Wow let me spell out what is happening in this article, so you people can stop bickering about electricity prices, criminals, war reparations (hahah that's gotta be my fav) and whatever else you are managing to come up with. Read into the actions and the articles before you take it at face value - higher education helps here as well mind you, so 90% of you are excused.

A few things have been achieved here: 1) Kosovo government looks unable to control N. Kosovo or integrate Serbs into it; 2) Kosovo looks 'savage' in the eyes of the International Community for cutting off electricity just before winter; 3) Serbia champions the return of power to N. Kosovo and displays that it is a humanitarian nation that could possibly govern the whole of Kosovo again?; 4) ICJ will be affected by this; and 5) Even if Kosovo ever gets full sovereignty, Serbia has now laid an even firmer claim on the N. Kosovo, with electricity/utility supply.

Bad luck Kosovo and better luck next time in this diplomatic war.

Ment:
> If it's unethical for KEK to cut off electricity to hospitals/schools for willful non-payment (meaning you can afford it but choose not to), then why is it ethical for hospitals/schools to play politics with the lives of their patients/students?

Take off your blinkers & try reading the article again 'Ment'.

The article said nothing about hospitals being 'unwilling to pay KEK or anyone else, so your statement about 'hospitals/schools playing politics' is purest speculation.

And regardless, this isn't an issue of power being cut to individual institutions &/or homes. Power was cut to the ENTIRE northern region, including to those who are willing to pay, & even those who are willing to pay KEK.

This is not just an 'unethical' act 'Ment'.. switching off the power to hospital incubators & life support systems is flat out criminal.

And if you cannot understand that, then I pity you.

I have been monitoring the Balkan situation for years here in Canada.Just to set the record straight,I am not of Serb decent, therefore I have no vented interest. However, I am disgusted by the Albanians in Kosovo constantly complaining of their hardships yet have no problems exerting such on others. Unfortunately, Western media has demonized the Serbs to the point that all the ignorant bleeding hearts of American, European and Canadian criminal-huggers are too brainwashed and lazy to research the situation as it is. It makes me sick to see the destruction of historic Serbian monuments and family graves by Albanians (proof is all over you-tube and reports by Canadian ex-military personal who witnessed such destruction). Serbs, please know that there is a community of Canadians who support you and despite Harper's misguided recognition, do not accept the farce "government" under the criminal leadership of Albanians.

Indeed. The first item on the agenda for the next council meeting(s) in Mitrovica, Gracanica and Strpce should be the removal of all french letters from the Apteka.

Since we're talking ethics...

If it's unethical for KEK to cut off electricity to hospitals/schools for willful non-payment (meaning you can afford it but choose not to), then why is it ethical for hospitals/schools to play politics with the lives of their patients/students?

As one of the posters put it... isn't that equally 'sub-human'?

As for other thing... there is no analogue to shaving off the mustache. Other than "alternative life style" at best, mutilation at worst. So let's stick to mustache. ;-)

Looks like Serbs in Kosovo still have the same mindset of the 90s, thinking they can trample over the rights of the majority and have special treatment. Welcome to the new age where you have to pay for services.

Who in their right mind thinks that some people should be given free electricity when the majority pays for it? Looks like some folks still believe in discrimination

“By he time you are done paying for the destruction in Kosova, your debt will double. Patience and work hard”.

Pay very close attention to what’s happening in Bosnia – your good buddies the US/EU have had their first colossal failure in trying to unify that country. It wasn’t due to the Bosniaks, as reported in some media to cover up the real story, but it was because the Serbs would not have anything to do with it. In addition, Milorad Dodik was in Serbia awaiting the arrival of the new masters of Europe and thus had to reschedule the so called negotiations. This is an insult to the EU/US of such proportions that was unthinkable 10 years ago.

There will be no “war reparation payments’ from Serbia. Look and keep your eyes open and maybe you might learn something. If I was a Kosovar I would be very afraid of this situation. It will be you and your friends working very hard to pay for repairing those churches and monasteries you destroyed.

Serbia, is not only morally doing the right thing, but in the same right also reasserting her influence on the Northern edges. The K-Albs can shout, whimper to their masters and try to turn the power off; but in the end, they will never have any control, or fly their invented flag over that swath of Kosmet.

