tourist, why should I tolerate raids on foreign embassies, why homophobia, why national motivated rascism?

There's no single reason to tolerate such.
(rolerkoster, 2 October 2009 01:06)

It is not about tolerance for such kind of awfull event, it is about the continuousely pooring of hatred on a country that is trying very hard to come out from a heavy past and should be finally given some credits!

I could give you 1000thds of such examples that are happening all around the world on a daily basis and are not publicized at all because unfortunately became "business as usual"
You are certainly smart enough to know what I am talking about.
Does it mean that it should be an excuse for Serbia, certainly not, but let's be realistic, it isn't a one side problem, it unfortunately became a society problem!

We, as foreigners that have been travelling a lot in the all region are happy to say that we do love this country and it's hearted and welcoming people, it doesn't mean that we tolerate any violence of any form and from any side!

I'm certainly getting very upset and concerned that this site became a battlefield of hatred and appeal one more time B92 to sanction the offensive comments that we unfortunately see more and more lately!

No to violence - No to hatred - No to intolerance, for whoever has this features, pls pass your way!

Why should someone who enjoyed the hospitality of Serbian people for many years tolerate the killing of a tourist, why should I tolerate raids on foreign embassies, why homophobia, why national motivated rascism?

Dear All, I've had the pleasure or working in Belgrade for a few years now, and use B92 as a source of news, but have never yet posted. But I really can't stay silent any longer.

We all know that a lot of terrible things have, do and will happen around the world (and some of us, sadly, have one way or another, been close to them). I've got kids, and all of you readers have brothers, sisters, husbands, wives, mothers and fathers. Regardless of faith, nationality, or political persuasion, the loss of any one of them would be devastating. Under the circumstances of this event (which are that a bunch of thugs brutally, and pointlessly, killed a visitor to our city - nothing more, nothing less), can't we give some kudos for the powers-that-be reacting rapidly, decisively, and in a united fashion. In my own country (and I declare myself as an atheist native-born Englishman, of native-born parents, as I realise that background, ethnicity and belief systems seem, sadly, to be so important to so many of those who post) we would not have been so resolute.

Of course there is much left to be done, and much to regret in the past, but the future isn't ours, it belongs to the kids you pass in the streets tomorrow morning, the kids who were not even around in the 90s and before. So, dear posters, do them, me and yourselves a favour. If you want to continue slagging each other off, do it somewhere else. I'm bored stiff of the constant Kosovo/Kosova, orthodox/muslim, east/west slant given to everything that happens here. There really is more to life.

Without wishing to sound patronising or insincere, I really must say that you guys (and I've been to all corners of ex-YU), are in my limited experience, the most decent, helpful, witty, informed, polite and considerate bunch I have lived and worked amongst. And it's not just me - 99%+ of visitors I come across absolutely love you guys and your place. If we can love you, maybe you can love yourselves (and one day each other?) a bit better.

Life is short (and in some cases far too short). If you're going to intervene, then make it better, please.

With my best regards to you all, and with hope....

"I see an unbroken thread between the violence of the Nineties, the monstrous crimes in the former Yugoslavia".

Right on! So Tadic now admits that most of the violence in the nineties in Yugo was caused by Serbs. It's refreshing to hear some reality based thinking from a Serb politician. I think Tadic's heart is in the right place but he has to toe the line to make sure he gets elected. What he needs to do now is lead the people not follow them. This is a good start.

Some of you are saying this can happen in any country. I can buy that, but you cannot deny the fact that these kinds of acts happen in Serbia far more frequently. Sounds like a purge is on the horizon if Tadic's fiery rhetoric is to be taken seriously.

This brutal crime has nothing to do with politics, so its very cyincal for Tadic and the yellows to turn it into such.

These threats should be aimed at anti-social behavior (a Western phenomenon) rather than at Serbian patriots.

But Tadic should be careful, they are fascists, they are CLERO-FASCISTS. Is Tadic ready to take on that terrorist organization? I doubt it. The good news for Serbs in Serbia is that these fascists will not go to Europe like the former Serbian commandos of the 90's that are wreaking havoc in Europe.

Let me see if I understand you correctly.

You WOULD pay your respect to Brice Taton, but you won't because of France's colonialist history in North Africa?

Is this really your position?

Zoran

pre 14 godina

Tadic, don't you think it's a bit late to complain about this violence now? You and your police minister should have done something about this a long time ago instead of using it for political purposes.

Last year during opposition rallies I'm sure you though, great - those hooligans will spoil everything. Instead of cracking down on them and allowing free speech protests without incident, you have allowed these hooligans to get stronger and stronger.

