At the United Nations Wednesday, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Iran faces a choice of whether to comply with its international nuclear obligations or face greater isolation and international pressure.

The first US sanctions on Iran were imposed in 1979 with bans on trade and investment.Since 2006 the UN ,when the nuclear row broke out, imposed sanctions on exports of nuclear technology and also froze the assets of Iranian banks and people and restricted their travel to weatern countries.

None of those sanctions had any effect and the mullahs continued their nuclear programme undeterred at anything the West threw at them.

If the West thinks that new sanctions will change the Mullahs behaviour they are
wasting their time. The welfare of the Iranian people has never been a priority for the regime.Their priority is survival and remain in power. Also the nuclear programme is a top priority for tha hardliners. There won't be any deviation from that programme and why should there be one.

It has been said by many posters before , Iran won't compromise on its nuclear programme unless there is a comprehensive peace settlement in the Middle East including the question of palestine and Israel's nuclear weapons.

Is the West and israel up to the challenge? I don't think so.
