Hey Serbophobe Lenard, do you know why 55% + 1 was chosen. To have a defintiive result given political maniupulation.
1. Various groups were barred form voting (Montenegrin citizens in Serbia, returning students).
2. The ocnstiution was violated, non-residents were allowed to vote (so long as theyh weren't in Serbia).
3. Cases of bribery, inclujding video tape evidence.
4. Barring refugees to vote.
It was determined that 55% + 1 would assure a definitive reuslt, the EU agreed. [Also, this was what Djukanovic proposed and was insisted by LSCG (Liberal Alliance of Montenegro) -- the only consistently pro-independence party in Montenegro).

Yaroslav: Are you serious the Serbs demanded of Montenegro that 50%+1 vote was not enough for independence. It was demanded by Belgrade also Serbs living in Montenegro to be at 55%+1 for independence. The Montenegrins agreed to the Serb bulling to avert what the horrendous things Serbs are well capable off. As was shown in the rest of the region were Serbs are minority of their destructive tendency in those other Republics. The only reason brutality did not happen in Montenegro by Serbs is that period NATO was now all over the ex Yugo with troops. They would of jumped all over Serbia and Serbs if they tried that again by murderous brutality to rearrange things by force.

It depends on what you mean by stirring up trouble.
The Serbs in Montenegro wanted to remain in the federation with Serbia. But a narrow majority of Montenegrins voted against that.
If to have an opinion is stirring up trouble then I'm the worst stirrer out there.
But I will agree with you that the Serb side in Montenegro made huge mistakes and they are suffering the consequences of being outsmarted and outplayed by Milo and his cronies.
I must admit had I been a leader of Serb party in Montenegro I would have acted very differently - even allowing Medojevic the number one spot. That was the only way Serbs in Montenegro could have outflanked Djukanovic - although more hardline Serbs would see this as a sell out.

Lenard, how did Serbs try to derail independence?
Did Serbs cause violence, no. Did Serbs recognize the results, yes.
GHow about next time you don't lie? Albanian sa re the trouble for Montenegro?

bganon: It looks like hoopla over nothing but the Serbs in Montenegro like to stir up trouble. It was the Serbs who tried to derail Montenegro's independence what is new.

The montengrin opposition is just looking, waiting, for an issue with which they can land effective blows on the government.
Giving land away or the perception of giving land away would not go down well with Montenegrins. It would be in the MG's gvt interest to shelve border issues with Kosovo and Croatia for the time being. That means Ks and Cro will have further favours to call upon.
