma in the many enclaves throughout Kosovo i Metohija.
The awefulness and barbarity which 'the West' caused in KiM cannot be forgotten.

Contrary to what you think, compromise in my opinion isn't childish at all. It's mature and intelligent for both sides. And it would be even more intelligent for my "beloved leaders" in Washington (I don't know how you still think I'm Serb) to see it too.

Change your constitution first then we might take you seriously. Until then its simple demagogy.

miri, neither side can really "have its way". Belgrade has absolutely no authority over Pristina, but Pristina has little to no authority over the Serb enclaves south of the Ibar, and absolutely no authority over northern Kosovo. I fail to see how either side can claim to have all the cards in their favor. Therefore a compromise is just that: realizing the limits of each side's reach and what they need to relinquish. There are large parts of Kosovo that are effectively gone from Serbia Proper, regardless of an ICJ ruling. But how is it any less problematic when Pristina continues to push for authority over areas that not only reject its rule, but have never functioned within it? I fail to see how you continue to call for Serbs to see "reality" in their own backyard. Pristina? Ok. Kosovska Mitrovica? You obviously haven't been there.

-- In other words, a compromise is going to have to be reached, which means that lofty predictions and assurances made two years ago were most likely overestimations. One cannot expect stability and peace if one only listens to one side of the issue and ignores the other.

Ashton will make the final peace in Balkans. She is part and parcel of Blair vision of Balkans.

I am affraid Ashton may seal the final inevitable disintegration of Serbia.

Ashton was part of Tony Bliar's cabinet when they went to war with Iraq. The other day she defended Blair for his decision to go to war.

"'When we don’t have agreement, there are ongoing discussions among member states,' Ashton was quoted."
