Not only did your people have everything to do with the Nazis but your clergy participated in Nazi activities and murders of Serbs.

Ok for those that bring up WW2 NDH hrvatska, first off that was a whole other generation, to bring this up in court or in any reasonable argument is faulty considering the fact that no croatians today from the ages of 1-70 took part in this chapter of croatian history. I am croat and to deny that NDH ustase goverment didnt have a bad policy or agenda with yugoslavia is just wrong of course they did bad things but in the end serbian oppression against croats didnt necessarily cause it but it definitely fueled it. Yugoslavia for croats in the past 60 years wasnt fun either guys ala the whole croatian war of independace. If yugo had been run fairly run with openly taught ethnicity and had a proper goverment agenda towards the people as a whole croat/serb/the rest then croatia would still probably be in union with serbia as it should be in my eyes. Sometimes i hate you guys, but then i chill with some of my serbian buddies and its all good mi smo svi isti. Some of us actually want to move on from this petty political bickering. Of course we will have some bad blood but some realities are impossible to break. Krajina is part of croatia, parts of posavina are serbia, thats the way it is. Im not sure about sj's statement of 45% unemployment in croatia because all my family have jobs and everything is just peachy over there for them. The simple fact is that croatia as a whole whether serb or croat is way better off now than they were in yugo. Croatia is joining the EU we have to compensate the refugee serbs from krajina unlike some governments we actually have programs and budget set aside for the ones that truly deserve it, the serbs that didnt want anyting to do with RSK and im sure you wont believe me but there were many, 1/10 of the croatian army was serbian or croat/serb mix so that just tells you something in itself, they saw an injustice happening and they took the side of freedom for people in whole and justice for all, unfortunately the crimes commited by serbs towards croats before operation storm led some croats to go on a murderess rage during 95 to justify it is wrong but the simple matter of the fact is that after vukovar/dubrovnik the milosevic regime showed its true colors to the croats and this in turn led both our peoples towards policies of ethnic cleansing, it cant be justified its a simple truth.

Croatia might not be financially stable right now but all the right wheels are in motion over there, Also to the many serbs that vacation over there, you see the changes every year.
Also you guys aren't ones to talk, your government budget is way in the deficit and we are right behind slovenia when it comes to economic development in ex-yugo, only reason slovenia is on top is because austria is a 40min drive away for them, so they are a special case when it comes to inter-balkan development

Croatia is building in the right direction, things arent perfect but for everyone there its prosperity now. Everyday you can wake up to freedom and liberty is a good day.

Serbs and croats are the same people, only difference really is that you guys celebrate christmas/easter a week later, and we hate eachother for it, its dumb. My ex-girlfriend was serbian and we loved eachother, her parents were alwys cool with me and vice versa, in fact they loved me compared to her other boyfriends because i speak fluent croatian id always converse with them and they were always cool with me. The day we stop the hate will be a good day for everyone.

Realistically this problem wont be solved by our generation its the younger generation that has to evolve out of this hatred and i hope things change. It has too.

Croatia went through major change, serbia can to. Its never too late.

But majority of croats dont believe kosovo should be independant, also me and all my serb friends do believe that bosnia is a farce and should belong to croatia and serbia proper. Bosnian(Muslims) arent a nation they are a product of turkish ottoman invasion and should be inclined to there own nation, if karadzic didnt pumble them like he did then bosnia might be a different place today.

Honestly in the end its sad, i live in canada and croats and serbs over here have learned to get along its not impossible for Zagreb/beograd to get there act together, and i truly believe croatia will not take war issues or etc against serbia when it comes for there times to join EU. Croats may surprise you that day.

On one hand, yes, all this is a waste of time, but on this other hand it might help to clear a bit the mess that was generated in the balkan during the war and maybe and hopefully shed some light on what really happend!
Good luck

The Serbs on this site keep referring to WW2 in this counter suit. If the Serbs want to mention WW2, well maybe we should bring up the last 70 years with the assasination of Croatian Peasant Leader Stjepan Radic by Serbian radicals, Serbian fascist leader Gen Milan Nedic or even the Banjica concentration camp in Serbia proper-must I go on..The reason Croatia is suing it's neighbour is because it's neighbour destroyed and pillaged 33 % of it. If Serbian president Boris Tadic had a heart he would pay compensation to Croat families for pain and suffering but also to Serb families who did not want any part of Martic's so called Sao Krajina but were forced to accept it. Someone has to pay for this error in judgement.........
(HB, 30 December 2009 05:02)

You bring up a good point about Punisa Racic, this is the Montenegrin who shot and killed Stephan Radic as well as other Croatian deputies who dove in front of Radic to save his life.

The story goes that Stephan Radic said sarcastically that 'when a Montenegrin goes to the toilet, he kneels down on all like a Turk on all fours.....the sarcasm was going on for days and Punica Racic planned for this as any Montenegrin would with a gun stowed away in his chest.

