China is now the 2 largest economy in the world. It overtook Japan in December 2009 and at this rate it should overtake the US by about March/April 2010 if currently production levels continue and growth is maintained at 10% per annum. This was not supposed to occur for another 30/40 years; China was supposed to overtake Japan in 2030/35 and the US in 2050.
However, Iraq and Afghanistan and now Yemen happened. The unemployment figures are out for the quarter ending December and they don’t look too healthy, well it back to the drawing board Mr Obama.

It was really a matter of time before China overtook Germany as the worlds leading
exporter. Not that Germany is doing badly but simply cannot
compete with China's export bandwagon. With annual growth rates approaching 10% China is destined to become the world's leading economy in the near future.

Chinese and German savings are higher than the Anglo-Saxon economies because the latter barely save at all. Any savings are frequently required to pay for medical and other welfare provision.

In addition, the pool of savings also provides for the much higher levels of investment than in the Anglo-Saxaon economies, which is why they have emerged more quickly from the current crisis and relatively stronger too.
