With the sort of past Croatia and Bosnian Muslims had, they should just shut up and hope that nobody discusses the past.

Here is a little something they can expect if they keep stirring.

If I were them, I would hope that it all goes away instead of risking exposure to the world.

If Croatia doesn't really want this suit why then did they start the whole thing in the first place?

Did they think that Serbia will just lie down and surrender?
My advice to Croatia is to drop the suit first as it was first to initiate it.

If you really want good relations with Serbia then drop the whole thing. Why should Serbia drop the counter suit first?

The Croats don’t need “provocations” to attack Serbians; they just need the opportunity. A cruel and vicious Serb-hating racism is so ingrained into the Croat psyche that even de-Nazification programmes could never make them accept their Serbian neighbours.

Serbia would be wise to copy Israel and build a 20 meter-high “Peace Wall” along its border with Croatia. Serbia does not need Croatia and it should sever all economic, political and cultural ties with that country.

Michael,

The last thing we need in the Balkans is more walls and divisions. I have some Croat friends who live in both Croatia and Serbia and there are decent blokes.

In a side note, I met Mr Pruhoski at a conference in Belgrade a few years ago and found him to be decent and genuine.

serbia would win this and they should show all the proof that krajina was never part of croatia it was always Serbian land in history and all Serbs to return so there is 1 law suite and the croats killed many innocents while leaving so the Serbs could not protect them selves and were not combatants there, the second law suite
croats destroyed homes and Serbian businesses and should be all rebuilt and get compensated and reopened buy the owners for there's 3 and the list goes on, but krajina should be on the table and all Serbs to return and then get full autonomy and then vote for independence in the near future because that is and was Serbian land in history . and lawyers in serbia and world lawyers should get stared on this and find and send letters at whats going on with these properties and how all the people from krajina get updated and to get all lands returned.

"...compared to the Slovenians, as far as the public is concerned Serbs are our friends,".

I had to read that several times! Then again, stabbing ones allies in the back does tend to have such results.

On the other stuff, I believe that he is correct that it is simply political though the longer both of these cases go on it will only serve up bad publicity for both sides.

OTOH, they may well both drop the suits in future as there is no 'practical' benefit to either case.

The Croats have absolutely no hope of coming off 'better' unless God is a Croatian can can simply rewrite history and make everyone selectively forget. Croatia neither has the money nor enough serbo-phobe historians (N. Malcolm, N. Stone for example) to do this or just the usual outright denial like Turkey over the genocide of the armenians. The best they can hope for is getting away with it like Austria because they have the right powerful friends at the right time.

The Serbs have long been accused of all and sundry of things that have since been proven to be either lies or massive exaggerations, not to mention the over saturation of the media space by stories of 'Serb evil' that no one cares or believes it any more, even if the media does continue some of old propaganda, i.e. using 'men and boys' because they cannot legally say 'civilians'. The Media and individuals can cry wolf (Ashdown+ICG), but no-one comes any more...

Puhovski said “[Croats] are a lot more preoccupied with the economic problems and survival” and that “a little more than ordinary nationalistic provocations would be needed to get anti-Serb and anti-Serbia reactions”. If only that were true.

What did Zagreb expect by pulling this irresponsible stunt which was purely political and out of spite. Did Zagreb expect Belgrade to roll over?

This will only damage relations between the two countries. Is it asking a bit too much for Croatia to show some political maturity, mend fences with its neighbours (Serbia & Slovenia) and move on. Pathetic.