Punisa Racic was arrested by the then Royal Monarchist government of Alexander Karadjeordjevic but was later released in a gross injustice. This was one of those incidents which gave rise to the Croatian nationalism and the eventually assassination of Alexander Karadjeordjevic in Marseilles, France in 1932.

Croatian nationalism has never taken blame or admitted the genocide that was perptrated against mostly Serbs, but Croats as well as Jews and Gypsies under the Ante Pavelic regime. They equate the genocide to Serbians such as Milan Nedic, Draza Mihailovic and others who fought against the Nazi's. Nedic took the position of PM of Serbia as Nazi Germany was threating to put Ante Pavelic in control of Serbia to continue his genocidal madness.

Turkey to this day denies the Genocide against the both the Greeks and Armenians in the early 20th century, Croatia is following the same path.

Numbers dont' lie, Serbs living in Croatia before WWII was close to 40%, today it is less than 5%. Ante Pavelic promised that 1/3 Serbs would be killed, the other 1/3 converted and the 1/3 cleansed, his mission is completed.

Need it be reminded that according the Yad Yashem institute in Israel, over 750,000 Serbs, Jews, Gypsies and Croats were exterminated by Ante Pavelic and the Croatian Nazi's.

Stephan Radic death was tragic and wrong, but no justification can be given for the holocast that was inflicted by the Croatian Ustasha.

“Croatia had nothing to do with the Nazis” – well this must come out of that special Croatian library that only Croats have the privilege of seeing and no one else. Those nasty Serbs have done it haven’t they? They killed themselves; isn’t that right?
Unfortunately, Croats have a terrible history of blaming everyone else for their misdeeds – it’s always someone else’s fault never yours.
Croatia,Slovenia, Montenegro,Macedonia,,,, even Kosovo itself is achieving alot more than Serbia at this point..
Do tells us how they are achieving this greatness??? All of these would not last one day if the EU stopped putting money into their treasuries. Let’s look at the levels of unemployment – Croatia 45%; Slovenia 35%; Montenegro 80%; Macedonia 90%, Kosovo 95%.
And Serbia’s is 25%. Read it and weep boys. Now you can read all you like about GDPs in the Economist if it will make you feel better; in fact it’s one of the better propaganda sheets I have read so far it’s even better than that other trashy magazine, Foreign Affairs.
sooner or later you will face the music, at least before that comes? and knocks at your door? be brave and apologise to Croatia,Bosnia & Kosovo for the damage you,ve coused... wish u all the best though...

What are you talking about? What or who is knocking on “your door”.
As Bob Dylan sang, “the times are a changing” and so is the political master in Europe just as it has changed in the world. You great protectors the US are finished and China is the big boss now. Don’t you guys keep up with current events. The EU can do nothing it’s also finished. It relies on Russian gas to keep its industry running and the Southstream pipeline will make Serbia the controller of the Balkans. Nabucco pipeline is finished, its history and their will be no competitor to the Russians.
In the meantime Putin has announced that Russia will now deploy new offensive weapons systems, I’m sorry for you. The first will be in Nis.

(HB, 30 December 2009 05:02)
Let’s look at the assignation of Radic. Although I don’t agree with the action I can understand why it did happen. There was debate in Parliament over an issue and Radic blurted out in relation to WW1 Serb losses “Tell me how much that Serbian blood cost so that we Croats can pay for it”. So in a fit of rage a parliamentarian pulled out a gun and wounded him. Bye the way the man who shot Radic was from Montenegro.
When WW1 was over the Croats sent a delegation to King Alexander of Serbia to plead with him to join a new country called Yugoslavia and an interesting man was part of that delegation, Ante Pavelic.
There are many still alive today that recall what Nedic did. On numerous occasions the Ustashi, and their allies the Bosnian Muslims, demanded wheat, flour, and other food in exchange for Serbs so Milan Nedic gave them the food and what they asked for to save his people. Banjica concentration camp was German run institution not the property of Serbs. As Serbia was occupied by Germany the Serbs had no say what so ever.
This is recorded in most good libraries, but it may not be in that special Croatian book repository that you guys seem to obtain your history from.
You want compensation from Serbia, I can accept that point of view. What about compensation for the 800,000 Serbs killed by your fellow Croats during WW2.
Don’t worry about the compensation now because that’s in the pipeline. Here is something for you guys stew over. Croatia is going nowhere until the refugee matter is settled. The choices are simple, and I understand the EU agrees, for those that wish to return, all buildings to be rebuilt and compensation paid for loss of income during their absence and compensation in addition if the fields were worked by Croats. If the refugees don’t wish to return then full compensation together with interest.
This is where it gets a might sticky for you Croats – if Croatia is unable to pay compensation then it has to give territory to Serbia which will then distribute land and pay compensation out of its own treasury.
From what my sources tell me Croatia does not a Peso in reserve, in fact it owes 57 Billion Euros.

