Brace yourselves. I was surprised to learn that Vuk Jeremic's great-grandfather on his mother’s side was a prominent Muslim politician before World War II. Since he isn't "pure Serb" I wonder how this will affect his popularity one it is more widely known? I mean he is one of the main politicians spearheading the fight for Kosovo. Every Serbian supporter on these comment boards speaks very highly of Mr. Jeremic and have the utmost confidence in his abilities. Your savior technically is 1/8th or 12.5% Muslim. Who says Muslims aren't trying to help Serbia? ;) [link]

You you trying to turn Serbs against Vuk?
You are not telling us anything was was not already known buddy.
It doesn't matter how much Muslim blood in in him. What matters is what sort of a man he is and what he can achieve for Serbia.

Shoul we all hate Rasim as well because he is full blooded Muslim?

This is not about hating Muslims. This is about getting justice for Serbia. Muslims are very welcome to be citizens of that country.

Now try another tactic. This one is not working.

"Serbia had suggested that Montenegro should wait before establishing diplomatic ties with Kosovo until after the ICJ reveals its decision on the legality of the UDI"

Wow, do what I say but don't do as I do... So Serbia itself has already declared without waiting ICJ's decision that it will never recognize Kosovo regardless of the decision. But Serbia asks OTHERS to wait for the ICJ's decision before recognizing Kosovo !!!!!! I don't see why others should do so when Serbia is the first not to do so (i.e. to wait for the ICJs decision).

I love Montenegro. My parents are from there. My dad is Albanian and my mother is Montenegrin and both are muslim. I speak both languages and write both. I was born in Chicago and currently live here. What I admire about Montenegro is that everyone that I know both Montenegrin and Albanian work for a common cause and thats imrpoving their lively hood for themselves, their families, and in the end the country benifits from this initiative. Sure, you have stereotyping and racism there, but doesn't that exist in every country in this world? The Montenegrin society is inclusive of all ethnicities. Whether you choose to succeed or fail is up to you. Montenegrins may not be rich as a whole, but they have honor and respect for themselves and their neighbors. Montenegro! When right keep it right; when wrong, set it right! Pay attention Serbia. The love of one's country is a splendid thing. But why should love stop at the border?

(Mirub Jager, 15 January 2010 17:06)>>

i agree, mirub, there has been some very good news in the balkans of late, though not throughout the world (terrible suffering in Haiti.)

but anyway, i am so pleased w the latest recognition(s), this step forward for montenegro, and, hopefully, seeing our pal azem vlasi as the next ambassador to mont., as b92 reported some time ago, and as he recently confirmed to my frnd.

there is nothing "intractable" about the ancient animosities of the balkans. we see that, every time some positive new development occurs, one that we may not have expected. when democratic leadership is in place, and when they are determined to act pragmatically and to the long-term interests of their people, of the region, of the world, then we have progress.

when a leadership continues to play to the worst in their own people, and continues to drive determinedly backwards, that's when we have trouble.

best of luck to the growing relationship btwn Kosovo/a and lovely Montenegro!

Zoran,

For the 11th time I'M NOT ALBANIAN, I did work in Kosovo for my country's contribuitive efforts there to assist development in justice sector. Thus, I had a direct access to the reality on the ground unlike many of our dear posters on this great medium of information.

and just how does this show there is a chance for peace? If Montenegro didnt recognize Serbia's province of Kosovo, what exactly would happen? what on earth would the albanians do to Montenegro?

Dear sir/madam;

I just don't understand why Serbia doesn't accept the reality on the ground and allow the region to move forward towards prosperity. I don't see what they expect to gain with their endeavors. I sincerely would love to know what their anticipated goals are, reunion of Kosovo with Serbia. It's unrealistic and completely impossible to realize. What would a country with the fastest mortality rates in Europe, Serbia, want with incorporating a country with the fastest growing population in Europe, Kosovo, within its borders? Within decades we would be a 50/50 percent population and soon thereafter Albanians would be a majority. Kosovo is a cancer to Serbia that they should want to get rid of as soon as possible, not the other way around. It really baffles me what Serbia and its politicians are trying to accomplish.

Zoran

Mirub Jager, I said nothing of the kind so stop making up stories and proving to be just another Albanian with a highly developed imagination.

