Albania as an economic powerhouse, oh, please stop this, I am on the floor laughing. However, I hope Albania gets into the EU very soon and then there will not be an Albanian living in that region.

Excuses, excuses, excuses! I'm just surprised you didn't blame Milosevic for Albanias failure as a country!
One more thing! Serbia didn't start any war outside its own borders. Kosovo is Serbian.

Well, you can't say that Albanians are not dreamers!
This is something a teenager would write out of pure emotion.

This is right up there with the time that Arta proudly stated (albeit without any factual basis ) that KSF is on its way to becoming one of the best armies in Europe! Buah-ha-ha-ha-haaaaa!

"As long as Serbia dosen't cooperate with the goverment of Kosovo Serbia will never join EU."

-- Again, there are no stipulations that Serbia must recognize Kosovo in order to get into the EU. Germany hasn't stated it, England hasn't stated it, even the US of A hasn't stated it. This is only being spread around by Albanian nationalists who either keep thinking they need to believe this, or are just intoxicated with shoddy journalism in Albanian forums.

"You cannot enter the union if you have iunresolved issues and Albania dosen't have that."

-- Of course you can. Look at Cyprus.

"This devolpment of albanians fears Serbia because then Serbia will not have the same influance in the region."

-- I really don't see a deteriorationo of relations between Belgrade and Tirana. Aside from Kosovo, the two states get along relatively fine. Why just last week Berisha's government donated upwards of 400,000 euros to the newly created Municipality of Gracanica, much to the consternation of Albin Kurti who argued, quite rightly, that Pristina would never see that money.

I have nothing against Albania democratizing and growing further with EU integration. It should benefit all in the region, but if you honestly think Albania is going to somehow trump Serbia, I think you're reading far too many nationalistic threads. Both will grow and both will continue to have a hand in influencing respective communities in Kosovo.

Serbia has as many pensioners as workers, you can't get around that.

You've got to be kidding me? Albania a regional leader!!! Perhaps if your neighbours were Afganistan and Somalia!
Why hasn't Albanian joined then? No wars, no sanctions, no suspected warcriminals and still no EU!
Don't talk about what could be but what is! Anyone can make up stories for little children. WHERE ARE THE FACTS!

In what way would giving up sovereignty to the NATO-union EU benefit Serbia?

This is what we should discuss since an increasing part of Serbians becoming majority are against doing so. For NATO client states & statelets it´s an obligation but we do have a choice...

"Albania will join the union faster than Serbia as long as Serbia keeps its destructive policy towards Kosovo."

I don't know how many times it has to be said, even by EU officials, that recognition of an independent Kosovo is not a prerequisite for joining the EU. Not all EU members recognize Kosovo. Should they be kicked out of the EU?

Demi

I wonder when the "successful" country of Albania will join?

Albania will join the union faster than Serbia as long as Serbia keeps its destructive policy towards Kosovo. As long as Serbia dosen't cooperate with the goverment of Kosovo Serbia will never join EU. You cannot enter the union if you have iunresolved issues and Albania dosen't have that. Albania allready an Nato member and with an economy who is growing very fast are steping up in the regional stage from a destructive past changing it's politics from communism to democracy. Now only devolpment waits for both Albania and Kosovo. As 2008,2009 even 2010 will be an good year for albanians. This two will be regional leaders and economic centrum for the entire region in the future.

This devolpment of albanians fears Serbia because then Serbia will not have the same influance in the region. That is why Serbia is against the the independence of Kosovo.