I really think croatia should go ahead with it, Croatia had nothing to do with the nazis, thats another serb/propaganda.. its not new to us, just like they did come up about Kosovo..lies after lies,, Serbia thinks can fool the EU. Little do they know that the EU itself have been around a lot longer than the entire balkan states, 2nd, I dont blame the entire serb population for what Milosevic did in the early 90s,but i strongly blame the goverment in belgrade for destroying serbia slowly, the goverm in serbia are sleep walking, dreaming, that Serbia 1 day will control the ex-yugosl again, and that Kosovo will loose its case at the ICJ.. wrong... I say to the serbian population the more you believe in your goverment the worse its gonna get, Croatia,Slovenia, Montenegro,Macedonia,,,, even Kosovo itself is achieving alot more than Serbia at this point... sooner or later you will face the music, at least before that comes? and knocks at your door? be brave and apologise to Croatia,Bosnia & Kosovo for the damage you,ve coused... wish u all the best though...

I'm pretty sick and tired of Kosovars (Albanians), Croats and Serbs living in dirty houses while blaming their neighbors dwelling in the middle of filth.

A typical example. EA talks about the need of Serbs paying for their crimes: "A crime is a crime and need to be punished despite its "nationality".

OK, EA, don't stop here but start by talking of killings done by Kosovars. If you are a bit righteous person you have no need first to spit over the fence on your neighbors yard before you admit the dirt on your own. Or you search for and offer the same excuses as your opponents do? You explain well the violence of your own? You have good reasoning for certain crimes?

I do understand if no Serb, no Croat and no Kosovar can admit anything. You've got mud on your own feet! Except those brave ones that opposed the lies and violence from the very beginning. Many of them got silenced by their own folks.

My brother, Serb in Krajina, told me how non-local Serbian provocateurs appeared to his village to kick Croats when the Serbian villagers wanted just to live in peace with their fellow Croat villagers. And I know well this took place on each sides of The Great Divide.

If you can't first take a look at yourself before accusing the others you are willingly an ignorant hypocrite. And a coward.

It's alright with me if the teams here want to sue each others for crimes, but first they must grow up. Otherwise no-one takes this seriously. And each accuser only appears stupid and a faker.

I find all this amusing. Does anyone find is strange that no one is jumping on the Croatian lawsuit bandwagon?
Not necessarily because it will fail but because this will remind everyone that atrocities and bad acts of violence were done by all sides and it was not good vs. evil. This is a no win situation for Croatia, Serbia or the EU & US, unless the courts are by-passed.
This will however benefit the Serbian radicals and all this talk of Croatia blocking Serbia’s EU path, you are practically inviting Russia a larger open door into the region once Serbia has nowhere else to turn.
Totally petty, pathetic and inviting future hardship on your own future generations, must we really wait for the generations of people alive during the civil war to die before you bother to make life easier for yourselves?
Nothing remains as a status-quo, it will and always has changed through the centuries and when it does, the actions taken now will result in retribution when it changes and all sides know this, which is why it’s even more stupid.

It sounds rather weak that this is only being done because Croatia is suing Serbia, when it should have been done long ago for justice's sake.

I don't understand why the official Census reports are not used.

It is the Serbian population which dropped heavily in Croatia, not the Croatian population at all.

The ethnic Croat population was stable and as a percentage it rose.

The Serb population in Croatia fell dramatically from over 12.2% in 1991 to less than 4.5% in 2002.

Plus there is all the Serbian homes, businesses and property which has been stolen from Serbs or rendered unusable because the Croats have kept the Serbs from coming back and repairing the property and working their land.

You are wrong, Vojvoda (Albanian spelling?). There is no such thing as a done deal in the world, especially in the Balkans. All sides, I repeat, all sides did horrific things during the Balkan wars, and if one side wants sue, then fine, let's bring everything out in the open (but I feel the West doesn't want that). And Croatia's actions during WWII should be brought to light, let the world know who they sided with, and what they did - and that includes the Albanians in Kosovo with your Skenderbag divisions. So, let's boogie if you all want.

Jeremić said that “it would be better if the court process never happened.”

Jero, it would have been better if wars never happened. Then no court process necessary. However, it is not too late. Serbia should apologize, pay for damages and promise to work on peace in long term. The same then should be done with Bosnia and last but not least with Kosovo.

We will see but one thing seem very unethitical with Serbia's stance when askin Croatia not to go ahead with lawsuit.

John

Just go ahead and childishly counter-sue Croatia. Once Croatia is part of the EU and this will certainly happen before Serbia will get even near to the EU, you will find yourself outside, for an indefinite time. Kosovo should prepare also to sue Serbia. Enough evidence to succeed is available, anyway.
