One man died and at least ten others were injured today during the violence between two rival groups of football supporters in Široki Brijeg, Bosnia.

Thanks a lot, inteed, your West European Adolf Hitler, Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels, Hapsburgs and SS Totenkopf already educated us well.
BTW: Edward Longshanks had some very "progressive" laws. So "progressive", that would make Aztec rulers (now I am not joking about 'Quetzal', but talking seriously), Ivan the Terrible or Vlad Tepes vomit. Plus Osman sultans, too.
http://tinyurl.com/ypl6wk
I am very sorry to anyone whom I made to vomit for the link above. But this fine citizen of Trollhätten needs some history education.
By the way: Edward Longshanks is in some sense one of the "founding fathers" of USA. Because his laws were among the reasons USA did split from England - see "unusual and cruel punishment".
Now if anyone wonders, what the REAL "founding fathers" did mean referring to "unusual and cruel punishment" - that's precisely it.
After Edward Longshanks it was used all over West Europe. In the barbaric "East" on the other hand it was not the norm. For instance, "Russian Truth" of Prince Yaroslav did not know about death penalty at all, only about monetary fines and penalty by losing freedom.

(roberto, 5 October 2009 06:05)
"bosniak" can be Albanian, Croat, Serb, Hungarian. BTW: Moshe Pijade was a "Bosniak", too and the closest thing he was can be described as "Serb", but he was Sephardic.
In this case it is relatively simple: "Vedran" can be any of these (except Hungarian or Albanian). "Puljic" does give some more hint, because it probably means "from Pula".
However a hint: there is a Vedran Puljic, who was on the "Facebook" and died recently due soccer violence. He was fan of Marko Perkovic (aka "Thompson").
I think, that tells all, what you need. Someone has family name "from Pula" and likes Thompson.
http://tinyurl.com/ybwdz23
But if you research further, you will discover that being from Pula and liking a nazi/ustasha-pretender rock musician does not mean, you can't have (probably similar minded) Serb or Bosnian Muslim friends all over facebook.
Go figure.

Yeah, and with 99.99% probability he was not just merely a Bosnian Croat, but also a fan of Thompson (as little research about him on the facebook can reveal it to you).
Regardless, RIP, this was completely senseless and very sad.
And it has of course nothing to do with the "Slav" versus "Albanian" question. It's simply the question with whom you mingle with. Someone who likes Thompson and is active soccer fan probably lives more dangerous life than, say, a math teacher.

I think that we should let politics stay out of such violent and sad incidents.
Lets debate politics om more suitable threads.

i really do not know what we need to do in order to put an end to this violence, which is truly approaching run-way fascism, and i do not use that word lightly. obviously 1 little PEACE march in blgd was insufficient to stop this veritable deluge. we have to figure out something and fast.
i don't know whether this is croat vs. boniak or not (my own ignorance about names??) but at any rate i am always waiting for someone to pipe up about "ancient animosities, what do you expect?!" well i, for one, expect better. there are "ancient animosities" all over the damned world, but somehow, by some miracle, most people manage not to kill the "other". so the other plausible explanation is that there are people hard at work exploiting and manipulating these "ancient animosities" to make sure they are kept current and up to date. call them demagogues, call them politicians, even call them "teachers" (even some parents) -- always ready to push HATE as it suits them. especially down the all too ready throats of restless (and all too often un-employed or under-employed) young men, and a perfect recipe for... murder. then all of polite society says tut-tut, how could this be happening?! but then we hate you and you hate us, so it all proves we must separate, forever.
if all of the potential haters had separate countries, we'd have about 10 billion (give or take) separate countries. and still the lingering hate.
we as a society have got to deal with these issues, realize what a toll our short-sightedness is taking on societies, on our youth.

Interesting thing that you don't mention that one Sarajevo fan was killed during rioting.

Let's be honest: this happens in traditional AND heterogenous societies, whereas Albanian-occupied lands are homogenous, so instead of hooliganism they have pogroms. Multiculturalism = Homicidal Violence wherever hate-ridden groups with long histories of homicidal animosity are forced to live together - until one group holocausts another. 1/3 of Albania's toponyms & 95% of Kosmet's are Serb & the descendants of Serbs who left them live in N. Serbia & Monte but half assimilated into Albanians.

