i do feel bad for individual journalists of integrity, of course, and always wish them well.

as for the "progressive" role of b-92, i reserve my comments.

Zoran why are you are getting so hot under the collar about members of political parties and their allegations / counter allegations. Its not as if B92 didn't report on this.

I don't there is anything controversial about saying that violence and threats are not acceptible from anyone. Surely everybody agrees with that.

Besides most of us know what forms of pressure B92 faced throughout the 90's, whether it was from the elected government, private individuals or criminals.

“it's disgusting and awful to see threads against indepenend journalists happening in a European democratic country… (Top, 7 December 2009 12:35)”

Oddly enough, Democratic countries like the US are the first to bomb reporters and news outlets they do not agree with. Note the treatment of Al Jazeera reporters and facilities. They’ve been bombed in all the countries US troops are stationed “accidently” and their reporters are arrested under flimsy pretences and held for extensive periods of time merely for doing their job. Let’s not forget the bombing of RTS either.

However, that’s State Sponsored Terrorism towards independent journalists. B92 is discussing something different, no one is claiming Tadic is going after them.

Now that being said, B92 has had a rough existence and their reporters are extremely brave. They do need protection. I highly recommend “Guerilla Radio” by Matthew Collin (especially to you Zoran). I have a lot of friends who were students during the Milosevic era, but I found the book highly insightful. Zoran, as with everything in the Balkans, its not all Black & White. Do you recall Optor coming out in droves with little target signs on their heads waiting on bridges for the American bombs to fall in opposition to the NATO bombing over Kosovo? Yeah Zoran, your hated Optor – those Western stooges – put their very lives in danger because they love Kosovo as much as you or I. I know those guys, maybe some of them were a little naïve about Western Capitalism but they aren’t brainwashed morons. Should some of them see jail time for burning parliament? I agree with that, and if that was planned at the highest levels of Optor, then yeah, it should have been disbanded, but it doesn’t exist anymore anyways.

You seem to be confusing the actions of members of a group with the actions of a group itself. There is a BIG difference.

We’ve had many similar types of incidents here in the US from our far right groups.

I won’t go into the terrible events of the Civil Rights Era, but suffice to say, just advocating the right for an African American to sit at the front of the bus was enough to get you killed in the South.

Even now far right groups attack Abortion facilities and doctors. With the rise of far right extremist News Channels (ie FoxNews) its only a matter of time until their supporters start attacking the other news stations.

That being said, I do not advocate banning any groups, UNLESS they engage in some sort of criminal activity.

However, the existing laws should be used to crack down HARD. If laws need to be crafted, make more laws that deal with organized crime in general, those are laws that need help in Serbia.

Now if only B92 wouldn’t censor me when I criticize Western Capitalism or claim the Montenegrin people (My people) are related to the Serbian people. However, that being said, B92 do a very good job attempting to be non-bias and should be applauded considering they come from a country with no history of free speech and what all that means. Europe in general lacks a solid understanding of Free Speech.

Unbelievable that some people dare to say something about other countries or even take the NATO bombing in this discussion. When I was in Belgrade I found it always one of the most hospital cities i was in, likewise my children who went freely to discos and came home, safe, in the middle of the night. But indeed B92 has (finally) searched indepth what is really going on and who of the so-called football fans are actually pure criminals. It is a brave act from the channel and I hope that all people involved will be able to go home safely again. If the B92 journalist would like to have more info please don't hesitate to ask me by mail as I have enough (not detailed) information about those hooligans

B92,

I really admire you for your mission to enable everyone to express his/her opinion regarding any political issue.
Those who threat you are nothing more but cowards and short-sighted individual with no real prospect to succeed in their attempts.
B92,
You are a very useful sourse of information for everyone who wants to read and listen to others on political issues.
Please crack on doing what you have been doing in your mission.
Sometimes you have upset individual including myself by not publishing in full my comments but BUT I do know it has been not bad intention to it. So good luck in your flawless work)))

@KOSOVA USA

Your comparison listing of democracies like Serbia inspired me to ask you a very simple question:
- How do you justify the 1999 NATO bombing of Serbian national TV and how do you qualify the democracy of the countries that participated in this murderous act?
Thank you for your answer in advance.

Threats and even physical attacks against journalists are intolerable in a democratic society. B92 has my admiration for continuing to operate in the face of such pressure.

Attacks on B92 and threats made against the authors of B92 TV's Insajder investigative program have become more intense and brutal and they have not subsided even after President Boris Tadić reacted on Sunday to announce that the state would not tolerate violence coming from hooligans and criminals.
--
Will he tolerate violence coming from LDP activists? Are they considered hooligans and criminals after it is alleged that 14 of them attacked two SRS activists in Vozdovac?

We should not tolerate violence, period! When you add "from hooligans and criminals" at the end, you are starting to politicise it, especially after B92 has associated "hooligans" with the opposition, even though Optor were involved in hooliganism and many former members are now in the DS.

Violence and threats are not acceptable from anyone, not just hooligans and criminals.

European democratic country like Serbia!

At least the Serbian president strongly condemns it!
(Top, 7 December 2009 12:35)

Serbian democracy=Russian democracy/China,Venezuela/North Korea,etc...

Matic shoulddo everything possible to expose Serbian govermant for what it is, despite the threats.
