Editor I would appreciate it if you would not publish such statements that do not comment the topic (mine included) - particularly as this 'allegation' is false.

“the 10 million or so Russians he killed”

To be exact those were some 890 000 during his last 17 years since 1936 till 1953. These figures include also all the criminals and military criminals during WW2. So next time please use more reliable sources when you teach us what to do.

Cheers !

Yaroslav,

I don't care about the Economist or any other publication. You get your information from the press because you don't have any other source.

I get my information from well informed people in Brussels.

What's this
No objections to all this positive movements toward EU candidacy, just wondering who is giving in..Serbia or EU??
cheers

albboy,

I believe you have the right and healthy attitude. It radiates positive feeling. And about your wondering: let's hope both of them give in somewhere, so that all could gain everywhere. That's called a reasonable, fruitful compromise, the basis for the co-existence of individuals, tribes, clans, nations...

mircea,

In case your deep throats won't object, please, continue to tell us what they sing of in Brussels. Although I personally know folks like Olli Rehn, I mostly must rely on the press.

*** Rasmundsen has openly declined Medvedev’s Security Plan for Europe and let us know that they are going to solve the problems only under NATO umbrella.
Ect. ect. ect.
(Hand of Moscow, 20 December 2009 17:24)

Governments work more in secret than transparently. What Rasmundsen says in public and what happens behind closed doors are two very different things. It would be an extreme shock for NATO to openly agree with any of Moscow’s proposals because this would be done only if they were on the verge of collapse, but they have not reached that stage yet.
What is also interesting is the NATO has gone to the Russians to ask for help in Afghanistan – their arch enemy; the doctrine has not changed even with the collapse of the Soviet Union. Considering that the US only a few years ago refused to even ask them on security issues means that there has been a huge turnaround in the geopolitical situation. NATO has proven to be just as useless as the old Warsaw Pact; great in theory, but in affective in practice.
The information coming out of Brussels is that the Russians have put a proposal to Rasmundsen, but it may be too high a price to pay so NATO will continue to limp on until finally put out of its misery.

By the way, congratulations Serbia.

Sure you do. If that were true wouldn't you have stated you knew this three weeks ago or at least before The Economist published.

Oh wait you didn't. I recommend you quit your day job -- spending all your time on here going, "Who will be next to join?" like a puppet.

Congrats to Serbia, I wish you well, and I have to agree with Mike -- I'm not sure how or why the US Government would have a role in this decision. Perhaps Mircea can enlighten us through her contacts...

Does anyone doubt that Serbia is being accelerated into the EU? The clock is ticking.
(Zoran, 20 December 2009 10:56)
Very true, and is there anyone with a brain cell that thinks it will happen without resolution of the status of Kosovo?
While many may say never without Kosovo now, the plan is to find out what they say when the door is open and there is only one thing to do before stepping inside.

"That means that USA gave Jeremic the OK to do this. US never loses, at least not against such opponents" (aRTa)

-- No, we tend to lose to smaller, more insignificant states in the world like Vietnam, Somalia, Cuba, Venezuela, Afghanistan, Iran, North Korea, Russia, and China.

Thanks once again for keeping an exaggerated faith in my country's global reach, particularly in international organizations for which it is not a member. I should certainly be flattered you think the way you do, but I've got a hunch the US neither agreed to anything, or really cares what Serbia does or doesn't do with the EU.

Lol. At this Mircaea character. He has no sources, if he knew this two weeks ago it means he read in the Economist magazine form England which said this two weeks ago.

Lol. If he actually had sources and wasn't reading it from a magazine that often gets this information correct he wouldn't be spending his time on the internet going "Who will join next?" like the host of a third rate American talk show host.

It’s really great that Serbs need no more visas to go outside ! It’s great that Tadich goes to Stockholm with the EU candidacy apply ! Guess Serb phobia will lower in Europe and Serbia will have good Holidays this year ! The closer ties Serbia establishes with Russia the sooner they will give you a positive reply you are seeking.

I believe together we can tribute to the positive processes we are witnessing. What if we all stop blaming and teasing each other and start to think together of the ways out ? Yes events of the last are too sensitive for you so why not talk of something that will unite us ?

*** For instance today it’s the KGB ( now FSB , FSO & SVR ) day where Medvedev delievered a speech.

*** Another news was last week when ex-Minister of sport and 51 year old Olimpic ,World and Stanley Cups winner Viacheslav Krutov started to play in the Continental league regular championship.

*** Today In Georgia Saakashvili has blown up the Memorial for 200 000 Georgians killed on the fronts of WW2

*** Tomorrow Russia will mark 130 anniversary of Joseph Stalin whom most Russians believe to be the most outstanding man in our history. Moreover yesterday for the first time in the history the Russian RTR TV said that Stalin was not a Georgian but an Ossetian by origin … a news that is a news only outside of the Caucasus.

*** Very important meeting was held in Kazakhstan yesterday where the details of the new Custom Unity were approved.

*** The Americans say that they have some 100 Al Qaeda guerillas in Afghanistan and they close their eyes at the increasing confrontation between the Talibans and Al Qaeda cause then it will be hard to explain what the Hell they are doing in that far away country. So the US Generals publish their reports in Mass Media and thus they deprive Obama of any maneuver in the withdrawal matters.

*** Rasmundsen has openly declined Medvedev’s Security Plan for Europe and let us know that they are going to solve the problems only under NATO umbrella.

My contacts told me this date two weeks ago and yesterday it was confirmed.

Mircea, this is taken from the BBC today regarding Serbia's visa free access.
--
Although Bulgaria and Romania are not yet in Schengen they do have visa-free arrangements with the EU, so they will also ease the travel rules for their Balkan neighbours, if they have not already done so unilaterally.
--
According to my contact at the Romanian embassy, Serbians can already travel to Romania visa free so long as they have the new biometric passports.
