"Time for Belgrade to apply for EU"

The time has come for Belgrade to apply for EU membership, and the application should be submitted "before Christmas", Italy's FM Franco Frattini says.

I tend to give the guy a break tough. A large part of his family was killed during the civil war (that makes his bitterness understandable).

And who not just talks from a safe distance - but ACTUALLY RETURNS to his place of origin does deserve some respect.

After being in the States for over 15 years: do you think I am not pulling my hair piece-by-piece every day looking at what some bozos (called "politicians") in Hungary / Serbia / etc are doing "for" their countries? Even if many things in the States are pretty sick, that Balkan mentality is a killer.

We can talk Kosov@ here, EU there.... but once anyone in the large area who is close to the steering wheel begins to talk stuff like economics, science, IT, infrastructure - there I want to vomit and wish, I am back to USA.

Don't worry, I change my mind on that quickly - but I fully understand some of the difficulties Kosovo-USA has to go through.

To tell somewhat encouraging: regardless of the rampant corruption if it's about some serious R&D work - there Russia (likewise: India, China) is way ahead of most of EU. No wonder, the once proud EU citizens of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania apply now for... Russian working and residence permits: jobs (we can write Jobs also with capital letters, like Steve) are either in the East or over the Atlantic. True, Russia does not pay as much as Silicon Valley, but it's closer. And get a job from Jobs is much more tough.

According to my sources, Serbia will submit the application for EU candidacy on 22 December.

Oh, boy... if eagles with two heads are more cautious than ones with only one head - they will wait.

See, Gandaberunda of India is soooo similar. Wish Serbia and other places with similar eagles be as leading in hi-tech as India is.

And EU can wait. For myself, I fail to see a single advantage of Hungary being in EU.

- Part of Schengen? Norway and Switzerland is.
- Having Euro instead of some Disneyland currency? Much smaller CG and KiM have it. But not sure it's 100% beneficial.

However, EU was good for these ex-Commie Comrades and Fat Cats becoming more fat. Hungary by no means is less corrupt than Serbia, Bulgaria or Romania - you guys are just more clumsy to hide it. Hungarians are more "politically correct", that's it. Now it's the pay-back time here.

I can't wait till these "comrades" go away in April of 2010, but unfortunately what is coming is an other disaster, for a different reason (Orbán & co.)

Could you give us a hint of the identity of your sources? I am very curious how a person whose comments get the most "poor comment" ratings of almost any poster here (although Kosovo-USA is also at the top) has such important connections at the EU.
