Olli, you are so desperately trying to portray the Orthodox Church as something from the dark ages. Will not work. What you were describing is war. War is brutal and horrible no matter where waged and by whom.
Surely you know that all sides took part in this sort of behaviour and some sides were much worse.
Don't even try to compare war to what is happening in peace time. Belgrade has it's share of intolerant people, wherether they are gays or any other group so do many, many cities around the world.

I live in Melbourne and we have huge problems with racially motivated bashings all the time. Gays were a popular target until they switched to Indians and Asians to bash.

How is Pristina doing with their "protection" of Serbs? How many Serbs get killed there and how many cemetaries were destroyed till now?

I will tell you to open your eyes now and see the whole truth, not just the truth that suits you. Right or wrong, this world is filled with hateful people. Take a look at all the honour killings in the middle east. How about all the stonings etc. Now you cannot possibly think that you can get away citing war time crimes as examples of Serbs and not quote anything that Islam is still doing all over the world in the name of that "peaceful" religion.

You are fighting a lost cause. Christianity today has nothing on Islam and that's a fact Olli. Accept it as digging up war time stories (one sided only) will make you look like such an ostrich.

Peggy,

I don't know where you reside, but certainly not in Belgrade. If you had witnessed the scenes of cross-holding radicals and nationalist beating the hell out of homosexuals on the streets you might not be as naive as you seem to be.

And in case you tell me the year 2001 is already far in the past and things have changed after: Do you remember what Mladen Obradovic, the leader of Obraz (an Orthodox Christian organisation), announced last summer (2009) ahead of planned Belgrade gay parade? If you don't remember I'll help you:

"All those trying to promote homosexuality as normal or acceptable are the enemies of the Serbian nation.[...] Everybody knows what will happen if the Belgrade pride goes ahead."

Do you want, Peggy, that I translate you his message?

Open your eyes, Peggy, as you keep them closed. When you have them open see the video of Abbot Gavrilo from the Privina Glava monastery blessing the members of Scorpions. Soon afterwards these blessed men are seen murdering...

It maybe better not to watch. You can read:

Scorpions drag Muslim men from trucks. One mocks a teenage boy that this will never have sex. The prisoners have their hands tied behind their backs. They are aware that these are their last moments. One by one they are marched to the side of the road, told to stand still and then shot in the back. Two prisoners are kept back.

The Scorpions untie Azmir Alispahic, a 16-year-old boy, and another prisoner and order them to pick up the corpses. The cameraman tells the others to hurry up because the camera battery is dying soon. He pans around the executioners who are pleased with their work as the smoke drifts from their guns. Azmir’s turn is next. In his last moments he turns and looks at the camera, held by a Christian.

So, for the sake of honesty, let's start seeing the Christian religion and church thru the eyes of these murderous people and their attitudes! Christianity will not be a religion of sunny skies, happy heavens and God's beautiful flowers! It will be a religion of sin and evil punishment, of cold-blooded massacre of fellow Christians and slaughtering of the pagans. A fugue of intolerance.

Oh Olli, Christianity has moved on since the middle ages. We are no longer barbaric and the Spanish Inquisition is only in the past.

BUT, Islam on the other hand has not moved on for a thousand years.
We still hear of fatwas, stonings, female circumcisions and honour killings just to name a few wonderful things that Islam brings us.

Please don't even try to compare the two now. They are miles apart.
Of course we are now allowed to speak of these things publicly because of political correctness but we can keep bringing up the barbaric past of any other religion.

People,

Your view of Islam suggests and forces us to think that the true core of Christian religion is revealed in the actions, deeds and thoughts of the most brutal, vicious, barbaric, abusive and fascistic leaders of Christian Church. If you have even a bit of knowledge of the history of the Christian Church you know there were plenty of power and bloodthirsty sick leaders in different positions in the church. Also on the very top.

Unfortunately we live in a politically correct world and nobody can speak the truth when it comes to Islam.

Every other religion is fair game and can be questioned and even made fun of but in today's world Islam is the only one that is off limits.

Patriarch is telling the truth but the truth is no allowed any more.

Well, he simply realized that being honest in that matter is foolish. The Islamic World is mainly on Serbia's side regarding Kosovo. THAT was his real fear. And now let us see what will come next, because we all know that this words were not a misunderstanding. He sincerely believes in that. This "apology" is only a political concession.

Maxim

This apology is a big mistake and I pray this is not a sign of things to come from the new patriarch. As stated above, speaking the truth in love requires no apologies. It is a dis-service to the Muslim community to cushion this. The statements are true and should be left alone.
