He can walk the streets of pristina who is going to touch him nobody because the did then you can kiss any kind or further recogniation or face retractions as well and if you lose your support then you are sunk and then you are asking to face a military response no one is stupid enough to do such thing. If Hashim went to belgrade the same issue would follow so please stop with the who can visit where and work to create a place for all to live in peace. happy new year folks from Dubai UAE.

Personally I don't think Tadic will get to visit Kosova without Prishtina's permission/approval.
Remember that Sejdiu has already made it clear that he won't invite Tadic to Kosova as long as he keeps saying blah blah blahs which are nonsense.
I think Tadic is very upset because Croatian president is going to Kosova in a week or so where he'll be declared "honorary citizen of Prishtina".

Mister

Ian, you are correct that the reality is that Tadic cannot walk the streets of Pristina. Can you also accept some other realities such as the fact that, if it is a nation, it is a split nation. Not only that but it is a nation who's status is and will remain unresolved until such times as agreement is reached at the negotiating table.

I personally cannot see how K-Albanians can be under Serb control again but this unilateral approach is the seeds for future conflict. That is a reality.

(lee coleman, 31 December 2009 12:44)

Yes it is called politics, but you have the wrong end of the stick as Serbia-Kosovo and Australia-New Zealand are completely different scenarios.
The President of Australia doesn't say that New Zealand is a province of Australia; unlike Tadic who says that Kosovo is a province of Serbia. If this were true, he could visit Kosovo's "provincial" capital. Tadic claims he has the authority to visit Kosovo as it is still within the Republic of Serbia. But this is simply not true. Tadic would need authority from the Republic of Kosovo to visit Pristina and Tadic does not recognise Kosovo. That is what I am getting at, who has the real authority for Tadic to visit Pristina?

I want Tadic to walk down the streets of Pristina to prove he has the authority to do so.
His visit to the north of Kosovo is a publicity stunt to trick people and the media into thinking he still has the authority to visit Kosovo, when he doesn't. He only has the authority to visit the Serb dominated North Kosovo which is de facto still part of the Republic of Serbia. If he had the real authority to visit Kosovo, he would visit Kosovo's capital Pristina; but because he doesn't he can't. I'm just trying to prove his publicity stunt wrong!
He cannot visit the heart of Kosovo aka Prizen or Pristina without the authority. Tadic is not president over Kosovo any more and I have grown up because I have accepted and realised this. Lee you need to grow up and realise things as they are on the ground. Why deny reality? Why live a lie?

Happy new year everyone!

This boorish behavior on the part of Tadic is not surprising. In fact, attempting to crash an event he was deliberately left out of, by a consensus of those attending, is something I very much expected of Tadic. I guess some people simply cannot accept the fact that they are not wanted in civilized company.

There is a handycap with Tadic approach to Kosova especially when he is planning to visit Kosova without recognising its institutions. It is a PARADOX and I am preatty sure it will NOT LAST for ever. Trust me! I have been proven right so far here at B92.
I find it hard to believe that the EU will allow Serbia to join "without solving the "dispute" with its neighbour" especially with Kosova/o.
I find it hard to comprehend the Serbian logic talk about Serbia's sovereignity over Kosova one one side and alleniating Kosova's people with the policy of obstructing further international recognitions and not recognising Kosova's institutions.

robby

Tadic announce his visit because of an agreement with UNMIK and not because of the Kosovo Government.

If Kosovo wish to be a international respected state, it should invite Tadic to walk in Pristina; regardless whether he is head of a foreign or the own state.

Hey, last time Tadic visited he made many political statements and confirmed that Kosovo is Serbia. It doesn't look like he's banned either so Thaci is just a powerless puppet. Who cares, let him sneak in. He will come and go, and change nothing as usual.

Tadic will meet some K-Serbs and have a speech on how he cares about all Kosovo. Big deal, it will go in one ear and out of the other of the K-Alb. Tadic knows very well how much K-Alb want to be ruled by Serbia.

Clearly this is Tadic's response to the meeting of Western Balkan Presidents to be held in Prishtina in the beginning of January.

In the name of peace, and keeping conflicts into a minimum, which is good for the economy as well, let him come and be happy. They know serb presidents will not be able to do this indefinitely. So let them enjoy this now that they can.

