Just because I posted THIS weekend, doesn't mean my interest is confined to weekends and since I've been reading every ex-YU newspaper since 2000, I know more than you plus the fact that you're unethical enough to label me here as a part-time novice when I mentioned earlier that I'd been reading the papers for a decade, discredits you big time. Politicians EVERYWHERE are seen as 'corrupt', its a matter of degree & the word is thrown around, naive novices grasp for it demanding mini-revolutions.

highduke your weekend interest in Serbian affairs means you know little about whats going on.

Kostunica has been continually losing support since he has drifted rightwards. His party planners mistakenly tried to use the science of politics - they estimated that Tadic had taken the centre ground and that only by shifting the party rightwards could they pick up new votes.

What they forgot was that hard right (and hard left) wingers are notoriously stubborn in their voting patterns. Those who will vote for different parties are at the centre of the political spectrum. That political analysis existed in Serbia, although DSS 'experts' ignored it.

Now they are suffering the consequences and additionally SRS made DSS suffer by giving them (both) a rival in SNS.

The stupidity of ultra right wing politics in the Balkans never ceases to amaze me. They either shoot themselves in the foot or they try policies to bring the whole country to its knees.

highduke you may be happy with the corrupt party political system in Serbia but most Serbians are not. They know that all parties are crooked - some more than others.

Thats why I would support the establishment of a new party to kick out the incompetent elite and to drag parties like yours by its bootstraps into the 21st century.

As a non-Serb, I don't wish to interfere in internal Serbian politics. (God knows, there has been enough external interference over the years}.

I only ask that any forthcoming election would be free and fair and not like the last one. The dogs in the streets of Europe know well how 'the EU Elite' meddled and tampered with the last election in order to achieve the outcome it wanted.
It was disgraceful conduct on the part of the EU.

Leaving just who to buy Chinese exports? The Chinese domestic market still isn't big enough to replace EU + US. And if the US decided to devalue the dollar, there goes China's savings account. Besides, the Chinese didn't last this long by indulging in childish tantrums - they're playing a long game.

Kostunica miscalculated by propping up DS for 6 years and realized the opposition was right and joined them. That's a fact. However you want to rationalize it - hey, whateva. That means he's lost credibility & 93% of Serbs agree with me. You're the guy who once said that Serbia needs a new political party, as if we didnt have enough already. OH YEAH - listen to bganon.

'Kostunica kept DS in power 5 years, demonized SRS'

Highduke that is absolute rubbish. DSS followed a policy of equidistance between DS and DSS for many years. Further, DSS moved towards SRS in the past few years by abandoning euqidistance policy (to the dismay of moderates in DSS) and instead only attacking DS. You can see this clearly in the last election when all parties (except SRS) and the media called on DSS to make a criticism of SRS - DSS refused.

Considering that DSS was your last election ally I think your attacks on them shows your desperation for votes. If your lot were smart they would have moderated and prevented Nikolic / SNS breaking away.

Now you are arguing over a few percentage points you can get from a party with support of around 5%.

How the mighty have fallen.

Kostunica needs to realize that Tadic is in power because of him, that he could've gotten rid of DS in 05 but his own miscalculations had him side with DS against SRS. He now knows he was wrong & claims DS is ruining the country. Well when you miscalculate that badly, its time to leave politics. Kostunica kept DS in power 5 years, demonized SRS, now DS is evil & when DS DIDNT need him, he left. He's incompetent.

What will happen if Serbs elect a government of their (and not €USSR/USA)own choosing? a socialist government abandoning neo-liberal IMF policies? New sanctions? No €U?(thank god) Or even another round of war against the serbs?

Highly unlikely, the empire are in disarray and bancrupt. Brasil & China is about to stop funding IMF, and with money to lend for draconian conditions and "regime change", the air is going to pop out of the much inflated neo-colonial bag...
