Just look at what happened to Cuba when it tried to get Russian military help back in 1962.

there were plenty of hostile actions by the us against cuba before the missile crisis. the us hostility (based on the monroe doctrine) probably pushed cuba far closer to the soviet union than it would have otherwise been the case. let's not rewrite history about pretty much every place in order to make false comparisons to the situation in the balkans, ok.

Serbia is surrounded by NATO countries, so forget about Russia being of any help to Serbia militarily. Just look at what happened to Cuba when it tried to get Russian military help back in 1962. The effects of the blockade are still taking their toll on Cuba and its people. I don't think the Serb people are stupid enough to fall for Russia's "help" and end up like Cuba.

Serbia should concentrate on becoming a member of NATO and the EU. Isn't the last 17 years of misery and suffering enough for the Serb people to endure?

Of course they wont say it but no doubt what the base will be, and why there and why now. Its one of them transformer packs :) It becomes full military installation very quickly when they make infrastructure and logistics the way they will. Very very good news for us.
To say the least another march 2004 or march 2008 pogrom of serbs in kosovo is now not possible. when our albanians get frustrated with the frozen conflict they'll have to start attacking someone else, oh i dont know who. No, russia wont go to war with nato but nato wont go to war with russia either if you know what i mean.

Under the guise of a humanitarian base, the Russians have finally opened a new beach head for Balkan economic, energy, political and possible military influence. With the Americans and some EU countries angry/jealous at the new energy route, the Russians want to safeguard the region from any possible incursions/threats on its now sphere of influence. In the end, watch Serbia's economic and political influence grow louder in the next few years, as it is one of the most important trade routes and now energy gate.

I commented on another story today about the importance of havng a strong Russian presence in Southern Serbia, i.e., military. Of course it would be an civilian presence, but with heavy duty security forces, if you know what I mean? What's good for the goose (America), is certainly good for the gander (Serbia).