Michael R.

Tadic lacks the courage to walk the streets of Prishtina.
Like Bogdanovic, he can only utter his politically charged and provocative statements from the comfort of Belgrade. Tadic runs the risk of being banned from Kosova if he runs his mouth to create tension with the government of the independent Kosova. Just ask Bogdanovic if you have any doubt.

Tadic going to Kosovo is by now no big deal as officials from Belgrade come and go without any real problems. I really don't think Tadic's presence is going to ruin the day of an average K Albanian as I doubt the majority of them won't really care.

In response to some posters saying Tadic should go to Pristina, I have two points.

1. He theoretically *could* go there and speak with the 60 or so remaining Serbian pensioners. But since that would only cause a ruckus, it would probably be best for these Serbs to be bused over to Gracanica where they can speak with him in greater peace.

2. Tadic can no more walk the streets of Pristina with impunity than Thaci can walk the streets of Kosovska Mitrovica or Gracanica. He can give a speech on Kosovo being part of Serbia from the comfort of a Serbian enclave, just like Thaci et al giving a speech on the flourishing democracy of the newest borned state from the comfort of their bubble in Pristina. Let's not even worry about the north; the minute Thaci can travel 5 km outside Pristina and give a speech in the middle of Gracanica, I'll change my tune. But I suspect even if he could, he wouldn't be interested.

Finally, in regards to some Albanians suggesting he's coming because Pristina granted him permission, that depends on who did the granting. Feith and EULEX? Probably. Thaci et al? Weren't they pressured to nod for the cameras last time by EULEX too?

Dear Mr. Feith,

Referring to your letter on April 15th, 2009, requesting to allow the visit of the Serbian President, Mr. Boris Tadic, to the Decan Monastery in Kosovo on April 17th, 2009, on the occasion of Orthodox Easter; I inform you with the following:

Considering the fact that the exercising of religious freedom is guaranteed by all the international conventions and having in mind that the Government of Kosovo considers this visit to be of completely private and religious nature, and after close consultation with the heads of the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo, I have decided to allow entrance into the territory of the Republic of Kosovo for the Serbian President, Mr. Boris Tadic, on April 17th, 2009.

As it was stated earlier, this visit is private and of a religious nature and as such, it cannot be used for other reasons. The Serbian President will be escorted by the Kosovo Police to the Decan Monastery, to participate in the Orthodox Easter mass, and afterwards will immediately head back to Serbia.

If the President of Serbia makes any political statement that is contrary to the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo, according to article 4 (1) on the procedures and criteria for official visits by the officials of the Republic of Serbia to the Republic of Kosovo, his entrance to Kosovo will be banned in the future, be it in a private or official capacity.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Good for Mr Tadic! I think that a visit to Kosovo would be a very important gesture to all in Serbia and abroad.

To "An Albanian":"Boris Tadic is welcomed in Kosovo and Albania, but doesn't it seem kind of rude to visit only his own natinality and return to Serbia like the Albanian community doesn't exist?"

He doesn't need anyone's permission to visit a province in his own country although it is nice to hear.

As for your comments about not meeting Albanians, he is a civilised man and I am certain he would be more than willing to meet people of any ethnicity.

Hate against the Serbian community has been stoked up to such an extent in Kosovo that people are still being attacked just for being Serbian. Serbian communities have to live in protected areas, and the hate is being fed from parents to kids, resulting in attacks.

Obviously it is unsafe for Mr Tadic to visit Albanian communities, and if any Albanians welcomed him, then what would happen to them and their families? The same as the witnesses who tried to speak at the Hague?

Mr Thaci grew up in Serbia which is where he was educated and received his army training. Despite the image painted in the Western media, the Albanian language was being used as an accepted second language by the Serbian state in Albanian areas.

So Mr Thaci learned Serbian in Serbia, and yet when he visited Serbian communities (which I'm sure they found very 'comforting') he was applauded by the Kosovo media for speaking to people in 'their own language' - of Serbian! How ridiculous and ill-spun that looked, when it was the very language he grew up with.

So against this backdrop of amateur diplomacy, gangsterism and violent ethnic undertones, it is hardly surprising that Mr Tadic is unlikely to visit Albanian communities.

