Is Srbia ready for EU ?
Civilian people are beaten to death.

THIS TIME MILOSEVIC IS NOT IN POWER !!!!!
(frankUSA, 30 September 2009 16:04)

Well mister if I was from US I would rather keep silent instead of preaching while your soldiers are killing off entiere villages 10 000 miles from their home.
Anyway hopefully serbs do not get into EU after so much injustice which happened to them they do not deserve to be a part of Europien Utopia. That club is rather for hypocrats so US would definitely meet the crietria but fortunately an ocean separates the two continents.

I am really curious about the unfortunate, sad 8 souls who gave Denis a poor comment. They either did not even bother to read what he wrote or disagree that we should live in a better world than what we do live in now.

I am sure that many comments are not read and bad or good grades are based on the name not context.

What a crazy comment.
It is the indiviudal's fault if he breaks the law regardless of his ethnicity.

As an albanian I agree with you 100%. This a matter of being human and civilized and not trying to stick it to each other. It can happen to every nation.

What happened in no way defines Serbia, nor any other nation. Yes we fight each other and maybe hate each other to death, we have our conflicts but we are not animals....

Let's all contribute to make our streets and nations a better place for each people.

Where I not necessarily agree with Denis is "maybe hate each other to death" or we should write "MAYBE" in capital letters because some do hate each other, some don't. What is true, in last 1300 or so years there were many fights, in particular in last 200 years.

You know, "eye for an eye" - and the world will be blind quickly.

If that is not exciting enough for you then go to Pristina and put a Serbian T-shirt on and see what happens to you.
Belgrade is very unsafe compared to these places.
(Peggy, 30 September 2009 03:47)

Well I wonder what would happend to people wearing an t-shirt with the albanian flag in the middle of Belgrade ? Just look what happend to the poor french guy and he diden't even wear an albanian t-shirt.

In Prishtina you at least can go aurond with every worlds flag aurond the city without nobody beats you to death. But I agree with you a serbian flag or t-shirt in prishtina would not be accepted at this time. But every other flag would be no problem.

It is not albanian fault that wearing a serbian t-shirt in Prishtina is not safe right now. Complain to your former president slobodan milsovic and the new goverment with Tadic and Jeremic to begin with.

Why do Albanians keep commenting about Kosovo and try to put evrything around it? Hooligan acts and politics are two very different topics. A few hooligans who have done this dont represent twenty million Serbs. Those who have done this brutal crime to our French visitor should face maximum sentence. Seems like Albanians just look for these stories to give their propaganda speeches about Kosovo and Serbs, sorry Albanians your propagandist machine doesn't seem to work on people who have a brain.

first of all: condolences and sympathy to those who lost their family-member and friend in this ugly crime.

as for these passionate serb-haters like kosovo-usa or other smart kids...

future tourists will come to Belgrade as usual.

what I am missing in that whole thing is information about whether this french individual was a hool himself who came to Serbia to hook up with serbian hools or whether he was a simple, peaceful soccoer-fan just being at the wrong place in the wrong time.

but one thing is quite clear: trying to make a political thing of this tragedy is so cheap... it actually displays only the mean character of those who write these hate-comments.

Good evening,

We might all have different opinions for differents reasons and am not different either, but respect should not be thrown in the garbage bin.

This is very sad. It's sad when you hear about these things anywhere. But to the foreign commentators, lets not be sanctimonious about this. Hate crime happens in the US, the UK, across Europe and across the world. This should not be used to beat up all the people of Serbia. It wasn't many years ago a Russian football fan was murdered in London because some English fans thought he was German.

The authorities in Serbia will deal with the cretin who killed this unfortunate Frenchman and will hopefully get on top of any violence in the city.

it is indeed tragic that the kid died after almost a 2 week struggle... some people however are blowing it way out of proportion... these (and worse) kinds of things happen all over the world regulary and often go unpunished... in this case there will be guilty parties, but it's important to let all facts come to light first before making judgements... when adrenalin kicks in, it's very easy to lose control. i'm sure the kid's attackers didn't intent to kill him and feel worse than any of us here now...

My condolences to the young mans family and friends. This is just horrible and it is something that continues daily throughout the world. As a teacher it is important that we educate our youth to tolerance and respect. Yes we can ask government's to do more, ask police to work more, but that is not the easiest solution. Respect is a foundation that begins at home and with yourself. As Confucius said of the 5 relationships most important is the parent/child relationship. If that goes well so will the rest. Family is so key to the foundations of well-balanced lives; without family and respect we have chaos.

Berkley,

Can't understand your question if you indeed live in Berkley. And if you are not "satisfied" with "glorious" Berkley or Oakland crime statistics, feel free to visit East Palo Alto which is close-by.

Our company is in Union City, which is an other "interesting" place, not far away from you.
How about Tijuana, MX which is world's busiest border crossing?

Cases like these would not be even reported in the newspapers - but for some mysterious reason people are not worried to visit Berkley, Oakland, Tijuana. And many residents of pretty well-off Palo Alto drive through University Ave. in East Palo Alto to their workplace at Sun Micro on the daily basis without worries.

As a foreigner living in Belgrade, and represending the Belgrade Foreign Visitors Club, I have to say that we are all shocked and rattled by the recent increase in violence taking place in Belgrade. So many foreigners have been attacked, and now this poor man has died as a result of a brutal attack.

