Ataman,

That's a beautiful anthem, I assume you know the whole text, seems a kind of fulfilled prophecy, it could well have been the national anthem of the to-day Germany (Deutschland einig Vaterland; Laßt das Licht des Friedens scheinen; and no references to whatever kind of ideology). What a pity that it was badly misused by those ridiculous DDR-dinos.

Anyway, let me reasonably cheer here for the genuine Schiller (reasonably means that "the new life" (or new order) is not necessarily paradisiac; it might well be that the old one [the union of veto-holder nation-states has completed its life cyclus - the same as the old world of which Schiller speaks, which had to succumb to the new order, so vehemently attacked then by great thinkers who lacked the Zeitgeist).

You are misinformed. To be allowed to join EU still all (!) members have to say yes.

(Ron, 4 October 2009 21:51)

Ron,

check the decision-making procedures in the Lissabon tretay. A lot of interesting changes there. (Good that you point out "still"). What was valid until yesterday, won't be tomorrow.

Look towards the future my friend. "Das Älte stürzt, es ändern sich die Zeiten und neues Leben blüht aus den Ruinen" (The old crumbles, time is changing, and new life springs off the ruins (may Schiller forgive my free translation).

Kosovo-USA,

You are misinformed. To be allowed to join EU still all (!) members have to say yes.

That will not happen with Kosovo. As it is not a state!
The only way Kosovo can ever join EU is just as a part of Serbia.

Deal with it my friend. And please get a life!

I am ashamed at what occurred in Ireland on Friday. People were subjected to constant propaganda by the EU and domestic elite that things would get a lot worse than they are if Lisbon was rejected a second time and anyone who expressed doubts about the surrender of even more of our sovereignty was critised. It is a sad day when people give up even more of the freedom that was hard fought for by our forefathers. I hope Serbia remains independent and free and is not eaten up by the EU superstate project.

Although I was also a bit disappointed after this YES vote which came after a disgusting one sided campaign however having thought over I say Let us be optimistic. This artificial new model may very easily accelarate the dismentling of already rotten €USSR .We should not forget that another anti-humane project called Soviet Union which was planned and financed by grandparents and great grandparents of those who are behind Lisbon treaty also failed amd this one is bound to fail but much much sooner. People are not stupid and I expect a wave of protests and civil unrests all over europe in forecoming years.I myself would appreciate a march on brussels consisting of different soccer fan groups(which anyway can be hostile to each other but can be united for this event driven by common aim)in order to ask the chinovniks (overpaid by european taxpayers money) in Brussels some questions regarding efficency and character of the LIsbon treaty created monster.

As a British person, we are also in line to have our careerist politicians force us into the Lisbon Treaty with no say whatsoever.

Some say that Herr Mandelson, who would be in jail if he was anyone else, was brought back into the UK govt just for that purpose.

But I feel so sorry for our neighbours in Ireland, because they already fought a valiant battle to make the vote democratic, and the people voted no.

So now they are just railroaded into accepting it, the same as we will be.

This is nothing for any EU citizen to celebrate, especially in the UK where we have no written constitution and our govt opted out of many of the social rights allowed to other European nations.

I agree with some of the other very articulate posters: this is bad news for all of us and a sign that there is no democracy in the EU whatsoever.

I have a vague hope that European peoples can join together to protest EU actions.

Yet again, a few people at the top even more faceless than our own politicians, will decide our futures.

It must be bad if I feel this way. I have always been very pro 'Europe' but no longer pro the 'EU project'. I'm off that wagon, especially as nobody has even bothered explaining the ramifications to the very people it will affect.

A simple combination of bribery and blackmail produced this result. Ireland will gain absolutely nothing from passing the Lisbon Treaty, but will lose a great deal. As for Serbia, a wonderful and courageous nation, my sincere hope is that you do not fall in to the trap that the EU is laying for you. Not only will you have President Tony Blair, but Serbia will just become a neutered economic and political slave of the EU/USA/NATO superstate, lose all control over defence, immigration, everything. Believe me, that is the reality of what has happened in Ireland, forget the lies and hype. LONG LIVE SERBIA!
(Terry, Belfast, Ireland, 4 October 2009 12:07)

Terry....THANK YOU for these comments. I have been saying the same things for years...that the EU (aka Germany) is "setting a trap" for Serbia. Germany could not conquer Serbia during World Wars I and II....but they are now trying again- this time through subtle "economic trickery" and false promises. But the Serb's main weapon against this future takeover of their sovereignty is the independent spirit of its people, along with its Holy Church. Serbs....believe in yourselves and your future.....don't go along with the rest of Europe- just look at their troubled history. Most of the wars in the history of mankind were the result of "civilized" Europeans. Serbs can be prouder of their civilized Serbian heritage more than the so-called "Great Powers" can be of their treacherous and aggressive actions against mankind. Stay away from the EU....new elections might be the only answer!!!

This is a very sad day.The Irish people voted no the first time round .That was it.Now they have been asked to vote again. The Serbian Regime is happy.Do they understand what freedom and democracy mean?No protests no one questioning this insane decision to vote twice. What can the future hold for Europe?Serbia will be a client province.Ignorant people led by puppets.

Democracy is only an illusion within the EU and this treaty will make it even worse. Can you image Tony BLair being the president of Serbia? The people will no longer have a vote - only their representitives. We should all know how unrepresentitive these politicians are - the Lisbon treaty itself would never pass an EU wide referendum so that in itself is just an example of what is going to be shoved down our throats. Welcome to the EUSSR. Serbia, more than ever, needs to steer well clear of the EU.

The Irish "Yes" vote was the result of a deceitful and scare-mongering campaign by the corrupt Irish government and its sinister foreign backers. Just a dream of capatilist prostitutes

The result of the Lisbon referendum in the 26 Counties makes for further integration into the EU, that is more power to Brussels and less power in Ireland.

The current economic recession was harnessed by the Yes advocates to stir up the fears of the people. Massive resources were deployed at home and abroad and false promises made of "jobs" and "recovery" by simply voting Yes.

The reason for such a massive swing in sixteen months towards the Yes side was the fear about the economy and the doubling of unemployment since the last Lisbon referendum.

A major contributory factor to the boom and the corruption which accompanied it was the ceding of control of interest rate policies to the WU.

The entire print media were unashamedly pro-Treaty in a vote which was not about EU membership. Will those who promoted Yes not deliver on their promises of jobs and recovery and will the compliant media hold them to their commitments?

why should official belgrade be "happy" of the Lisbon Treaty for a reformed EU.According to the lisbon treaty there will be no veto, they will make decision on majority. the majority of the EU has recognized Kosovo.Serbias allies in the EU could stopp any convergence of Kosovo to the EU.
