The US cannot leave Afghanistan for two major reasons. The first relates to its standing on the world stage; “to cut and run would in their words deliver a blow to the west that it cannot recover”. The second reason is connected to what I call the Dick Chaney effect – the corporations have not made fill of making money out of the US so they are supporting the war until the last red cent is sucked dry out of their coffers.
The US or NATO cannot win in Afghanistan and they are looking at an exit strategy that would leave them in reasonable order so that they can boast of being the winners – much like the Soviet Union. However, the enemy has other ideas, starting with Iraq. The US will find it very difficult to leave Iraq because of constant attacks and that way their forces are divided, never allowing them to consolidate in Afghanistan.
There is a big difference between Vietnam and Afghanistan. In Vietnam the US was making money and lots of it whereas today it’s all on Mastercard. So if it’s not the Taliban defeating the US led NATO forces it will be bankruptcy of the US.

A Taliban spokesman says Wednesday's attack on a U.S. base in Khost province was carried out by an Afghan army officer, but this has not been confirmed

The latest attack by the Taliban on the US security forces illustrates that Obama's policy of fighting this war in tandem with the training the Afghan police and military to take over security duties from Nato forces lays in tatters. The infiltration raises serious questions about the loyalty of Afghan forces, and shows the Taliban's ability to strike inside CIA intallations with impunity.

The ghosts of Vietanam has been circling Afganistan for sometime now.
