To the people complaining about plea bargains: how many of you would be strong enough to risk a very long-term (likely 15+ years) sentence as a Serb standing before the Hague? Recall that BSA General Radislav Krstic had already been hit with a 35-year sentence in the summer of 2001, the ICTY's first genocide conviction. By the time Plavsic had arrived, one could easily predict how the verdicts would go for people like her, Krajisnik, Mladic, Tolimir, Karadzic, etc. She was already in her early 70s, I believe, at the time of sentencing, so it's even less surprising that she would opt for a deal. To do otherwise would undoubtedly mean spending the rest of her life in prison.
(Nenad, 27 October 2009 16:09)

Let me tell you who;

General Vladimir Lazerevic
General Sretan Lukic
General Nebojsa Pavkovic
General Dragolub Odjanic

They were only guilty of defending Kosovo from the KLA terrorists and the illegal NATO bombing.

Slobodan Milosevic paid with his life and not one shred of proof was found according to published transcripts. What happend in closed camera sessions is something that may never be revealed.

Peggy, you women tend to be so unforgiving.
i think that's exactly why plavsic was so hellbent on going against milosevic. She held a grudge. and was right btw.
But listen seriously, plavsic is low on the traitor list believe me. There's much more good that she did than evil. and there was both.

It will be interesting to see whether she stands by her comments or tries to re-write history now she is out.

If it's the latter then she was clearly in it for herself.

It is possible that she looks back and sees the Crisis Committees, relations with paramilitaries and propaganda assault as an ugly and bloody mistake.

Indeed. I have seen many comments such as this and I have stopped reading his self-righteous rubbish long ago. Seems that most of the people who read his posts are from his camp, so they are free to blow sunshine up each other's tailpipes ad nauseum.

I guess your train of peace is getting emptier day after day.
I was really backing you on that idea but reading your latest comments just makes me sick how bias your judgements are.

Why don't you give the serbs a little break, don't you think that the new generation deserve a bit more than your continuous hatred pooring on this site!!

When are you going to stop blaming all the Serbs for what some criminals did in the past. The world is moving and it's about time for you to move too.

I have no sympathy for all who were one way or the other involved in the decision making of the Balkan war, irrespecive of their nationalities, I have no sympathy for this women showing off like she did today but I also have no sympathy for nationalists of your kind and nationalists of any kind on this site, so pls spare us from your lessons of morality and wipe in front of your conscience first!!

Sure, that kangaroo court in Hauge says they are criminals, but what do they know. They have released real criminals like Haradinaj and Oric so their credibility is zero.

So she cut a deal to get out early.

Sure, betrayal is not new to the Serbs, but they rarely kill each other, unlike their neighbors down south who think nothing of dispatching people they don't like with no fear of being brought to justice.

If we speak of Glavas, please don't forget Tomislav Mercep who the ICTY has still failed to indict. His little men were the ones who went after the serbs in the country side and cities like Vukovar long before the JNA got involved...

How surprising (not) -- plavsic (convicted and unrepentant war criminal) and dodik (opportunistic demagogue) given the VIP treatment in belgrade. and the nationalists condemn her here, NOT for her racism and great responsibility in the genocide (of which she not only was fully aware, but which she personally helped to plan), but for her turning state's evidence. another sad day.

where is that sleepy conscience of serbia that some of us have claimed still exists? perhaps in the few handfuls of intellectuals and good people of conscience. who are sadly in the tiny minority there. and here, on this site.

what about karadzic, who even (the normal members of)the other side admits is a monster? what about mladic, still being coddled in the mother country? where is the outcry? where is the acknowledgment of evil? all of the energies spent on lecturing at our albanian colleagues: how bad they are,how primitive... why bother trying to pretty up, to "lipstick" a pig... and all the other various ethnic slurs, a regular feature, thank you very much.

but for the sins of their people, of their criminals, of their genocide-perpetrators, just silence, or trying always to reroute the conversation any way possible: it was nato, it was Hoxcha, it was tudjman, it was thaci, it was germany... anything to not acknowledge the bitter truth, to get around it, as the families of their victims suffer, in misery.

