Amer - when UCk started their terrorist attacks - in Kosovo were only small army units. So - bandits can have their own "big victories". But after 3rd Army units comes into province - they were crushed and escaped into mountains or to Albania.

Quote from Flamur (See below) - The time when all foreign occupiers will be driven from Kosova is now very close.

Which foreign occupiers - US, EU, Albanians?!

As you cannot spell Kosovo properly, I suppose you also include Serbs in your generalisation?

Yes, I did not see anything of any intellectual significance in that entire, rambling diatribe.

Hey, since we will be neighbors soon after I build my cabin up near Gazivode, would you like to come over for a cookout?

Kosovari,

What about Americans in EULEX? Are we still welcome?

Bekim,

Having nothing to argue my comment will not entitle you to "pedophile" me.

Probably due to your young age, you discredit yourselves with this tantrum.

Bekim, if you want to be a good patriot, please take a broom and clean your environment first. I have been to Romania and other poor European countries before, but nowhere I experienced this utter carelessness to live on gargabe dumps, parents blowing smoke in their children's face in restaurants and so on. Is this what you are proud of? Or maybe the booming economy, bright eyed honest taxpayers, perhaps your strong army that can defy Serbia and Nato?

Finally to B92.

Please wake up and don't use double standards, if you censor words in my comments "ignorant" to Bekim, and I EXPECT B92 to delete comments amounting to outright personal insults as "pedophile".

Albanians here's guys drip feeding you independence fantasy saying you must behave or else. You get it not even drip and crumbs if you dont behave? And good clean anti-Serb fellers too. So why they speak to you Albanians like cocky colonial sheriffs? I see no respect no great admiration like between equal allies. Why is that?
(Tabalija, 12 January 2010 20:44)

Talking about equals. Have you guys begged for warmth to the cocky Eurocrats for this yet? You know this time every year you run out of gas and a few months later out of money. Again before pointing you finger take a look at your own. Your country is in no better position having to beg every year so people don't die out of cold and beg for money so you don't starve out of poverty. It would behoove you that instead of this superiority complex you have towards other ethnicities you direct some of that criticism towards those in Belgrade who are freezing you to death and are keeping you poor. Fix your own house before lecturing others.

1. EUrocrats as you call me are here thanks to the TAXPAYERS of EU. You and no one in Kosovo are one of them

2. EU taxpayers are funding the cleanup of this hole called Kosovo because it is in the doorstep of EU and poses security threat, and a hotbed of criminals exported to EU

EU taxpayers can go themselves, we don't need the charity so you can feel "christian" of yourselves

3. It is easier to tackle the beehive than fight the bees spread all over, i.e criminals. That is the logic in the interest of EU.
If that was the case then you should send EULEX in Italy , Romania, Greece and so on and on.

4. You should walk on the street with the proud thought that your people were given a chance to prove that you can stand on your own as a civilised European state.

Huh! You keep saying civilized as if it means something. Civilized germans used to gas people and then burn their bodies after they had removed their golden teeth, of course.
5. This will take lots of time and pain listening to the more experienced and cleverer Eurocrats, I know this is difficult to swallow your pride, but you have to, for the sake of your grandchildrens.

Ah, sanctimony and a patronizing attitude, my favorite. Now get the hell out of my country!

Roberto, like it or not, you're an American before anything else to most non-Americans, and should expect to be lumped in with the rest of us. Face it - wouldn't you begin to resent foreigners (even Canadians!) who moved into the U.S. in force to tell us how to run our government, our economy, our society? Eventually the time comes for even invited guests to leave.

Jason I didnt say Serbs disliked you, I dont know that, I said when generally we dislike someone.. we dont threaten to obliterate their entire family in blood feud and so on.
Now you hinted you work for Eulex. If you do this applies. Eulex is violating mandate approved by Un, its not status neutral and it works against vital insterests of the state of Serbia therefore. I work to help vital and all other interests of the state of Serbia. So we have clash. And its not about what someone says but what they do. If someone works for Eulex and for example to make illegal parallel ahtisari municipality in north KM no amount of slava going will make them friend of Serbs. Although I believe you think what you say, but its irrelevant. Albanians shout at you for no reason. You work for their interest and they wont even let you be a little arrogant and push them around and have your own opinion in your free time.

