What about restoring rights to the Italian ethnic minority in Croatia. We will never forget the 'foibe' massacres of 1945 and the 'essodi' from what are traditional roman lands. Marco Polo & Mario Andretti were born there and neither was a Croat. The original Croatia was centred around Zargreb. Croats are decendant from Iran's Zargros mountains. What we witness today is not a greater Serbia BUT a GREATER CROATIA which is unjustly occupying Roman (italian) & Serbian Lands.

Croats are descendent of the South Slavs who came to the Balkans in the 6th Century. So what if Mario Andretti was born in the former Italian part of Croatia? Brits have been born all over the world such as India, Zimbabwe, Ireland and Yemen, that doesn't give us a right to these lands. Many Germans were born in Königsberg which is today Kalingrad in Russia. Does that give Germany a claim to this land? Many Austrians were born in South Tyrol which is now part of Italy, should that be apart of Austria? Boarders change all the time for many many many reasons. Get used to it! If there were a Great Croatia, it would take up Bosnian lands too and does it? NO! Croatia's boarders are the same as they were in 1948.

"Historical Truth"??? What an unfortunate choice of phrase considering Tudjman's Holocaust revisionist and deplorable 1989 tome 'Bespuca - Povijesne Zbiljnosti' (Wastelands - Historical Truth). Amongst other insightful 'analyses' he wrote:

"The estimated loss of up to six million [Jewish] dead is founded too much on both emotional, biased testimonies and on exaggerated data in the postwar reckonings of war crimes and on the squaring of accounts with the defeated... In the mid-1980s, world Jewry still has the need to recall its "holocaust" even by trying to prevent the election of the former U.N. Secretary General Kurt Waldheim as president of Austria."

'Only' 900,000 by his estimates! And despite this he was invited to the opening of the US Holocaust Memorial Museum! And not to mention Waldheims past as an Nazi intelligence officer in the Balkans was covered up!

Still, at least Kosor is acting as a mature balkan leader, despite her problems with historical revisionism. This pragmatism bodes well for Croatia and what needs to be done.

This is frightening gobbledegook, coming from the Croat PM.
The sad thing is that so many Europeans will believe all the lies emanating from Zagreb.
History will soon show exactly what Croatia, Germany and others were up to, with regard to the break up of Yugoslavia.
The lies and false propaganda will be uncovered.

The very tone of Kosor’s comments indicates that she’s not really interested in maintaining normal relations with Serbia. Croatia has never faced up to the unspeakable, heinous crimes that it committed against the Serbian people in WWII and during the so called war of independence. Zagreb unconstitutionally seceded from Yugoslavia in 1991, established a parallel army, adopted the same flag, currency and anthem as the genocidal Nazi puppet state of Croatia and ethnically cleansed Serbs from their historic homelands. And now, they have the audacity to accuse Belgrade of having pursued a greater Serbia. Today, Croatia is a cold house for the few remaining Serbs that live there. In the last year alone, we’ve heard reports of doctors refusing to treat Serbian patients, Croat students attacking Serbian students, Serbian vehicles being vandalised, and serbophobic rants from various politicians and clerics. All this, against a backdrop of Bleiburg commemorations, Operation Storm glorifications, and the ubiquitous, Ustasa-nostalgic Thompson. Hopefully, Serbia’s countersuit will shed some much needed light on the events that lead to the unnecessary death of Yugoslavia.

The question is why are they doing it?

Jim, good neighbourly relations has very serious repercussions for Croatia. They have many skeletons in their cupboard and taking this position temporarily diverts attention.

Croats always seem to be talking on both side of their mouth. Does it not remind you of normal western ways. We love yoy, but will kill you anyway. Remember M. Albricht how she proclaimed love for serbian people just before ordering keeling of them. Remember when USA VP came for visit saying: "We can agree to disagree about Kosovo." Who can trust any of these people when they don't hasite to use any means to destroy serbian people.

This makes absolutely no sense at all. If the wish is for good relations in the future then why risk it for the sake of the dwelling on the past. We all know that terrible things happened, but does this need to be pursued in the courts - especially as it is highly likely that no one will come out well given Serbia's countersuit (which Belgrade really seems to be pursuing with the greatest reluctance as it has no alternative but to respond to Croatia's actions or else face having the ICJ rule on one side of the story).

I am not sure what Zagreb is playing at, but one can only conclude that for all the talk of good relations with Serbia they are actively pursuing a very different policy. The Croatian Government is doing everything in its power to antagonise Belgrade and ensure that relations deteriorate (ICJ case, testimony to the ICJ on Kosovo, recognition of Kosovo, Mesic visit to Pristina, etc.). Not good at all. The question is why are they doing it?

Lets hope CRO's new govt puts an end to Mesic-style interference in Serbia's domestic issues lest Belgrade start using the growing Serbian minority & increasing liberal atmosphere in CRO to demand autonomy for Krajina when the S. Stream gives us the leverage to do what we need to hammer in our revived status as Balkan regional leader, the Russia of the Balkans.