It is a pity that she will not give further evidence. It is not treachery to give evidence against criminals - it is an act of decency.

The traitors to Serbia were those who killed innocents in its name.

Nationalists who rail against the Hague appear to condone bloody murder - that does not do good for Serbia.

Plavšić at least had the decency to admit her mistakes and serve her time in jail. Better than others who hide away and do not face what they have done.

I only hope that you had half the passion in opposing Tudjman's cooperative war in Bosnia in the 1990's.

Plavšić was one of the key witnesses in the trial of former Republic of Srpska National Parliament Speaker Momčilo Krajišnik who was sentenced to 20 years in prison in March.

Serbs have always been their own worst enemy. Turning on each other when going gets tough.

If media in Serbia focuses its attention on Plavsic one more time after this "arrival day", apart of putting her under the scrutiny of Justice and moral issues, I will be having my brain seriously insulted.

Do we still have to follow the madnesses alla Mirjana Mira Markovic-Milosevic times.
Scary deja vu!

Well said Peggy.

There is no home for her in Bosnia. She will for sure live out her life in Serbia maybe even give get a job with Cedo's gang and speak out against Serbia holding on to Kosovo. There really is no future for this woman.

The Croatians have done much better, but then they have always had their teuton brothers the Germans and the Austrians covering their back...

Tomorrow (or today) one way bus ticket to Tuzla for her.

Serbian Government should issue "persona non grata" status for Plavsic and revoke her passport(which she got who knows how)!

This is shocking sick: in the fur coat and sun glasses, with the private limo and security escort...with the SMILE on her face...war criminal Plavsic is coming in my city?!

Not born here, never lived here, NEVER BEEN PRESIDENT HERE, got her Vracar apartment from Milosevic...

Get flying fast to your country where you've been president-ing and face the crowd there!!! Sure they will have plenty of questions for you if you still can answer them?

Plavšić was one of the key witnesses in the trial of former Republic of Srpska National Parliament Speaker Momčilo Krajišnik who was sentenced to 20 years in prison in March.

Well, she obviously did what was best for Biljana. I wonder how popular she will be back in RS.

Serbs have always been their own worst enemy. Turning on each other when going gets tough.

I was going to celebrate her release until i read that she betrayed her brothers.
Send her back to the Bosniaks!

If you can't do the time don't do the crime! Anyone that defended RS, Kraina, Serbia should of been prepared to go all the way. What do people think? It's all or nothing!

I hear you peggy, not a big fan of plavsic myself, but remember she's still one of us and one of us who suffered. i'm glad she's home and safe.
(ajvalija 101, 27 October 2009 20:54)

No, she is one of them.
She sold us out. She got prison anyway.
For all the people here who are saying that she did the right thing by dobbing in criminals, I say bull.
Sure, that kangaroo court in Hauge says they are criminals, but what do they know. They have released real criminals like Haradinaj and Oric so their credibility is zero.

What happened to all for one and one for all? For Biljana it was all for one and one for only one.

As soon as she spoke against one of us she became one of them. She will fit in nicely in Serbia. There is plenty of likeminded people there.

Roberto, I'm sure that I am not the only one who now doesn't even read any more of your rants but just give you a negative tick on the way to other post.

To those who attack the Hague:

It was set up in very bad times to make a point about not going around killing people.

Enough of your excuses and of your parochial politics.

the conscience of serbia has become more than sleepy -- sad to say -- it is positively comatose.

The way you mention Thaci and co as a sort of heroes is simply insane, I don't have to tell you why, I guess you are well informed but simply are so full of yourself that you tend to forget the reality...

Indeed. I have seen many comments such as this and I have stopped reading his self-righteous rubbish long ago. Seems that most of the people who read his posts are from his camp, so they are free to blow sunshine up each other's tailpipes ad nauseum.

Let me tell you who;

Peggy, you women tend to be so unforgiving.
i think that's exactly why plavsic was so hellbent on going against milosevic. She held a grudge. and was right btw.
But listen seriously, plavsic is low on the traitor list believe me. There's much more good that she did than evil. and there was both.