"1. Yugoslavian army was in 1999 not 4th largest army in Europe. ..."

I shouldn't have put a number on its relative size, you're right. On the other hand, Serbia had armament factories, trained and experienced officers, tanks and heavy equipment ... It was still massively more than the Kosovars had.

"2. Iraqi or Afghani rebels started war against FIRST POWER ON EARTH. Without any help."

Who ever said they were cowards?

"3. Terrorist strategy and attack against K-Serb civilians and than escape into mountains - it was very "heroic" strategy."

Their targets were mainly military and police forces. Of course they escaped to the mountains! Didn't the partisans escape after an attack?

"4. ... Only US intervention saved them."

As only the French, perhaps, saved us in 1781: "Yorktown - This was the last major battle of the Revolutionary War, occurring in 1781 ... The war might not have ended had the French navy not cut the British army off from its supplies (after a rare event, a victory of the French navy over the British). It effectively ended the war and made George Washington a legend to this day." http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/273253/key_battles_in_american_history_from.html BTW, the first portrait to be hung in the Capitol Building in D.C. was of Lafayette - we knew who we owed.

"5. We remember who burned Patriarchate of Peć in and expelled K-Serbs in 1981. It was same terrorist strategy."

Always a bad idea to go after your enemy's religious buildings, granted, but this wasn't the KLA in 1981.

If you believe that your internet advocacy earns you the right to peddle to the supposedly grateful beneficiaries of your vital support, I suggest you restrain yourself to lecturing your Bosnian friends, more used as they are to a toxic foreign presence, about the "evils" of paternalism. Your message of perversion will never be welcome in Kosova. I am only pleased that you have exposed yourself here so that decent Albanian parents can be aware of your agenda and respond appropriately.

johny

pre 14 godina

Roberto don't worry dude. Every group and nation has people that are on the fringes of society. Us Albanians are no exception. You can see the various mindsets here on B92 both on the Albanian and Serbian side; also on the international side. Don't take anything personally. I myself have been accused of not being Albanian enough too. Whatever that means. Some people love to provoke and some people lack the mental strength and ability to spot and hold provocations when they appear. As a result they go into generalizations, and into personal attacks. I ask you, Jason, Olf, all the other internationals, and all those who post here not to take seriously any provocation or verbal attacks coming from any side be it Serbs or Albanians. Taking such personal verbal attacks, or provocation seriously is nothing but giving credence to the fringes of our respective societies.
I ask you, Jason and all the other internationals, despite the opinion you have on Kosova to continue doing the best job possible and if possible to leave your personal opinions home ,whether they are for us or against us, while you are trying to help the people in Kosova be them Serb or Albanian. Since it is harder for us that have been in the conflict to detach our opinions from our jobs your help as international would be very grateful if there is a detachment of your political views from your technical jobs.
You will always have people that are not happy others, and foreigners, and as you might have seen on B92 posts this is on much higher levels in the Balkans. There are people that no matter what you do to help they will not be happy but will group you with the few that have failed them.
I sincerely ask you and other posters, despite ethnicity here to refrain from personal verbal attacks so that we can continue to have a conversation and discussion that is not only meaningful but also based on reason and not yelling. Different viewpoints on issues when discussed in a reasonable fashion without personal attacks do not bring regress but progress; as such different and opposite viewpoints should be welcome as we all learn where each of us stands on specific issues. We don't have to agree on them. We can have a meaningful discussion if we learn to agree to disagree and not degenerate our conversations into a yelling and personal accusation fest.

P.S I join you on equal rights for the gays, marriage included.

