The SAA could have been done and dusted in one form or another a long time ago, it is just that it was not considered in those EU member states interests to give it to Serbia without wringing as many concessions out of Serbia first. The EU talks about 'rule of law' being its primary principle, but they are always flexible over this when it comes to their friends....

AMEN Zoran. I like to see nothing more that USA/EU loosing Serbia to Russia, you can forget China since is to far (different continent).

(Kosova-USA, 31 October 2009 18:23)

That is interesting to know that Russia and China are on different continents. Did you learn this "fact" in one of the excellent private universities here in Kosovo or did you read an Albanian map?

Oh! They will find a solution alright. They’ll scan the document day and night and then find in very small print that they actually have the power to override the Dutch. In the meantime, that what’s his name again, ah yes, Serge Brammertz, will by some miracle find that Serbia is fully cooperating with the Tribunal and give it the legitimacy that the EU clowns require.

The desperation is oozing out of the pores of Hilary Clinton. They are petrified that Russia has a firm foothold in Serbia and they are right in thinking that. In an effort to force Serbs to handover their people to show the might of the west, they created their own complicated barriers and are now in panic to buldoze them to have Serbia in the EU. The EU might try the “good cop, bad cop” routine on Serbia as a last ditch effort by claiming Serbia is on the very brink, but it has to do this or that – all Serbia has to tell the EU to go to hell with its membership and their world collapses.

This is panic diplomatic style extraordinaire! They have their well-paid Serbian politicians as mouthpieces conveying these messages of hope and eternal bliss in joining the EU. However, the hatred towards the west by Serbs is intense so these fifth columist will have their work cut out for them.

The EU is now willing to sign a pact Serbia at any price and I mean any price. What about the Kosovars or Bosniaks you say, well! what about them? they’ll have to live with western treachery just like the Serbs did in the 1990s. The difference is in the 1980s Serbs would have opened the door for Croats, Bosniaks, Albanians etc, to help them, but not now. You’re on your own bros, if you’re not a Serbs they don’t care. How the world has turned in a very short time.

Indeed Zoran.

Even Yellows = Democratic Party officials, leaders...Tadic,Jeremic and plus....in their frequent contacts with EU decision-makers have realized that they cannot get much good from them to sell to Serbian electorate apart of endless line of the new conditions, Serbia have to fulfill, with uncertain end result...
Though they have been initially clearly Western orientated I believe that they decided to switch the side in the interest of Serbia...or at least to play very concisely on two cards...
Can we have greater illustration for that then the fact of opening the Russian base on Serbian soil.

Guess US and some EU leaders are getting very much aware of that now...but it may be too little and too late...first of all they have to persuade political dilettantes Dutch and Verhagen to change their stance and after that they are having too little for bargain: unfreezing of SAA is just about nothing for 8 years of democratic changes in post-Milosevic Serbia.

If Serbia settles happy and enough with visa free deal and free trade agreement, US-EU have lost all the jokers. We don't need them...they need us for sure to fix the Balkans.

Taking initiative...stop fulfilling their conditions, but playing our game...check mat...victory is ours.

Kosovo-USA, as mentioned, Serbia must balance between the EU and Russia. If we lean too far towards Russia those pro-EU forces get stronger and if we lean too far towards the EU the pro-Russian forces get stronger. Russia is just taking advantage of the current division within the EU.

Rick, I have no problem with the current situation. The EU/US needs to relearn some lessons about Serbia. Those kids determining Balkan policy need to graduate one day.

Why don't all these experts talk about the arrest of Mladic, instead of wasting our time with useless speculations. It is so simple, you Serbs do what you should have done long time ago, and the day after the SAA is fully implemented. Just a simple arrest, and the problem is solved.

The way I see it now, the EU and US are slowly losing Serbia in favour of our Eastern partners Russia and China. The EU/US have put up too many obstacles and barriers that it is probably regretting now. It can't undo it's own knot.

That will teach the school children determining EU/US Balkan policy.

It worls for Kosova if really and trully Serbia sticks with mother Russia.Serbia will be doomed for eternity.

Very inciteful comment Zoran. But, actually, these unending conditions have been a blessing to Serbia's status and sovereigny.....and I hope that it continues. Everyday, Serbs are becoming more and more disillusioned with Brussel's/Washington's games. And in reality, Holland is basing their stance on sheer political fantasy- Srebrenica is quickly becoming known as a hoax- yes, part of a terrible war, but nowhere near the 8000 "innocent deaths". It's just part of the West's actions to "simplify and prove" that the Serbs were responsible for all atrocities. When is the real and rational world to wake up???

Time to scrape the barrel to keep this issue alive.

If you want my opinion, even though Russia publicly states it wants Serbia within the EU, I somehow don't think it really does.

Russia would much prefer Serbia to be under its influence than the EU's - even though Serbia must balance between the two.

Now how could Russia prevent or delay Serbia's membership? Simply by hosting Mladic on its territory and whispering in the ear of Holland that Mladic is still in Serbia.

Russia has recently benefited tremendously by the EU's division - by winning infrastructure and loan agreements with Serbia while also laying the foundations for a base.