When a genuine solution is found for both sides to move forward there will clearly need to be a social and educational rehabilitation programme run throughout Kosovo to knock out all of the hate being passed from many parents to children.

And say what you like about Belgrade, but I visited there before and after the attack on Serbia and I met and spoke with Albanian people living there peacefully and carrying on their business.

Why would he go to Pristina? He will attend places that are majority Serbian and address loyal Serbian citizens. Ethnic Albanians have their parallel institutions and Serbia has allowed them to have a high level of self-rule. The province is functionally partitioned and each have their loyalties. This non-sense about Kosovo being independent is disproved by Tadic's visit.

The status quo remains and the UDD did not break it. Everyone has admitted the status quo is unsustainable while only renewed negotiations can lead to lasting peace and prosperity.

This is a choice ethnic Albanians will have to make sooner or later. Live in a prison camp or negotiate a prosperous future.

Why would he go to Pristina? He will attend places that are majority Serbian and address loyal Serbian citizens. Ethnic Albanians have their parallel institutions and Serbia has allowed them to have a high level of self-rule. The province is functionally partitioned and each have their loyalties.

Ian, UK

pre 14 godina

(lee coleman, 30 December 2009 22:43)

European Union Special Representative
Prishtina, Republic of Kosovo

Dear Mr.

Happy new year everyone!

ian . the president or PM of kosovo cant walk the streets of belgrade either without the proper planing or permission yes ? just as the PM of australia cant walk the streets of NZ with out planing or permission etc etc ..... its called POLITICS ian .

Am I the only one that finds it funny that it was the albanians on this site claiming victory when Tadic was elected? saying how his name is really Tadiqi and that he would recognize Kosovo right away? what happened ? why did you guys change your tune ? What will you do if Tadic does goto Pristina and walks around? are you going to attack him? are you going to arrest him?

"He might be visiting the North, but that is nothing as it is de facto still in Serbia.

I'd love to see Tadic walk down a street in Pristina. The thing is he wouldn't be able to do that. He hasn't the power to do so. Visiting the Serb dominated North is a bit different from visiting Kosovo's capital.

So I call on Tadic to walk the streets of Pristina and prove that "Kosovo is Serbia", if he can?
(Ian, UK, 30 December 2009 15:36)'

Why would you love that Ian? Because you believe in mob rule?

Tadic announce his visit because of an agreement with UNMIK and not because of the Kosovo Government.

If Kosovo wish to be a international respected state, it should invite Tadic to walk in Pristina; regardless whether he is head of a foreign or the own state.

Why Tadic can enter Kosova and visit north Mitrovica or Gracanica, but my prime minister Hashim Thaci can not enter Presheva, Bujanovc and Medvegja.
(Alban, 30 December 2009 22:31)

You should ask yourself where your muppet show thaci has been travelling lately... not many places where he is welcome and you most probably know the reason, if not, look behind him you might find some red spots following him....

Happy New Year to all

Ian, you are correct that the reality is that Tadic cannot walk the streets of Pristina. Can you also accept some other realities such as the fact that, if it is a nation, it is a split nation. Not only that but it is a nation who's status is and will remain unresolved until such times as agreement is reached at the negotiating table.

I personally cannot see how K-Albanians can be under Serb control again but this unilateral approach is the seeds for future conflict. That is a reality.

That is what I said today, but unfortunately my coment never made it. I'll say it again, can Tadic do that or NOT???
(Kosova-USA, 30 December 2009 17:43)..."

So, what would happen to Tadic if he tries to walk the streets of Prishtina?
Will Albanian kill him?

Personally I don't think Tadic will get to visit Kosova without Prishtina's permission/approval.
Remember that Sejdiu has already made it clear that he won't invite Tadic to Kosova as long as he keeps saying blah blah blahs which are nonsense.
I think Tadic is very upset because Croatian president is going to Kosova in a week or so where he'll be declared "honorary citizen of Prishtina".

"That's a nice letter.

Coherent and concise. . .and a complete and lame attempt by Thaci to save face!"

-- Who even said Hash wrote it? At best, some American diplomat wrote it and gave it to Thaci to "sign here" :)
