JAT has always been an interesting company in terms of economy. The previous government led by KOSTUNICA could provide information to create some transparency on how JAT was used to finance political support for THAT government. Salaries from JAT was likely used as payment for political support for Kostunica's government

A flight from (ie) Belgrade to London costs about the same whether you use Lufthansa or Jat. Lufthansa mechanics and other staff make at least 10x more than their Jat counterparts.

Someone is taking the rest for themselves. The government must expose them even if it is themselves.

distribution of profit and the staff can see how profitable (or unprofitable) their business really is. That's one big advantage of a free market!!

Unfortunately the world of "free market" is not any better in terms of transparency and things can turn pretty ugly.

What is common in the world of (ex) "socialism" is the omni-present cleptocracy and fat cats eating all the food.

There is no third choice, so I guess, that's we have on Planet Earth. Unless you work for yourself or at least manage your own contracts.

I hear that the technical staff get paid peanuts to maintain planes whereas the bosses are paid a small fortune. The staff know how much contracts are worth (in money terms) with foreign carriers so have a good idea how much money the company is making, yet they are still paid peanuts.

this is a good example of the worst aspect of socialism/communism - the guys at the top creaming off all the profits and throwing scraps to their staff. the sooner contracts, staff and bosses wages become more transparent, the better. then we should see a much fairer distribution of profit and the staff can see how profitable (or unprofitable) their business really is. That's one big advantage of a free market!!
