I hope the Holy Father is welcomed to Serbia. There are many Catholics in Serbia who would dearly love to see him there. Whatever has happened in the past should remain there. When that has happened, Serbia will finally have moved on.

Yes, Tadic should invite the Pope to Serbia. The Vatican does not recognize Kosovo independence. There are quite a number of Christian Catholics living in Kosovo although the majority of Christians in Kosovo are Serbian Orthodox. And there are lots of Muslims in Kosovo who do not desire friendly relations with Christians. Tadic and the Pope have much in common regarding Kosovo and such a meeting should emphasize these common bonds.

MIke, I mean when Italian president invites them not the religious instituion.

The Albanians here are asking why hasn't Tadic invited the Pope to Serbia and my answer was that the Pope is welcome if the Catholics in Serbia want him to come but it has nothing to do with Tadic.

So when our patriach is invited by the president of Italy then Tadic should invite the Pope.

Perhaps I wasn't clear on that one. I know that religious leaders travel to other countries but they are invited by religious institutions not politicians.

why not? plus a vodoo-priest and a magician, a hand-reading gipsy woman.

would the pope come with this croatian scum that a few weeks ago spitted on the holocaust-victims in the former kz jasenovac and the "musician" thomson, or would he come alone ???

i mean it´s great that the oldest pseudo-christian church is heading to her 1000st birthday, but somehow i still don´t get the euphoria of our pro-eu-"serbs" because of this "event" and darkest point of european and christian civilization ...

ATM---Why is the pope not welcomed?

It's not so much that the pope is not welcomed, it's that every time he travels he brings a large entourage and motorcade with him---so, it's children by the hand.I also don't like his red color shoes.

"Perhaps when Italy invited one of Orthodox patriachs we can change that. I think it will never happen. (Peggy)"

-- Actually Peggy, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew frequently visits Italy, both to the Orthodox in the country, and to attend numerous conferences with the Vatican. A few years ago he actually visited the church of San Vitale in Ravenna and administered an Orthodox Liturgy there - something that had not been seen or heard in that church for over 900 years! It caused a bit of a stir among more intransigent members of the Catholic Church (dear God, the pope is giving back stuff we took), and Orthodox (dear God, the Patriarch celebrated Liturgy with Catholics!) He's also frequently seen in Venice too.

Cool it everybody! Relations have to be repaired in order to go forward. I am not sure, but I think Russian church was invited in the past. We thank Pope for respecting serbian soverinity, and he is velcome to Serbia. Lets learn about each other more and lets heel the waunds once and for all.

If it’s ignorance then the answer to your question is WW2.

Conditions of entry:

1. Admit that the Church was at minimum covertly supporting the Ustashi movement;

2. Huge dump on Croats for their part of murdering Serbs, gypsies and jews during WW2;

3. full and total apology from the Catholic Church.

Then and only then can he visit Belgrade.

when the pope apologizes for aiding and promoting the genocide of serbs during WW2 and when he recognizes our church on equal standing as the catholic church,then he can come to serbia's border.

Peggy

The Catholic church in Serbia should invite the pope if they want to have him there. What has this got to do with any politician?

Politicians invite other politicians but religious institutions invite their leaders. I'm sure Serbia would not block him from entering if he wished to come.

Perhaps when Italy invited one of Orthodox patriachs we can change that. I think it will never happen. I don't expect Italian president to worry about invitations to religious leaders.

Better that Tadic invites the Patriarch of Constantinople:

1. Just as European
2. Religious similarities
3. Less politically explosive

As long as the Pope brings all the Ustashe gold hidden in the Vatican bank he's welcome to come.

Otherwise, they still have a LOT of explaining to do about WWII.
