Sofia today is much more pleaent than Belgrade, people are better dressed, the cars are newer.
Sure it is still the poorest country of the EU, but Serbia has a long way to go before it catches up!

Are you sure, I've been in the two countries, didn't have that feeling.....maybe we had different glasses :)

Lazar, arrogance is not a virtue! 20 years ago Bulgaria, after spanding 45 years under a Russian boot for no fault of its own, was far behind Serbia. Indeed its predicament came from the fact that the West was corting Yugoslavia. Yugoslavia, on the other hand was pressuring Bulgaria and its communist government had little options but to swear allegence to the Soviets without ever receiving full support. Now things are exactly the other way arround.Bulgaria is a member of the EU and NATO. At the same time it has good relations with Russia. Not only Serbia is not in a possition to pressure it, it has to woe it!

Here we have it ladies and gentlemen, the idea that the amelioration of life ends with people that are better "dressed," and where "the cars are newer."

Nik it's called access to credit, which perpetuates the illusion that people can actually afford luxuries.

What are Germany, France, Italy - Trojan horses?

"I do not see any danger related to our intentions to join the EU,” Tadić said.

That's because, Mr. Tadic, your EU masters are telling you to say that. I believe that Serbia's more stable, long-term future lies in strong cooperation with Moscow, rather that Berlin or Brussels. The centuries of history with our Russian brothers has been so much better than our past with our European "friends" (aka Germany). And don't fool yourself- the EU is completely controlled by Germany- whose "European civility" cost so many Serbian lives over the last 100 years.
So, Mr. Tadic....please stop thinking about the EU for the short time Mr. Medvedev is here- concentrate on improving relations with Russia instead of EU "promises" that will never come. Much more can be gained by Medvedev, than by Biden.

I personally look down on Bulgaria

I disagree with Tadic. In the EU we will be nothing more than some like Bulgaria... do we want to be like Bulgaria? I personally look down on Bulgaria and how things are there. Lets not fall down to that level, please.
