Seriously, how hard is it for KAs to understand that in order to join the UN a state needs to have approval from the Security Council. This means acceptance from all 5 permanent members. Only after that does the General Assembly have a vote. No SC, no membership. It has been said here countless times and yet people just don't seem to get it.

Kosovo a UN member? Don't bet on it. Kosovo will find it impossible to scale over the Great Wall of China (and Russian) vetoes at the UNSC. Might as well wish for the moon.

I read here, some of you are writing that PNG lives from Australian money. Also other little islands around the world who recognized Kosovo lives from the countries like, US, France or Great Britain. But they do have a seat in the UN same as Russia, China or India.
BTW another 25 countries then see you in UN with Kosovo having a seat also.

Serbia ain't singing yet mate, but Serbia will sing eventually; Serbia will sing it loud and clear for all to hear.

For you information Papua New Guinea only survives due to Australia’s money. You see Australia rapes PNG of its natural resources so it’s no wonder that it’s going to recognize Kosovo. However, they can recognize my dead grandmother, but Kosovo is going nowhere and the only song the UK will sing is “Which cheek do we kiss Serbia on?” I guarantee you this! We Serbs have a great debt to repay “Great Britain” and this young generation will repay you with interest plus some.

El Salvador was going to recognise Kosovo, but the same scenario happened as we have here. Pacolli announced it way before it actually happened, so this gave time for Russia to pay El Salvador a visit and they threatened to block veto several things which El Salvador wanted in the UN if the recognised Kosovo. Now that Pacolli has done it again, he has secured a recognition, but he has mostly likely ruined by announcing it to the world, therefore the Russians will mostly likely go visit PNG by the end of the year and get them to "change their minds".
He should keep things secret then claim credit for it after they have recognised.

Yaroslav

Hightly unreliable source. Since,
a. the man is not a government official,
b. no Guinean official has recognized,
c. states do not like politicians leaking things like this (expect a delay in recognition if any)
d. The same party also claimed to have secured Libyan, Salvadorian recognition only too have this denied by these countries the next day. The party also claimed things like aftern the OAS meetign the next day Pacolli will secure 12 recognitions. Essentially they lie.

DimTuc

Let's just see if it actually happens or not before commenting too much - in the past Pacolli has claimed that El Salvador, Libya and I think East Timor had recognised or were about to. Noone heard anything again.

Where did he come from anyway, and where did he get his big packet of dollars from?

Pacolli is an idiot. Why has he announced it before they actually complete the recognition? Now we are going to have Serbian and Russian diplomats telling and threatening PNG not to recognise. He doesn't lobby for the sake of Kosovo, but for the sake of his status and own personnel political gains.
(Ian, UK, 22 December 2009 13:00)

Could not have said it better. Just becouse he is a multi-milioner, it does not mean he is a politician. Actually,he is a true idiot. He actually restored Kremlin to its original form/shape (badly damaged during fallof soviet union) after the fall of USSR,and got paid close to billion dollars.

peter, sydney

Am not particularily surprised at this report especially given the source. For instance, MP's buying votes is common practice in PNG.

Is also speculation the price tag for russian 'lobbying' in Nauru was some 50M & that results of same may or may not include de-recognition of so-called 'republic of Kosovo' http://www.balkaninsight.com/en/main/news/24525

Oh well, at least this practice is keeping the economies of these little islands above water.

Pity the same thing can't be said about the islands themselves.
