Actually Hungary is quite cheap to vacation in. In may I bought a round trip train ticket from Budapest to Belgrade, cost? 27 euros. Stayed at the nice apartment hotel AGAPE for 60 euros per night, in the centre of Budapest.
A bath at the loveley outdoor szechenyi didn't cost that much either, but I forgot exactly how much.
I don't know about food prices and salaries, but an ordinary serbian could without problems afford a weekend in Budapest.
Earlier only the visa costs would be more than 100 euros for a couple of two.
Of course serbians aren't going to start to fly to the french riviera en masse, but Hungary, Austria, Bulgaria, Romania and of course Greece will be easily affordable for serbian tourists.

Hold on! One second, please.
My name is Mike; I come from Ireland, an 'EU Country'. (We are a small, insignificant entity on the tit of Europe; an island in the North Atlantic; even though we're not in NATO.

I have been coming to Serbia for the last 11 years without any visa problems. Can somebody please tell me why I cannot bring a Serb home with me to Ireland in the same way in which I can bring an Irish person to Serbia?
It's all a load of 'bollocks' and those horrible, sinister people, who created most of the terrible BALKAN Grief, seem to have got away, (or have they???)

And food prices in Hungary are somewhat lower than in Serbia simply because the net salaries are less.
(Olf, 19 November 2009 17:38)

Yes. And hence with your logic average Hungarians would travel even less, than Serbs because their net salaries are even lower than in Serbia.

- Exactly, life is more expensive in Serbia, at the end of the month what would a Serbian employed person be left with. Not that much to travel to expensive EU I guess.
- Which category of people of Serbia would be travelling? Not majority students for sure, the ones that would accept travelling by trains, nor pensioners and housewife’s, since they all have no money to live in Serbia nevermind travelling to EU expensive cities.
- What is left here is the wealthy ones and the ones that have someone abroad that could be paying for their expenses.

In order not to be misunderstood by some radical Serbs posters in here I would like to say that I’m glad that Serbian people have no visa issue with Schengen countries. However, nothing would take away my worries that together with ordinary Serbs war criminal would flood EU, unfortunately

Good for people of Serbia that have the means to see very expensive EU cities.

Every single calculation I have does prove, it's cheaper to be a tourist in Germany than in Hungary. And food prices in Hungary are somewhat lower than in Serbia simply because the net salaries are less.

Wine in Hungary is three times cheaper than in Serbia and 1.5 times cheaper than in Germany but beer is about twice as expensive than in Serbia, Slovakia or Germany.

Unlimited Serbia-Hungary-Austria-Germany train ticket is about 220 Euro for one month, it's called "CITY-STAR". From Hungary it's 175 Euro because the distance is less. Going by small group will halve the above price for 2-5 person and own children till 16 travel for free.

The gas in Germany is about 10-15% more than in Serbia, in Hungary it's about 10% less.

In any case who can afford to travel within Serbia, can afford to travel to Central Europe + Germany + East Europe. Scandinavia costs more, UK even more.

But I think, the majority will go to Greece, Bulgaria, Germany, Austria, Italy (and everything in-between).

What is not there yet is any kind of mass tourism to USA. Even that American visas are not difficult to get and Europeans don't even need visas. Just people not necessarily like the attitude and to tell the truth, given two choices: fly to USA or fly to Thailand I would chose TH because it's more attractive to a tourist.

Great news for Serbia. I fully support this idea of open borders and the freedom to travel. All Serbians, whether from Republika Srpska or Serbia proper (including Kosovo) can see most of the EU.

Olf, I sense some jealousy coming from you. It doesn't have to cost much to travel and I'm sure there will be many affordable bus trips organised for Serbians. They can see these "expensive" cities without staying in them or spending too much and there are many cities in the EU that are just as expensive as Belgrade or even cheaper.

Also, since we have lots of Serbians living within the EU, having family and friends staying with them is another option.

I'm afraid to say that our ethnic Albanian citizens have excluded themselves for any such privilege even though they are eligible as Serbian citizens.

given away to Serbia and it is all part of a bargain.
Standards for getting isa liberation are lowered too much.

Of course, what else comment could we expect from you...
Hard to digest but take the bright side you will have less candles to burn for this not to happen for Serbian people...

I'll have the pleasure to welcome some of my friends immediately after the release of visas and really looking forward to it!!

As for the conditions, we all know that Visa liberation was given away to Serbia and it is all part of a bargain.
