"They lied. This was political. Meant to get votes to the pro-EU block. DS should just tell people what a G17 Plus sham this was and kick them out of government."

Well the Serbian people keep voting for this government - keep falling for their threats and promises every time and forgetting all their shortcomings at vote time.

Why aren't the people protesting this government for all its economic mistakes?

I think Fiat have realised, with the quality of the workmanship in Zastava, any cars produced their will be completely unsellable in the rest of the world.

No surprise. This deal was led by G17 Plus. They also promised that privatization would bring in 10 times more revenue that happenned, that the extra profit tax would collect some 7 billion DM, that they will create a million jobs in 5 years and that we will receive 1,000 euros in shares per person this year.

Fiat has in the last ten years been bailed out by the Italian government twice, when there was no economic crisis.

They showed more interest in buying parts of Chrystler then investing in Zastava.

Did anyone expect something different? The people who led talks with Fiat rejected agreements with Tata of India, lead the fialed talks with Fiat in 2005, from 2002-2004 considered Malcolm Bricklin a reliable investor and refused to consider any co-operation or talks with other interests (such as Tupljanac and others).

Fiat was and is ALWAYS super very welcome in Serbia.
They already have been invested through the history a lot in Kragujevac factory and we are surely happy to see them back. Always keep a great relations with Serbia-friendly Italians.

We look forward for technical matters of deal to be finalized and wish you warm welcome.

The Fiat deal was always a lie. It has been used time and again to show the Serbian public that the DOS leadership has some influence in the West.

Serbia has zero influence in the West and the only time Western money is invested is when it can get something for nothing (e.g. the Sartid steel works).

B92 should stop misleading the Serbian public with false promises like those coming from Fiat.

Serbia should look for partners from countries that want to do business in Serbia and not with countries that only want to rule Serbia.
