Once again Serbia is distancing itself from it's neighbours. It happend in 1991 and now history is repeating itself. When will Serbia realise you can't always have everything your own way, sometimes you got to give to gain. By Tadic not showing up to the inaugeration is a slap in the face for Croatia, the E.U and most importantly Balkan stability. Serbia must relaise that during the old YU, Serbia was powerful due to Tito's un-wanted one sided policies but not anymore. For Serbia to have any sort of tolearnce from others once again it must not bully it's neighbours but to co-operate with them.

Serbia's future is in Europe. The road to Europe is through Serbia's neighbours. Attending the inauguration of a neighbouring president is just good manners. Countries that look forward have a future. While the past should not be forgotten, countries and people that worship the past are left on the side of history's road. Greater Serbia, Greater Hungary, Greater Austria, Greater Romania...all fantasies nurtured by socially inadequate zealots.

Consistency my friends, that's the key. It's called diplomacy. The Government of Serbia has every right to show dissatisfaction about a leader of a separatist movement being in attendance.

Albanians bully and kill innocent people to try get what they desire. Serbs use peaceful and diplomatic means to prevent this.

Peggy

So many Albanian experts showed up here to teach Tadic protocol.

I wonder why he hasn't snapped some of you for that position when you all make perfect sense.

Seems to me that Albanians are more upset about Tadic not attending than the Serbs are. Weird.

PS

pre 14 godina

Absolutely the right decision. Serbia needs to evaluate each situation and decide what is in it's best interest. Croatia should not have recognised Kosovo, however, it's never too late to withdraw recognitions. Croatia needs to decide what is in it's best interest.

Serbian Tadić wants to negotiate with the Albanians but cant be in the same area in case they bump in to each other. Strange and weird what is he scared of. Has some one been telling Tadić that Albanians are 3 meters tall and eat Serbs for breakfast. Maybe it is baby face Vuk Jeremić he heard it from true Serbian fairy tails. Just do not look the Albanians in the eyes or the spell will be broken they will seem just like you uuu scary.

Bad move by Tadic in my opinion. Josipovic has clearly extended his hand towards Belgrade immediately after being elected. He's already distanced himself from the bumblings of his predecessor and is looking to seriously mend fences with Serbia. This would have been a perfect opportunity for Tadic to return the gesture by attending the ceremony without caring who else was at the party. He could have either ignored Sejdiu and proved his irrelevance amid his own flexibility, or he could have even tried to shake his hand and greeted him as the "president of the temporary institutions of Kosovo" or whatever they call it, and be the bigger gentleman. The look on Sejdiu's face would have been worth the price of the trip. Instead, he stays at home, Sejdiu can breathe a sigh of relief that it's another ordinary day for him, and the ceremonies continue regardless.

He has no other choice but to shoot himself in the foot, considering that this govt has invested so much effort in making any rapprochement with Kosovar authorities impossible.
What I don't understand is that they insist on ignoring Kosovo's democratically elected officials. Forget independence, should they not cooperate with them, if they're serious about the concept of broad autonomy within Serbia?

WROG. Serbia has no friends. Especially in the region. All the countries around have recognized Kosovo and those in the world that didn't have recognized the passports (including China). Serbia has to forget Kosovo and move on. Instead they should concentrate on how to make life better for the K-Serbs.

Who would thought Kosovo is more important then region leader Serbia? Knowing fully how much support Kosovo has from west, its simply foolish to ignore us. Montengro has already taken side, you guys have left, who? RS? Yeah good luck with that artificial "state", even Greece recognize Kosovar passport, funny since they havent recognized our Independence. While Slovenia in other hand is getting their hands on every major company in Kosovo due of the growing population and demand. Ministry of Transport made it official 1 billion euro worth highway will be finished in 36 months and Kosovo having access to their own port is smth even Belgrade will envious. Do I have to remind Prishtina's International Airport is the only international airport in the Balkans who increased their passangers with +8% while Beograd's Tesla dropped -10%, what happend to the blackhole mafia state Kosovo who would eventually starve?

I support Tadić on this one but I'm sure Josipović will be quick to make amends. The absence of the regional leader really weakens the inauguration. I bet Josipović was hoping Sejdiu would not attend.

It's also good to see so many Serbian-Albanians take great interest in their president even though they express their disappointment. I don't think anything else could be expected.

I look forward to successful negotiations between Serbia and Croatia and may this be the start of things to come with BiH and KiM.

I think the president of Serbia made a serious error in judgment. He has to be prepared not to attend a lot of inaugurations’ as many countries in the region have recognized Kosovo’s independence.

This decision not to attend the inauguration goes to show that Mr. Tadic is no different than his predecessor when it comes to Kosovo. Serbia has a long way to go to relieve itself from its past demons. Serbia is hunted by its past mistakes and currently is trying to desperately hang on to something that entire world knows and accepts as being lost.

It’s extremely sad and disappointing that Serbia is trying to use all its might to prevent Kosovo from making even a tiny inch forward. I wonder if NATO wasn’t in Kosovo and Serbia had a free hand to operate in Kosovo what would the current regime do different than that of Milosevic. The answer is nothing they would behave the same way if not worst. They are certainly not democrats when it comes to Kosovo. Until Serbia learns how to be a good neighbor and by that I mean respecting its neighbors and their decisions it will remain in continuous conflict with all its neighbors.

I commend Croatia from making the right decision and not bowing to the Serbian blackmail. Personally I can not wait for the ICJ to come up with the ruling which will be the last nail in the coffin when it comes to Serbia’s stance related to Kosovo.

Maybe they are happy to have a mafia warlord from an unrecognised 'country' attend the ceremony. I don't know.

Internationally, the Zagreb government will look pathetically foolish by not having the President of their important eastern neighbour in attendance.

Don't know if it was a smart move not to attend the ceremony.

Doing so, he gives Kosovo and it's "president" much more influence than they deserves.

Serbia's future is in Europe. The road to Europe is through Serbia's neighbours. Attending the inauguration of a neighbouring president is just good manners. Countries that look forward have a future. While the past should not be forgotten, countries and people that worship the past are left on the side of history's road. Greater Serbia, Greater Hungary, Greater Austria, Greater Romania...all fantasies nurtured by socially inadequate zealots.