Second. Jason it doesn't hurt to educate yourself. If Kosova Albanians were terrorists you'd be seeing buses blown up is Belgrade. Instead what was blown up were police stations and military buildings in Kosova. You know non-civilian institutions. Guerrila war and terrorism are two different things. If you wanna talk about terrorism talk about Srebrenica. Talk about how 60 civilians among them babies 1 year old were killed inside pizzerias. If that is not terrorism in your eyes then you are no better than those who committed such crimes.

Can you name me any occurrence like the pizzeria shooting or anything of the scale of Sreberenica that was committed by Kosova Albanians?
(johny, 12 January 2010 18:28)

Johny,

Yes there is a difference between terrorism and guerrilla warfare. I have no doubt you know about these differences and it is clear that you are educated on this subject. You know the saying, "one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter."

There are hundreds of incidents predating the war and well after it (which are the most heinous since Kosovo was under NATO occupation) where Serb civilians were killed in terrorist violence. The children gunned down while swimming in Gorazdevac, the 12 farmers gunned while working their fields down near Lipljan, the car bombing of the last Serbian official to work in Pristina back in 2001 - the guy worked in the passport office, hardly a military threat - the Nis bus bombing... and I can keep going with hundreds of systematic murders of Serb civilians in 1998 and 1999...

I do not minimize civilian losses in Bosnia at all, but I still think that there was plenty of terrorism committed here by the KLA and denying it seems to be dishonest to me.

johny

pre 14 godina

To respond to a Serb poster here. I wouldn't talk about ENTITLEMENT if I were a Serb. There is a saying " Serbia till Tokyo". That alone expresses the SELF-ENTITLEMENT attitude of the Serbian society. Think about your own before pointing fingers.

i believe that what is happening here is one after another after another of the worst examples of nasty colonial, ugly attitude from someone PAID to protect people there just flipped a few switches, and understandably so. i do not believe, CANNOT believe that such evil and arrogance represents intl workers as a whole, kfor, eulex, whatever. some bad ones, yes, but as a whole, no.

if you can convince me that i am wrong, then i will change my attitude and at least call for eulex to be set away.

as for the gay equal rights issues: i very well that know that you and many others come fr a deeply patriarchal where such things as i discuss have no menaing, except as some kind of "perversion" or "rape" or "abberation." i have gone round and round with some of my frnds about this, sometimes w success, sometimes not. for example, with albin kurti -- he is an intellectual and i'm sure not a homophobe. i also came from a patriarchal culture here, and learned better, and so can you and others. we don't have to be enemies or opponents; we can learn from one another.

again, i must stress, when you print all the provocative hate messages here, there are consequences...

Roberto, a single deluded imperalist is less harmful than one who seeks to export to corrupt our children. If you were in Podujevo as you claim, you will have seen that there is no homosexuality there, nor any desire to see foreigners introduce such practices. The KLA took on the 4th largest army in Europe with no guarantee from the U.S. or anybody that they would be supported. Amer, I respectfully disagree... The KLA used terrorist tactics to provoke a response by the 4th largest army in Europe. It is not like they bravely fought a conventional battle and prevailed. They ambushed police and various government workers and terrorized civilians all with the hopes of provoking an excessive use of force. Thachi has stated such in past interviews.

Whether or not they earned what they have is a matter of opinion - we obviously disagree. I cannot accept rewarding terrorism by inferring that the KLA earned anything.

We never invited EU to help us in '99. We saw what happened to Bosnia because of the mantra repeated in every capital in EU "No muslim states in Europe!". So I would tell you where to take your sanctimonious crap and do with it but B92 would probably censor that.
(Bekim, 11 January 2010 16:29)

bekim, appropriately or not i really feel i have to apologize for what we are seeing on this site. it brings new meaning to the old term "ugly american." i have already said my piece, how i view that particular international, pardon the expression. i'm used to such characters (middle school) and have no patience with them. the main difference is that we don't go out of our way to give them a platform, much less highlight them. think about it.

