Man the only genocide that happened was the on in 1941-1945 in the puppet state of the NDH. In this last war there was no Genocide. It was only Serbs uniting and taking up arms against The Ustase in order not to be slaughtered again like in W2.... With that being said Croatia should face the real truth and drop its case so the whole region can move frowards not backwards.

Those lawsuits are counterproductive, and won't bring anything to anyone.
It would be best if both sides dropped their suits, regrettably Croatia refused this. They can still agree on it in the next 3 months, let's hope that they will.

I agree that ethnic cleansing took place but not genocide.
Here is oppinion of prominent Zagreb attorney Anto Nobilo.

Title suggests:

"Attorney: Storm More Like Genocide than Vukovar"

Nobilo claims

"Storm had more important elements that are closer to genocide than what happened in Vukovar. But that also did not cross the boundary of genocide."

But in the end concludes
that

"....none of the lawsuits for genocide would succeed because there was no genocide from any side. "

Lawsuits are waste of time.

"He said that Croatian officials supported the dropping of these charges, but that it was necessary for the Croatian public opinion to be appeased."

-- Of course one must wonder how public opinion came to reflect the sentiments Stojanovic claims, and blame falls squarely with state-sponsored commemorations of the past that place one's own group in a perfectly victimized role, while the other, in this case the Serbs, is cast as the sole perpetrators of conflict.

In other words, public opinion did not just automatically congeal around anti-Serb xenophobia. Rather, it is a reflection of deliberate policies by officials in Zagreb during and after Tudjman's reign in promoting a sense of Croatian ethnocentrism. Public opinion can neither change, nor be appeased, so long as socio-political elites continue to appropriate a particular historical narrative that describes the events of 1991 - 1994 as purely an act of self defense.

Counter productive for who, and, on what basis do we reconciliate, dokture profesore? It seems to me that your statement amplifies our politicians will to still "grab" for a string of hope that the idea of Yugoslavianism can be saved...and again at the expense of the Serbs, no doubt! Never again! No, no dokture, forget that! Yes, we need to reconcile our differences in the region, but only when Croatia realizes she has no grounds to sue anyone least of all Serbia. I'm sure that once Croatia and "our" politicians understand this, our nation will no longer be held hostage to a lie!
