Ment,

To be honest, I'm not 100% sure what Tesla was refering to as a Rights and Privileges.
>'Even in Tito's yugoslavia when they were granted everything, it was not enough, and the inevitable result was Milosevic, who while riding on the sentiment of indignation of the Serbian populace, took away those PRIVILEGES enjoyed by the Albanians. Emphasis on PRIVILEGES, and NOT rights'.
Tesla's comment doesn't specify one way or the other. If you're infering that the right to vote was taken away (justifiably or not), I'd agree with you, however I read this as saying that 'They' do not have the right to succeed. I would now agree with Tesla. A subset of the population does not have the right to harm the whole set. If the whole set grants such a privilege then thats different all together.

Fundamentally speaking the notion of seqular political parties can only worsen the problem. If the people created politically centered parties, parties that had issues and points about the overall landscape of the nation, or region they'd be heard better and harder to quarentine in a corner. As in Canada, it's easy to ignore the Bloc when a national issue is up for debate. Their primary action is that of tilting things to one side or the other. They do not have issues outside of their own region which makes them a hard pill to swallow at a national level, and it makes them suceptible to external political cooersion.

I do agree with your notion that parties ideally should not be based on ethnic lines, but if you want to have some idea why the reality in the ground is different and why certain posters voted negative, take a look at Tesla's comment.

There's a lot of posters here that have pretty odd notions of what's a right and what's a privilege.

Jan,

I fully agree with your comment. I do not think that politics should be mixed with religion or ethnicity as it seems to be happening in Serbia.
I use the Canadian example of the BlocQuebecois. This is a party whos primary chatered purpose is to seperate from Canada. This party enjoys seats that national level, and for the most part are always forming ill conceived relationships with the other national parties to get what they want for their own province.
At a regional level I can appricate and accept such parties, but I do not think they belong at a national level.
My honest guess is that many of the +/- markers latch on to a few words or a piece of a posting that they feel strongly about without letting it settle in their thoughts.
I don't often agree with the majority of you comments but in this case I'm 100% in agreement.
Good Point!

And in Jan's defense. Those that have marked his post negatively should seriously consider why they did so and properly resolve whether or not you're voting with a bias or with logic.

The current "score" of my previous comment is current +16, -4.

I am interested to hear from the people that voted negative, what they think is wrong with my post, if they disagree with what I wrote, and why.

It's good to see that the Serbian political scene is moving forward, from a narrow ethnonational based agenda, to one that promotes individual well being ie the economy, jobs, and long term investment. The Albanians on the otherhand are mired in the past, obssessed with their own racial and clan based politics to the detriment of everyone else who isn't Albanian.

What silliness.

You don't go around forming political parties along ethnic (or national) lines. Form them around issues - political systems, communism, capitalism, fascism or whatever your preference is. Form them around moral issues and way of living - abortion, crime, punishment, same-sex marriage, using fur for clothes.... Anything but something as arbitrary as who your parents where.

""We will have joint suggestions for the National Council of Albanians, but we will also take part individually in the next parliamentary elections in SERBIA."

This allegiance and feigned law-abiding will change very quickly once the population grows and they become a stronger force politically. Even in Tito's yugoslavia when they were granted everything, it was not enough, and the inevitable result was Milosevic, who while riding on the sentiment of indignation of the Serbian populace, took away those PRIVILEGES enjoyed by the Albanians. Emphasis on PRIVILEGES, and NOT rights. Rights are what you have when something is actually yours, but in this case Kosovo was and always will be Serbia, as are these southern Serbian municipalities. Make the right choices Albanians, or poverty and alienation will be the inevitable result once again, as we see in Kosovo.

It's good to see ethnic minorities acting in a democratic way in their country for the benefit of their ethnicity. These are the benefits of democracy. K_Albanians should take note of their brothers in So. Serbia, and work with the rights given to them by their state. Violence will never succeed. It only promotes reciprocal violence - and that wheel of violence will endlessly keep turning and turning.