Tadic, it is your policies that have allowed this - so stop trying to blame others and the past. You need to focus on reducing crime and not on political point scoring. If you can't do that then move aside and allow those that can.

Finally, a Serb politician admits that there is something wrong with the way violence is used and viewed in Serbia. I don’t mean to insult anyone here, but anyone who has had any longer term interaction with the Serbian people knows that there is a serious problem with how Serbs view violence.

It’s a social problem and it can be fixed, as long as the Serbian people understand and admit that there is something wrong. The rest of the people of the Balkans have had to bear the brunt of this hooligan-like violence, and I hope we can all find a way to end it.

This is so sad, that this young man came to Serbia as a tourist to cheer on his team and was beaten to a pulp by a bunch of idiots. I'm French, I live in France, I love football and I know Beograd a little bit (been there a couple of times). Enough reasons to fill sad after what happened to Brice.

Here in France, we have seen how people from Beograd payed tribute to him. We have seen them waiting a long time just to light a candle or to bring a flower. Old and young, girls and boys, women and men. So there's no risk that we consider all serbian people as wild or violent.

So, please stay away with your discussions about Kosovo, Bosnia and so on, just remember this young guy.

I think that Olf is a misspelling of the word Oaf. Even one death is tragedy, but to carry on like this is beyond belief. Tell me which ‘western’ nation has not experienced an assault resulting in death of a foreigner? I can name you several including the one I live in and I can guarantee you that these incidents were not even reported in European papers.

If it was anyone else but the French I would accept it with respect. However, the French seem to forget that their own backyard is not very clean. I am sick to death of these over reactive Serbian politicians bending over backwards to appease Western Europe. I can clearly remember Jacques Chirac boasting to the press how he was instrumental in picking the targets to be bombed in Serbia during NATO’s illegitimate attacks and that he said he was doing it in a humane manner.

Anybody can explain and pardon an accident, but the problem here is that we are dealing with consistent pattern of violence and thuggery. It's now a societal problem not an accident.

So you are albanian? Why hide behind a non-albanian name? Are you ashamed to be an albanian?

How strange, he was claiming to be Scandinavian a while ago, which seems to be stretching the definition of "neighbours" a bit. Maybe Greater Albania stretches further than we've been told.

"If it was anyone else but the French I would accept it with respect. However, the French seem to forget that their own backyard is not very clean. They have frequent riots that last for weeks at a time resulting from their police shooting youths indiscriminately. In employment they discriminate against people born in France who are of North African origin and there are many more issues that can be raised.'

Let me see if I understand you correctly.

You WOULD pay your respect to Brice Taton, but you won't because of France's colonialist history in North Africa?

Is this really your position?

Why should someone who enjoyed the hospitality of Serbian people for many years tolerate the killing of a tourist, why should I tolerate raids on foreign embassies, why homophobia, why national motivated rascism?

There's no single reason to tolerate such.

So many people here saying stupidities.

Repose en paix Brice.

If you can't do that then move aside and allow those that can.

or maybe all of them have an issue with those Serbs.

To this as usual lower and lower level comment I can only answer welcome to all serbian people.
What you have show these days after this tragic event is remarquable.
Take the opportunity to move one step further in continuousely rejecting violence of any form!
Whoever as visited your country knows how much you are well hearted and welcoming people and I had muyself the pleasure to enjoy this hospitality so many times.
Keep on this track and ignore the provocation from people that are jaleous about what you achieved in such a short period of time considering such a heavy past.

If Olf doesn't want you as a neighbourh, I will gladly do. There is always a place for normal people, there is no place for hate mongers!!!

I have had more than enough of people trying to turn this personal tradegy into yet another Balkan stick to beat each other with. If there is any country, in the Balkans, or anywhere else in the world, that does not have among its people some evil, violent individuals, let them stand up! "Let he who is without sin throw the first stone."
Enough of this infantile stupidity, please.

The Swiss

In which world are you living in, if this is the world of hatred, pls pass your way and look somewhere else.

You should appreciate that Mr Tadic is trying to do something instead of pooring hatred on it.
We all know what happend during the 90st as well as we all know what happend in Irak and what is happening in Afganistan and we all will never forget any of these events, but is it really necessary to continuousely hammer it with so much hatred on the same head!!
Pls pass your way

This is so sad, that this young man came to Serbia as a tourist to cheer on his team and was beaten to a pulp by a bunch of idiots. As a lover of sport, I really hope that the law comes down hard on these morons. I am proud of all the Serbian citizens that showed by the thousands to pay their respects.
RIP to Brice Taton and my condolences to his family.

ooks like this one is at an end. So just to say - keep it up Swiss! And to everyone else - we'll get there in the end, and more quickly if we try to a bit harder. Wishing you all good sleep, and clear consciences.
