Pyrros please spread your bad quality propaganda elsewhere. Nobody believes the nonsense you mention about Greeks because there is no a single Greek that would say the "scinece fiction" you mention. Greeks are one of the oldest nations in the world and their history is standard and well knonw to everybody. That's why some people are even trying to steal it (like the fyromian slavs..). So, If you are Greek, then I am martian! Please no more fyromian and albanian trolls say they are Greeks or Serbs..... we can see what you are.

Greece is the nation with one of the biggest world histories and by far the most developed and powerful nation in the Balkans. Even under the economic crisis...

The problem is keynesian economic theory and fiscal irresponsibility. They should adopt a resolution (like the the rest of the EU) on BALANCED BUDGETS. All the socialist don't understand this simple fact, or they do...and that would be even more sinister.

Terry i think *they* (west) knew who they were giving loans.
They knew very well.
i worked in the nat. stats service ages ago, the west always were loving and tender to us, when in ex-yu they were dropping bombs.

When you earn 1 Euro and spend 2, then you end up in the situation that Greece is in. Add corruption, mismangement of the economy, political squabling, high taxes and an over extended civil service, with bureaucracy which frustrates everyone including the civil servants that implement it and you have a receipe for disaster. The Eurozone cannot legally bail out Greece, but there is no law against an individual country to offer help. This help will come at a high price and the Greek citizens will be the ones paying for it, with even higher taxes.
I am Greek and I, like many of my friends are looking to get out, while we still can and before the situation gets worse.
Anyone got a job?

I believe Greece (my country) is a western creation. In 18th century west fed us with nationalism just like they do now with Kosovo.
The parallels are huge between albania/kosovo (1992+) and greece (1800+):
- similar mentality (both peoples were never industrialized or part of a prior medieval culture)
- both are non-slavic people
- Severe western-aided and advocated revolutions
- Greeks helped destroy ottoman empire, albanians helped destroy Yugoslavia
- In both Greece/Albania/Kosovo there is the oxymoron: Slavic toponyms, non-slavic natives

In Greece, till 1-2 months ago, we were portrayed as the super-balkanians or smth..

In reality, our productive force is much lower than the rest of the balkan countries (Serbia for sure).

Also the west still feeds us with nationalism in order to keep us away from our indoeuropean (just like us the Greeks) slavic neighbors (like the slavomakedonians).

That said,
West CANNOT let Greece fail... cause they cannot let their own creation to decay... They must prove that their creations are perfect.

the whole trouble with having a single common currency for some 16 countries is that you can't simply devalue it when any of the countries run into financial problems. In situations like this, the UK does have a point in keeping its sterling.

Greece, Portugal, Spain, Ireland and Italy should be thankful that they have the Euro.

All of these countries would have been in a much worse economic situation without the Euro. The Eurozone offers protection during the financial crisis.

The Eurozone will continue to expand.

Estonia will adopt the Euro on 1 January 2011.
