The only reason unemployment is lower in Kosovo is because the Albanians are leaving in droves. All countries in this world are borrowing to keep their economies moving – Australia, UK, the EU, Japan (its borrowings are around 200% GDP), Canada and everywhere else. Yes in Serbia the medium wage is 150 Euros per month and yes life is not that easy for Serbs in Serbia and I have never disputed these facts.
I don’t have to visit the place at all, after working for many years in the inner circles of a western Government I understand fluently their double talk. On many occasions I have had to defended the indefensible and was quite are of that fact. I would be asked by family and friends questions on particular issues and I could not tell them the truth because of my employment. So I think my experiences are a little broader that yours.
I don’t put people down but I suggest you guys stop making wild statements about a Kosovo army – Kosovo is an impoverished region and it’s financially unsustainable and without EU funding it would collapse.
As far as Albanians not wishing to live in Serbia, well pack up and leave because Kosovo is ours – we have shed enough blood on those fields to claim it. Our Churches and other medieval structure are littered thorough Kosovo. The only structures other than ours belong to the Turks. Albanians were in Kosovo, but the majority that live today are refugees from Albania during the Communist era or Albanians that came straight after 1999 hoping for the US to throw plies of cash.

Zoran asks "Come my friend, what does Kosovo have today? "

Well, many miles of new roads and bridges, new schools, and a population whose growth has slowed to just over replacement level (2.2 children per woman). This means that there will soon be a sudden end to the previous constant pressure to provide for an ever-increasing number of children and to find jobs for the young people coming onto the market every year. When this has happened in other parts of the world (Asia, Ireland) the economy suddenly took off - it's almost automatic. So what Kosovo has today is only only a small part of what it can expect in the not-too distant future.

Zoran

pre 14 godina

To the contrary Zoran, what Kosovo has today is far better than anything Serbia can possibly offer.
(pss, 11 December 2009 02:22)

Come my friend, what does Kosovo have today? It is certainly not independent and it is probably more than autonomous. So basically, you have less that what Serbia is offering and anything that could make you a state is irreversibly blocked on many levels.

What Serbia can offer my friends is peace and prosperity and that is the essence of your rejection. The US cannot deliver anything more than what Serbia is prepared to offer.

Guys, the geopolitical balance can change very quickly and I would be worried if I was an Albanian because the financial mess within the US could cause internal unrest. Remember, the weakest are normally last to join.

Ha, Ha, so you think this has gone according to a plan. What plan is that???? The EU is running out of money and that is the reason they are reducing their so called troops. The Kosovo army, I can’t stop laughing.

(sj, 10 December 2009 12:02)

SJ nothing to laugh about unemployment in Kosovo but its still lower then it was in 1990s.

SJ, I have stated to you before that Serbia is stretching it thin with public sector hence taking huge loans to keep people in gov jobs paying no more than 150Euro.

Many here talk about glass houses so why do you through rocks when Serbia it self its suffering.

Maybe to some that never or have not been since 1990s they will think differently I make frequent trips there speaking with Dep. of Energy and I tell you they speak different tune you do.

Putting people down does not change the fact that K-Albanians do not want to live in Serbia, this should show you their determination that no metter how hard they would not want to be under Serbia.

Zoran

I can assure you that even if no Nato soldier remains in Kosovo, and even if no Kosovo Army is ever built, not one single Serb soldier will ever enter Kosovo. Why is that you ask? My friend, these days defense is not about how many soldiers you have...it's about what friends you are associated with. At least that is the case for small countries like Serbia, Macedonia, Albania, Montenegro, and every other tiny country in the world. It's all about being in one camp or the other, and when some hothead like Iraq's Saddam thinks he is tough, well....he got hanged. You get my drift? So let's say that NATO withdraws tomorrow, and now you have 2 million Albanians in Kosovo, with no army. And let's say that a platoon of Serb soldiers come rushing in yelling "We are back". You know what will happen? A phone call will be made from Washington, to Moscow. A phone call will be made from Moscow to Belgrade. A phone call will be made from Belgrade back to Washington, and soon that Platoon will be rushing back out of Kosovo. That's all. Today wars are fought behind closed doors in offices. The only wars fought are when you have some ragheads like the Taliban that have no country, or someone like Saddam.

Zoran,
I'm trying to understand some of your comments, but i really don't get them. Are you really serious when you talk about autonomy (less or more). Do you really believe that there is a one single Albanian that will accept that? if you do, than can you explain it how could that possibly happen, cause my imagination cant go that far.

As long as 1244 is in effect it will be protected by NATO and troop increases are as easy as decreases so do not expect to be crossing the border in tanks within this life time.

I just got back to Canada form Kosova and I've seen with my own eyes that actually KFOR doesn't need to be there at all. KPS cares for all the security in Kosova. I'm pretty sure that by 2015 there will not be any KFOR soldier in Kosova because situation on the ground speaks for itself.
However I hope that the American peacekeepers never leave because they're the most welcomed people in there.

This is a sign of stabilty in Kosovo. Any security issues should be delt with by the Kosovo Police, EULEX and the Kosovo Security Force. A small NATO base is needed for back up and a last resort.
At end of the day, Kosovo is under no threat at all.

THank you NATO. We must be lucky that we are provided security until we deed necessary. Yesterday it was announced that Kosovo army will increase from 2500 to 3300 soldiers...which in other words will be replacing NATO troops. In about 5 years this trend will continue where Nato troops will be reduced to 3000, whereas Kosovo army will enlarge to 10,000 and get professional.

EVERYTHING is going according to plan.

We thank NATO again for assisting us on liberation of the country, peace and freedom.