the US (and others) did, in fact, come in -- a few minutes to midnight -- to help save the day. for many reasons, humanitarian and otherwise. i wasn't there, but followed things minute by minute, blow by blow. it was unimaginably horrible for the people on the ground; in a way, it was the worst of all worlds. we needed ground troops -- underestimated slobo's intransigence. in retrospect, we were a bit arrogant and naive. and yes, in many respects the kla was the force for liberation, in an otherwise impossible terrain...

the enemy took full advantage of the situation, made the lives of a million people miserable. murdered thousands, systematically raped god knows how many (it isn't discussed openly in such a society), created havoc and hell. we got them out, thank god, but at a very steep price to native people.

based on what i've read, ground troops would have followed soon, but finally serbia's resolve collapsed. that was their grand "victory."

as to the churches and monasteries -- normally they must be sacrosanct, as should remain all religious institutions. if we know anything about the 90s, we know of the 100s of mosque's and catholic churches destroyed by the enemy. it
is well known and instructive.

i am aware that SOME churches were built during the slobo era, as types of fortresses ag. the native albanian population. some of them were burned down shortly after war's end, they were considered legitimate targets.

for me it is a slippery slope, all the way round.

again, i must apologize to every Kosovar, esp.ly the albanians, for the ugly comments today. there is no excuse: the "bad apple" metaphor doesn't even begin to approach it.

btw, i have a great deal of respect for mrs. kelmendi. there must be a solution for mitrovica -- some compromise, but it cannot be allowed to continue as a lawless island of hate and subversion.

thank you, and one day i'll learn some more albanian, as well i should, as well we should!

I haven't been for a while on this site, but how Jason put it in couple of sentences - it summarize it all great from inside out - all true, can't say it better - it hurts but can't say it straight to the point in very polite way - and shouldn't try.

I posted same thing year ago - "Albanians hasn't earn independence - they don't deserve it - UDI are forced on them by WEST - for different political reasons(Bondsteel, to please Muslim countires at times-Clinton, to get foot in Balkans - to balance against Russia etc.)
Again all true to toothless threats against Serbian Army - again first gunshot without NATO or EULEX in Kosovo - the shortest and fastest run to the mountains - AJMO(BJEZMO) SVI U PLANINE.

But also I said before:doing politics last 20 years and handle Kosovo -Serbia and Serbian politicians don't deserve Kosovo either.

So, must be forced talks on both sides for compromise, reconciliations, peace and EU integrations.

Leave the nonsense for someone who doesnt know you and yours Alban. Ovk or Uck terrorists were trained and financed by west since 96 at least. Milosevic's fault alone he didnt squash them there and then like bugs they are. Our fault we didnt squash Milosevic when we saw he was letting terrorists carry on. 99 aggression on Serbia was illegal and unprovoked and just postponed from 98. Nothing to do with what we did or didnt do.
Theres bunch of criminals sitting in many armies and governments all over west now or maybe retired. Lot of good they did for their countries though? Whats body count made by that mentality in Iraq and Afghanistan now? I bet it's painfully painfully high.

Jason, as long as those opinions don't affect people's lives in a negative way you can keep them. I specifically have in mind Albanians since the attitude you have towards us is well known. We all have opinions. There is nothing to get angry about them. Since there is no way to verify from these posts whether or not your opinions lead you to abuse your job then it is nonsensical to talk about identity revelation either.

One advice though and this goes to those who are on our side too. Do not become more Serbs than the Serbs and more Albanian than Albanians. If EULEX was to turn that way than that mission would be a terribly failed mission.

Jason

First of all, it was my country who helped defeat the Germans AND your country... do not try and revise history by pretending Albanians were not Nazi pawns.

"No one ever won a war by dying for his country. He won a war by making the other poor SOB die for HIS country."