I always enjoy the comments that suggest that since the K-Serb population hasn't paid for 10 years, hasn't paid their bills, getting free electricity ad naseum. I recall hearing a phrase from a variety of ethnicities from the former Yugoslavia: "We must all work 1 day a week to support Kosovo". The validity of this statement is the same as those of the '10 years without pay' group's statements. This statement seems to hold a fair amount of deep rooted information. It would suggest, that most of Kosovo was getting services and costs of living for free or highly discounted prices compared to everyone else in the country. Further to that, since the population of Kosovo is 90%+ Albanian, it would suggest that for a great number of years this largely Albanian population has been suckling off the teet of the former Yugoslavia, while the other republics were paying for it.
Now, if I am suppose to accept this 10 years without paying, I would assume you'd accept 50 years without paying in the reverse.
Do you?
Should I?

Some are saying here that serbs don't give respect to albaniens. Excuse me, but there are lots of minorities including albaniens in Serbia, but I don't see serbs having many problems with them. That is because Serbia is most tolerant country toward its minority in Balkan. The problem in Kosovo is intolerance of minority by the albaniens and always been this way because they wanted to steel Kosovo and always used violence to obtain that. That is why Kosovo can never get ahead economicly or otherwise and not because of serbs. Saying all that, noone in Balkan can claim to be an angel.

I agree that cutting power to hospitals is a KEK mistake and power to hospitals should be restored straight away.
Anyway, the point in here is that who is going the spent electricity.
Is EPS ready to risk supplying the customers that dont pay any electricily or is the Serbian gov. going to stop money for N.Mitro to pay for their bills. I understand that EPS is very harsh to non paying customers.
I can wait to see what is going to happen in the coming year if EPS continues to supply north of Kosovo, are they going to do the same as KEK or run a charity.

If you read the title of this article carefully, you get the impression as if Belgrade has actually physically restored control in northern Kosova, which is not the case of course. Isn't this a typical case of media sensation?

PS: I think if you’d bothered to scratch the surface a bit more you would’ve easily found out why KEK has cut off the electricity supplies in northern Kosova. People there refuse to pay their bills and I will guarantee you that they won't the Serbian Grid company either, which will probably create a massive black hole in their budget too!

miles

pre 14 godina

From an economic arguement I can see your point when it comes to paying bills, but you and I both know that there is a political struggle going on in Kosovo between the Albanian population who are trying to re write history and steal Serbian land and a Serbian population who cannot allow their heartland to be taken from them. KEK is a part of that struggle.

Now from a political perspective, wether your right or wrong, turning off the life support machines for new born babies is not a good look. Do you get me brother? Don't you agree?

Go on you can agree with me on this point. I know you can.

If I may be so bold I think the court of public opinion is on my side on this one.

Mike

pre 14 godina

It was never an issue of refusing to pay bills, as some Albanians continue to think. It an issue of paying bills to KEK, the covert arm of Pristina. Serbs in Gracania told me they would happily pay for their electricity and all other utilities like everyone else if they knew there wasn't political manipulation at the other end. Therefore, I have no doubt that all the Serbs north of the Ibar will readily, and happily, pay their bills to EPS on time from now on.

So much for the supposed Albanian and Serbian desire to join the EU!! If there is supposed to be a borderless EU with Serbia, Albania and Kosovo (we can debate forever wether it'll join independently or as a part of Serbia) wanting to join then you'd think that the whole region would connect their electricity grids so that power can flow in all directions. With this option in place, different power companies can supply power and consumers can choose who they want, i.e. who is the cheapest. Hasn't anybody in the Balkans grasped that idea yet?? So as long as Serbs and Albanians get a reliable and stable electricity supply, does it really matter where the source is. The only problem I could see with this is who would legally own the infrastructure (for repairs + maintenance) - but this will only be decided emphatically when the ICJ rules on the secession case - but that's a different matter.

Miles,

Majority of albanians support KEK, because they think its unfair that serbs have been getting free electricity for 10 years, and we have had to pay quite high prices. Serbs have been positively discriminated.

It is Belgrade and K.serbs that are politicizing this issue.

No country in the world supplies free electricity to its citizens or schools or hospitals etc.

If serbs had paid their bills and still got cut off them I would support your view that KEK was wrong, however that is not the case.