Zoran,
Wake up. You said CG will never recognize Kosovo but it happened. Just couple of weeks ago you said CG will wait for ICJ advise to decide on diplomatic ties. Today you say that is not important because it will take a long time until exchanging ambassadors. Who cares? The day CG - Serbia Union broke was a great day for The Balkans. The day CG recognized Kosovo was a great day for Europe and today is a great day for a chance to eternal peace.

At this point, should any of us really be surprised at this? Podgorica made it painfully obvious such an action was in the works. How they plan on mending fences with Belgrade however is another story, but Milo's little zadruga hasb't really been all that interested in placing relations with Belgrade over other strategies.

Montenegro, you have with no doubt shown your maturity as regard as state affairs are concerned. This is another ripe step towards the stability and reconciliation on the Region. On the other side Serbia is displaying so naïve and immature politics so I don’t get it any more. All the time we have been thinking that Serbia deliberately runs an obscured strategy aiming more goals, such as creating an image as a stability factor, same time acquiring all benefits at the diplomacy area and its status in the International circles, what is most important constructing a balance on bad deeds committed during the 90’s.
But, with the recent behavior seems that it is not the case, in fact Serbian politicians are running against all kinds of mills. It shows so stubborn attitude despite its disputable background. In other words; Serbia’s case demonstrates (??!!!) an absurd opposing the entire neighborhood in all aspects, becoming a permanent troublemaker in the Region. It is very bad indeed, for Serbia itself.

More absolute shame brought on Montenegro by Djukanovic and his gang of cigarette smuggling.
How can Montenegrins look themselves in the mirror without feeling shame?? Let's hope this is the straw that broke the camels back for Montenegrin citizens, and Milo is thrown in jail soon, where he belongs.

First of all, great news!
Second, let's guess which cliches will be used today:
Another stab in the back, stab in the chest, finger in the eye, pull the ambassador, demarche, betrayal, criminal states, jerem jerem jerem bla bla...yawn.
Serbia should really take cue from CG, because rather than acknowledging 'mutual friendship' with kosovars/albanians, the two parties could have easily professed eternal hatred today, considering recent history. It just shows how quickly toxic myths are shed off if there is a strong will to live in peace.

Djukanovic just had his "get out of jail free" card extended but even so, I'm not expecting an exchange of ambassadors for quite a while and very possibly never.

I think Kosovo's recognition by Montenegro is as good as Djukanovic's hold on power. After that I just hope our ethnic Albanians are just as nice to this small country as they are now.

Be nice to our brothers. Not everyone agrees with Djukanovic and they are under a lot of pressure. With Visa free travel in place, Montenegro may experience financial difficulties this year. I would hope ethnic Albanians help out and travel there during summer.

By strengthening diplomatic ties with an illegal Albanian fiefdom that occupies 15% of Serbia, the Montenegrin government is sending the message that it is not interested in having normal relations with Belgrade and that ethnically-motivated secession is acceptable. If that’s the case then Podgorica shouldn’t have a problem with Serbs proclaiming independence in northern Montenegro or Albanians stealing some more land in the west of the country. After all, why should Serbia be alone in having to deal with territorial theft?

This is not about hating Muslims. This is about getting justice for Serbia. Muslims are very welcome to be citizens of that country.

Now try another tactic. This one is not working.

Mirub Jager, I said nothing of the kind so stop making up stories and proving to be just another Albanian with a highly developed imagination.

Until all sides come to an agreement, lasting peace cannot be established.

and today is a great day for a chance to eternal peace.

and just how does this show there is a chance for peace? If Montenegro didnt recognize Serbia's province of Kosovo, what exactly would happen? what on earth would the albanians do to Montenegro?

So one Serbian(montenegrian) minister will travel free and visit enclaves.
Let`s hope that Montenegro would start with treating albanians in Montenegro as well as albanians treat Montenegrins in Kosovo..
Tha games have started..

At this point, should any of us really be surprised at this? Podgorica made it painfully obvious such an action was in the works. How they plan on mending fences with Belgrade however is another story, but Milo's little zadruga hasb't really been all that interested in placing relations with Belgrade over other strategies.

Who says Muslims aren't trying to help Serbia? ;) http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/16/world/europe/16jeremic.html