I don't like this idea of sending Albanian judges from the south to the North. That spells trouble and conflict. Whoever thought that should be fired on the spot. The judges there should be Serb and rightly so, since the majority of those living there are Serbs. Maybe an Albanian judge for the Albanian neighborhood there is sufficient just so that we don't hear anything in the news that an Albanian got punished by Serb judges because he was Albanian. Same thing would happen if the judges there were all Albanian and Serb were sentenced. That is not good for any of the sides.
However I believe that some sort of a deal should be made between the Serb judges in the north and EULEX. Not because of any hopeless wish for Prishtina to have authority over them; but because judges can be corrupted too and EULEX would be in a great position to oversee them and rid the corrupted ones.

We never invited EU to help us in '99. We saw what happened to Bosnia because of the mantra repeated in every capital in EU "No muslim states in Europe!". So I would tell you where to take your sanctimonious crap and do with it but B92 would probably censor that.

NOT EU! And we have the bodies of thousands of dead to prove that we won it and earned it. Jason, are you old enough to remember 1998/1999? (I can almost, hazily, remember the dinosaurs, myself.) The KLA took on the 4th largest army in Europe with no guarantee from the U.S. or anybody that they would be supported. Clinton got the U.S. to come in by (stupidly) promising that we would not use ground troops - that would be up to the locals. So we ended up with 2 casualties, and the Kosovars with how many? Air power alone was not enough to end the fighting, and diplomacy certainly wasn't. I figure the Kosovars earned their country.

On the other hand, threats against monasteries are just plain stupid.
(Amer, 11 January 2010 21:16)
Amer:
1. Yugoslavian army was in 1999 not 4th largest army in Europe. In 1998-9 Yugoslavian army was badly damaged after wars in Croatia and Bosna and long time embargo. Strongest armies in Europe had: Russia, Germany, UK, France, Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Ukraine, Belorussia, Poland. So - it was mayby 12th in Europe.

2. Iraqi or Afghani rebels started war against FIRST POWER ON EARTH. Without any help.

3. Terrorist strategy and attack against K-Serb civilians and than escape into mountains - it was very "heroic" strategy.

4. "Kosovars" (what is a nation "Kosovars"??) not earned any country. UCK terrorists defeated war. Only US intervention saved them.

5. We remember who burned Patriarchate of Peć in and expelled K-Serbs in 1981. It was same terrorist strategy.

Jason

pre 14 godina

NOT EU! And we have the bodies of thousands of dead to prove that we won it and earned it. Since there is no way to verify from these posts whether or not your opinions lead you to abuse your job then it is nonsensical to talk about identity revelation either.

Well, then please OBEY (!) international law and accept that Kosovo province is still part of Serbia.

That was the deal back in 1999. And as long as there is no mutual agreed deal Kosovo is part of Serbia.

Albanians, please stop 'cheating'. And start playing by the rules!

Again Jason I don't think you are someone that knows what fortitude is let alone who has it. If we are talking about fortitude of EU nations during WWII I bet we would be having this conversation in german and slavs wouldn't have been part of EU if it weren't for USA a country which we did ask for help. NOT EU! And we have the bodies of thousands of dead to prove that we won it and earned it. As far as churches if you use them in a campaign against Kosova and its freedom and considering that freedom is a zero sum game you can clearly deduce what I think should happen.
(Bekim, 11 January 2010, 18:17)

First of all, it was my country who helped defeat the Germans AND your country... do not try and revise history by pretending Albanians were not Nazi pawns.

Second of all, having dead bodies does not award you victor status. Recall General George Patton who once said something to the effect of,

"No one ever won a war by dying for his country. He won a war by making the other poor SOB die for HIS country."

As your thoughts on destroying churches, it is people like you that caused the violence to reach that level. It is sickening that you can justify it in your own mind.

Leave the nonsense for someone who doesnt know you and yours Alban. Ovk or Uck terrorists were trained and financed by west since 96 at least. Milosevic's fault alone he didnt squash them there and then like bugs they are. Our fault we didnt squash Milosevic when we saw he was letting terrorists carry on. 99 aggression on Serbia was illegal and unprovoked and just postponed from 98. Nothing to do with what we did or didnt do.

Jason, thanks one more time.