I would like to see what happens if serbs in the north of Kosovo were to start refusing to pay the bills to the those serbian companies - lets see how long Belgrade will tolerate them. They will soon realise what a good deal they had with KEK once they start getting charged the normal price for electricity than everyone else pays.

Mike

It was never an issue of refusing to pay bills, as some Albanians continue to think. It an issue of paying bills to KEK, the covert arm of Pristina. Serbs in Gracania told me they would happily pay for their electricity and all other utilities like everyone else if they knew there wasn't political manipulation at the other end. Therefore, I have no doubt that all the Serbs north of the Ibar will readily, and happily, pay their bills to EPS on time from now on.

Radoslav

pre 14 godina

Do you?
Should I?

For every mythological argument in the Balkans there is an equal and opposite mythological argument. Newton # 2

Take off your blinkers & try reading the article again 'Ment'.

The article said nothing about hospitals being 'unwilling to pay KEK or anyone else, so your statement about 'hospitals/schools playing politics' is purest speculation.

Bad luck Kosovo and better luck next time in this diplomatic war.

Have noticed a common trait that's present in all criminals & mafia organisations is the worship of the $ above all else.

Interesting then that whenever KEK cuts off the power to entire serb districts, that some K-albanian supporters here seem to think that the 'pursuit of the $' is sufficient justification - especially given the level of corruption present in KEK in particular, & the penetration of the K-albanian government by the albanian mafia in general.

Bottom line - only a 'sub-human' would switch-off power to an entire hospital.. full stop

Can the Albanian posters condemn this action of KEK. Come on I know deep down in your hearts you know it's wrong.
(Miles, 20 October 2009 12:18)

Of course they know - but they have to show us that their mustache is longer than Serbian. And their guns look more fancy + better decorated.

One day hopefully everyone will discover, the guns are useless, time to shave and "Balkan Mentality" is dead and buried, RIP, but no one will shed a tear.

Both the EPS and the EPCG should have made sure that there wasn't any power outages at all in Kosovo, starting right from Feb 17 last year...

Serbia, is not only morally doing the right thing, but in the same right also reasserting her influence on the Northern edges. The K-Albs can shout, whimper to their masters and try to turn the power off; but in the end, they will never have any control, or fly their invented flag over that swath of Kosmet.

that´s the minimum to guarantee electricity within serbia, but when will this "government" finally cut off occupied parts of kosmet from food and electricity?

just to reshape and modernie the services ???

It was never an issue of refusing to pay bills, as some Albanians continue to think. It an issue of paying bills to KEK, the covert arm of Pristina. Serbs in Gracania told me they would happily pay for their electricity and all other utilities like everyone else if they knew there wasn't political manipulation at the other end. Therefore, I have no doubt that all the Serbs north of the Ibar will readily, and happily, pay their bills to EPS on time from now on.

Stop trying to make stuff up when you don't even understand the English word "necessity". Wow, now the Albanians are teaching English speaking people English. You guys really do know everything. As for the electricity matter in N. Kosovo, like some poster already said, the Serbs will pay for electricity, they just do not want to pay to K_Albanian unauthorized government. Can Albanians understand that English?

Miles: "No matter what the dispute, no matter if you are right, no matter if you think your opponents are thieves, to deny basic electricity to hosiptals, where the sick are looked after, innocent children are cared for and babies are born is a sign of a lack of humanity, a lack of civilisation."

I agree so strongly with this. Well said! It is a basic human right.

And besides which, it is clear that this is about a dispute regarding who is taking the payment, not an opportunity to avoid payment.

KEK won't loose any money on this. They don't want to provide free electricity? That's fine. They don't have to. It's EPS problem now, right?
I don't see how is KEK loosing money there?

I'm willing to bet that there are several areas in Kosovo where Albanians haven't paid their electric bills but still maintain power in their grids. Only Serb areas have been targeted, as usual. Shutting down the electric power to Hospitals is beyond immoral!

Stop trying to make stuff up when you don't even understand the English word "necessity". Absolutely required; indispensible. Those are a couple of definitions of necessary, Kosovari. I believe that providing electrity to hospitals is a necessity by human standards. Why would you want to deny functioning medical services to people, no matter how much you hate them? BTW, all the people that live in Kosovo are Kosovari, not just Albanians. Please don't forget that.

Mr Rae.

pre 14 godina

Do you?
Should I?

And if you cannot understand that, then I pity you.

pre 14 godina