"this happens only in slavic countrys belgrade yesterday and sarajevo today"
The FK Sarajevo fan was killed in Siroki Brijeg, not Sarajevo. Siroki Brijeg is home to a 99% Bos. Croat (Catholic) population and located in Herzegovina, south-west of Mostar.

Do you not know how to read, Rod?
It said that Vedran Puljic was "fatally" struck in the head. This means that he was killed.
Try to read the article first before you criticize.
(Hrvatin, 4 October 2009 22:17)
When this article first apeeared before 7PM it was not known that fatal incident happened .It was mentioned only in modified version here on B92 later.

For Gods sake people get a grip. The Sarajevo supporters were attacked by the towns folk of Siroki Brijeg, who had things thrown at them from rooftops, beerhalls etc. This is what hatred on a religeous divide leads to, the young man it appears was killed by Police who joined in the melee. He is of mixed PARENTAGE but first he is a human being. We must fight against this jungle mentality and celebrate our diferences. We have one thing in common, humanity. My condolences to Pulic,s parents.

Yet another example of the failures of the fantasy land state of "Bosnia-Herzegovina". More like a nightmare version of Disneyland.

As szemi pointed out, I have commented previous article. In that article b92 did not mentioned that one of the fans have died. They changed text of the article later.
Please, dont take on me. It is not my fault that you Croat dont like Bosnian muslims. Sad but true.
According to the name the person who was killed could have been Croat.

Good Lord, you changed your text after my comment.

Sickening attack. Will Bosnia be having a "March Against Violence", a national day of mourning and will the entire country come to a standstill?
pre 14 godina
My condolences to his family. May he RIP
Horrible that violence again spread around the otherwise noble sport of fotball.
I think that we should let politics stay out of such violent and sad incidents.
Lets debate politics om more suitable threads.

i don't know whether this is croat vs. boniak or not (my own ignorance about names??)

Someone who likes Thompson and is active soccer fan probably lives more dangerous life than, say, a math teacher.

... We really need to make some educational campaign over there.
(uk, 5 October 2009 13:27)

And it has of course nothing to do with the "Slav" versus "Albanian" question.
(Ataman, 5 October 2009 12:38)
BTW, Village-Bey: we tried rose-flavored llocum and I just opened "llocum me arra" made in Prizren and it's really-really good. So what I wrote recently needs to be revised. Funny tough that Albanian "arra" seem to be the same thing as "орех" in Russian. Sounds almost the same. Go figure, here is the "Slav" versus "Albanian" thing to anyone's liking. Why some will argue, I will just eat their llokum.
Ratings:
Gold = the llokum made to Armenian recipe near Seattle, WA is still the king.
Silver = the "llokum me arra" from PR is pretty close to get the "Silver"
Bronze = the one with rose flavor from Prizren (sorry, aRTA) is "just" bronze.
Takovo/Gornji Milanovac: to chewy, to sweet, but still edible. Armenians and "llokum me arra" from PR is definitly better, probably aRTA (sorry for the joke), too.
"Sultan" from PR is so-so.

'when will you eastern Europeans will learn'
tough question. My caste is considered illiterate speaking our own language and among my eastern europeans, let alone english :)) and even i see your illiteracy is greater :) when will we learn? lets learn together :)
Ataman, interesting info. I was just about to feel sorry for the guy, thanks. Btw ataman bosniak is pc term for bosnia muslim. It was invented during the war i think. Bosnian on the other hand could be serb, croat or muslim. Bosniak, bosnian, you see.
Hooliganism? Blame politicians. They hook up with clubs who hook up with criminals. In serbia we had a good proposal for law several years ago but clubs lobbied in parliament and watered it down. Now that justice minister person talks about english model law. Which they rejected when it was proposed!! Life's beautiful.

I don't know what universe you live in Markica, but in my universe I see British hooligans fight British, Danes fight Danes, Swedes fight Swedes etc. And they are mostly all the same ethnic type: White, fat bellies, short-hair, and with an accent that makes it hard it to recognize their language as English, Danish or Swedish.
On 5 October 2009 06:05, roberto asked: "i really do not know what we need to do in order to put an end to this violence, (...)"
May I make a suggestion? Public "de-nutting" of the people involved. It might not work directly, but it would remove the worst holigans from the human gene pool...
