This is a good thing, the people in Serbia and Republika Srpska should be able to decide if they want memebership in such a horrible organisation.

This is the most cynical phrase I’ve ever heard from the side of Serbian “intellectuals”. It deals with memory of a time not long ago, a memory that ignores Milosevic’s stubbornness to give in to demands of the UNSC, incl. Russia and China to halt his actions in Kosovo. It ignores that that regime was connected with Serbia’s criminal cartels. How tainted with false or strong nationalistic premises the memory of these intellectuals must be.
Of course a whiff of SANU 1986 is obtruding upon us. Maybe it is a good thing that we have to deal with only 200 intellectuals and we know that Serbia has a multiple of intellectuals with a total different view on the recent past. Hopefully this government ignores this plea, which internationally only could harm the state.
I actually believe that more than 95% of the Serbian population are against NATO membership.
Yes, a referendum should be undertaken on this issue and no government should be allowed to ally Serbia with this godforsaken organisation without the consent of the Serbian people.
By the way, my country, Ireland, is not, nor has ever been a member of NATO and we are doing fine.
NATO is now a morally defunct outfit. It has no place in the 21st century.
Let us focus on rebuilding the United Nations Organisation by putting the bullies back in their boxes and every Nation working for the good of all in respecting International Law.

I’d say we have done extremely well considering Serbs hold 80% of the best parts of the old Yugoslavia. The rest was left to the US/EU to maintain. Once again I’d say we have done extremely well.