Many of us do not feel safe going out alone on the streets of central belgrade anymore and I am sure that many of the 20,000 foreigners in Belgrade feel the same.

Dave, as I see you are not in any case contributing to this discussion; you go mad by Kosova-USA assertion on the monstrous assassination to a fan who happened to be French citizen in this case. We all know how you feel now; your anxiety rather derives by the fear that this act will draw consequences how in political and all other fields than you fell some condolence. The law needs to come down hard on these people now. This should also serve as a wake up call to the police in Belgrade. Instead of looking to make a quick buck they need to focus on removing crime from our streets. How many idle police does Belgrade have? I see them everywhere sitting down doing nothing while guarding diplomatic or government buildings. Surely they can be made more resourceful?

We are getting an increase in street violence and road deaths are unacceptably high. Time for the police to wisen up.

Having said that, I have never had a problem in Belgrade and still consider it a safe city but we need to keep it that way.

How many more foreigners, gays, atheists, hari krishnas, or human rights defenders have to be threatened, attacked, killed before Serbian public opinion, media and politicians say NO! The "patriot" movement in Serbia, like its counterpart in the US, is dangerous and anti-social and will spell the end of democratic society if nobody stands up and says no way, no how, not here.

All my condolences to the family of this man, but also courage and support to all targeted minorities or non-conformists in Serbia.

Sadly, like in "Tuzla Column" and "Bytyqi" cases burning in electric chair is not an option in Serbia. Hopefully, this case won't end like the first two. I am not really "for" the capital punishment, but in certain rare cases I hesitate.

To K-USA: Belgrade tourist scene won't feel much, but the soccer scene certainly will suffer. By the way: 2007 I was hit in the nose in Budapest for driving to slow for another driver's taste. Understand, it was not a planed attack but still not to tolerate.

Good evening,

I'm french and I would like to thank all the smart persons who wrote condoleances, I m with them to send my thoughts to his family. Tonight, I watched French television news and I was touched by an inscription on a wreath at Belgrade in honor of the Brice. The message was "forgive Srbja”.

I hoped I will see him pull through…I am so indescribably sad.

There are no words to ease the pain and loss, but these always touch my heart:

Do not stand at my grave and weep…
I am not there, I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow
I am the diamond glints on snow
I am the sunlight on ripened grain
I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you awake in the morning’s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush

I am the soft star-shine at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry…
I am not there. I did not die.

My condolences to family and friends of Brice Taton.

After this tragic event, it is hard even for B92 to defend the undefendable.
As a happy summer Belgrade´s visitor I was recommending my friends this great town for a visit. I was saddened to hear my friend´s comment on the recent violence on Belgrade´s streets that she was considering coming, but she is afraid to do so now. And that was before Bris died.

I am deeply, deeply disturbed of this news. I am an American living in Serbia and this has changed the way I see things here in reference to Serbia's Culture and mentality. Diversity, your nationality should not be an invitation to hurt someone. This is shocking to me. Overwhelming and I have no words but my prayer go out to the family. How horrific is this is. This animalistic behavior is uncivilized and despicable. I grieve with these families. What a shame, a wasted life. The Serbian Government and its court system should write new laws against such violence and there should be justice for the families. Though I have been here a short time I am aware of that this type of violence is present. Were is The humanity in all this? is not a life more important? I hope Serbia and its government steps up to the plate and provides new laws and justice for this family and other who have recently been affected by this type of brutality

2 protests have been organized in response to this violence, and I hope that attendance to both of them is very high to show the Serbian Government that this violence will not be tolerated.

Where I not necessarily agree with Denis is "maybe hate each other to death" or we should write "MAYBE" in capital letters because some do hate each other, some don't. What is true, in last 1300 or so years there were many fights, in particular in last 200 years.

Anyway this shows that the serbian goverment cannot provide safety for foreign visitors or their own people, let's say the ''gay community'' . It is wrelly a shame how serbian goverment manage this problem and say no to the pride parade because of some scum nationalistisc group are threatning with ''danger''. This showes the lack of Dacic & co to handle their criminals who apparently controls the street's of belgrade.

Ron,

The moderators are acting impartialy.

Kosova-USA stated that this will give Belgrade a bad name, and visitors will think twice about visiting. Whats wrong with that statement?!

It is very likely that that will be the short term reaction of any visitor thinking of visiting Belgrade.

If you don't like the sound of that, then you should direct your anger at the extremist groups in serbia carrying out these attacks, and the thugs that killed this innocent man for the simple reason that he was foreign.

Dave, as I see you are not in any case contributing to this discussion; you go mad by Kosova-USA assertion on the monstrous assassination to a fan who happened to be French citizen in this case. I’m saying this based on your behavior up to now, as far as victims of the other nationalities (less important) were concerned. If you understand and start feeling same about every human being, then I am 100 % sure that Albanian-Serbian rational discussions would commence in time.

2 protests have been organized in response to this violence, and I hope that attendance to both of them is very high to show the Serbian Government that this violence will not be tolerated.

Where I not necessarily agree with Denis is "maybe hate each other to death" or we should write "MAYBE" in capital letters because some do hate each other, some don't. What is true, in last 1300 or so years there were many fights, in particular in last 200 years.
