Dutch moral high ground? The Dutch are making this fuss precisely because they did not behave appropriately in Srebrenica and are still ashamed of their inaction.

That said, that does not make them wrong to insist that Mladic be made answerable.

He should face his accusers. The most honourable route (if there is such a thing) would be for him to go to the court himself.

> Serbia was not found guilty of the "genocide" in Bosnia.

Before making rash statements based on Wikipedia, it would be better to read what the International Court of Justice actually stated in its judgment, which you can read here -

In its judgment, the International Court of Justice rules that genocide was in fact committed at Srebrenica, and that, while the Court found that Serbia did not directly commit that genocide, the Court

- Finds that Serbia has violated the obligation to prevent genocide, under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, in respect of the genocide that occurred in Srebrenica in July 1995;

- Finds that Serbia has violated its obligations under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide by having failed to transfer Ratko Mladić, indicted for genocide and complicity in genocide, for trial by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, and thus having failed fully to co-operate with that Tribunal;

- Finds that Serbia has violated its obligation to comply with the provisional measures ordered by the Court on 8 April and 13 September 1993 in this case, inasmuch as it failed to take all measures within its power to prevent genocide in Srebrenica in July 1995;

- Decides that Serbia shall immediately take effective steps to ensure full compliance with its obligation under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide to punish acts of genocide as defined by Article II of the Convention, or any of the other acts proscribed by Article III of the Convention, and to transfer individuals accused of genocide or any of those other acts for trial by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, and to co-operate fully with that Tribunal;

Why does he still get a pension from Serbia then? (Now the pension is in escrow but he gets it every month)
(Busted, 10 December 2009 22:03)

Interesting. How do you know all this? If he is getting his pension he must be collecting it. Perhaps they can make a trap the next time he collects his pension cheque and grab him. What do you think?

:Brian, perhaps the Dutch think that Serbia had a hand in the genocide that occurred in Bosnia. That is in breach of international law according to the Convention on Genocide, which among other things calls for states to punish perpetrators of genocide. I don't know, I'm just throwing it out there.

Ptoleme,

Serbia was not found guilty of the "genocide" in Bosnia.

The problem is that this case was against Serbia and Montenegro, but for some reason you never hear anything about Montenegro's responsibility. How would you call the dead people in Iraq after the US invasion that was based on lies? Should GWB be in jail because of this and his role as supreme commander of the US army?

I don't understand this. He was a Bosnian Serb war criminal not a Serbian Serbian war criminal. Why is Serbia responsible for him at all!?!

"Watch this Dutch, Maxime Verhagen, eat his words in the next 12 months. Instead of keeping quiet and hoping that the world will forget the Dutch moral high ground; no this guy makes a point of making Holland look like and absolute fool."

Couldn't agree more.

How can Serbia be responsible for catching someone who hides somewhere on this big planet ? Besides nobody knows if Mladic is really alive or not. Why not demand Bin Laden from the USA or Doku Umarov from Russia or Dalai Lama from China ?
