Serbia has been full of guns for dozens of years, way before the apparent 'turkey-kosovo-albania' route was 'established'

C'mon! Under Tito? No way.

Many people I know have guns at home and almost all of them are made in Serbia. TT handgun is one of the most popular.

Serbia is a big source of illegal weapons in Serbia.

and btw if this happened in a region of Serbia near Kosovo, while highly unlikely I can understand Kate and Goran stating that the gun came from Kosovo due to their politically motivated attitude.

However this happened in Novi Sad, quite a way to transport a gun from Kosovo to save a few euros.

It amazes me that with so many guns available and so much post war trauma there aren't more mass shootings like in the States.
(kate, 8 October 2009 14:23)

Indeed. But just note: if you hear that someone went to buy a 10 year old sex slave boy, than the name of the perpetrator is usually Biblebelt Johny, not Jovan Jovanovic or Gjon Berisha.

It's not just the cost of airplane ticket to Bangkok.

On the other hand, Biblebelt Johny will preach sexual abstinence every Sunday in the Biblebelt Biblestudy Holy Church. While Jovan Jovanovic and Gjon Berisha will call each other names (as previously seen all over B92 or youtube).

Why not blame albanians for all problems related to the balkans. Seems like albanians refer to Serbs as "evil" at every opportunity and disregard any and all reference to albanian responsibility to the problems within the region.

Like the Nazi's of old, even Himmler denied any wrong doing.

Poor policeman and my thoughts go out to his family.

But Pejoni et al - All Goran was speaking about was the ease with which guns can be found in the Balkans. It is a well known fact that guns, drugs and humans are being smuggled all the time and that one of the main routes is via Kosovo.

Read any report from the relevant European authorities and they will confirm this fact.

That isn't point scoring - it's a fact. The same as the fact that the gangs behind these trades are often multi-ethnic (hooray for George Robertson's 'aim').

It amazes me that with so many guns available and so much post war trauma there aren't more mass shootings like in the States.

You just couldn't resist making a political point, could you?

You are blaming albanians for guns in Serbia and all of Balkans?!!! most of the guns in the balkans were and are made in Serbia!
(nikshala, 8 October 2009 10:48)

see, thats the problem with you albanians, every single thing a serbian posts is some form of anti-albanian, milosevic era propaganda. Firstly, if youre referring to Zastava; they sell weapons to armenia, and if there are no orderds for weapons they dont make them. It takes more than one person to do the bidding. The turks get hold of the stuff from ex-USSR countries, then they trade it with the albanians who then trade it with the serbs and the rest of europe. There is never a line seperating criminals, they are the same. but unfortunately, the majority of the weapons come in from kosovo and albania due to the fact that an AK47 might set you back only €280. And due to the corruption throughout albania and kosovo people dont have proper living standards and need to make money to live and thus do whatever is needed. unforunately, farming and the rest of the argricultural branches have all but dried up, even in serbia. the EU relies on the south eastern europeans to make them look good.

Goran so you're blaming Albanians for the death of a Serbian officer, due of our poor borders!? What about border Gate 1 and 31 which has a poorly costums thanks to Serbian wishes. Secondly, most weapons I have seen in Kosovo are made in Serbia, Zastava Arms. I wonder how they reach Kosovo easly, let alone civilians in Serbia?

That is tragic, really sad. 31 years old. thats not fair. but thats the problem you face in the balkans. weapons are easier to find than jobs, especially with the whole kosovo-albania-turkey route. but in the end, its this idiots fault, and i hope he gets a hell of a lot of time in jail.

Even here in melbourne we have those sorts of things happening, but no where near on such a scale. shootings are rare. but its a lot better than the US
