Given that Serbia has suffered the most in the region from this financial crisis, it's fair to question the financial competency of the people who are leading it. These headlines from B92 are not a good sign where Serbia is heading financially.

C. bank: Inflation 7.5 pct in 2009
"2010 budget deficit at 3.5 pct of GDP"
"Russian loan not before 2010"
WB approves Serbia USD 200mn loan

Tadic is just trying to cover his rear because he knows people are becoming weary of these kinds of headlines. What government will say their borrowing was immoral?

'but MOST of it is being used for wages, pensions, and other costs for keeping the populace "happy" in the short-term'

Telling people to go out and get jobs when there are no jobs is simply sadistic. After a couple of generations of communism, Serbia simply doesn't have the habits of entrepreneurship (and it's only a minority in any country that does). The recession is slowing coming to an end, but since the Balkan countries went into recession later than other countries, they'll come out of it later, but they'll still come out of it. There's no need to panic, economic growth and jobs will return - let's just keep everybody going until then. Then everybody can start concentrating on repaying the loans, which in a growing economy won't look so daunting.

NO, Mr. Tadic....let's be truthful. SOME of the money that is being "borrowed" may actually be used for improving Serbian infrastructure (for the future).....but MOST of it is being used for wages, pensions, and other costs for keeping the populace "happy" in the short-term. But in the long-term, you will be crippling future generations because of your selfishness and your opportunism. Here again, you are taking your "cues" from the EU countries that are "broke"- both financially and morally. Doesn't Serbia today and tomorrow deserve to be free- and not indebted to others who want to enslave us? "Easy money" always has a "price" and a purpose....and Serbs need to wake up and demand fiscal independence....not just words and "good intentions" by Mr. Tadic. If you think that the economy is bad now....just wait until your loans become due!
